Couple of noob questions
-
Hi, couple of easy questions for you guys...
Im a web designer and my #1 keyword is web design huddersfield.
I own the domain huddersfield.com,
and i will have a page titled web design.
Now do i target the web design page or the index page as i don't want keyword cannibalization, but is it better for my index page to be the landing page?
#2 Considering that huddersfield.com is my domain should i set the title to:
web design huddersfield or just
web design?
please help.

I understand your concern.
If I had the domain for a similar size town in the USA where I lived I would give it a shot. In addition to directory pages I would have a lot of local content and it would grow over time.
-
Thanks,
Do you know of any popular/done-right directories , directories to me seem a little drab and uninteresting...
-
Nice domain.
Have you thought about turning the domain into a local directory with pages targeting the various types of service businesses, stores, churches, schools, sports, etc. in your area.
Your own page could be at huddersfield.com/web-design/
If you can do that and produce good rankings for the business niches then those store, service, church, sports, etc. pages would be a great launching pad for your clients.
You might also be able to sell advertising on the site. And, the site would be great advertising for your biz.

thanks for your input

I personally would do Web Design Huddersfield | Company Name
That way you are specifying that your company does web design in the Huddersfield area.
It helps build your brand.

Yes thats great thanks, ill optimize my other pages for responsive & wordpress design.
Any input on the second question please?

If that is your main service, I would probably optimize the homepage for Web Design Huddersfield. You can have as many additional pages on web design as you want throughout your site as long as the content is unique. For instance, Ecommerce Website Design Huddersfield or Responsive Web Design Huddersfield.
This approach will allow users that land on your homepage to then specify the type of web design they are looking for using your navigation. It also allows you to write a ton of unique content for those specific areas of web design on other pages - which should hopefully act as landing pages for visitors seeking a specific type of web design.
Does that makes sense?

One question about the domain choice.
Hi guys, I'm an Italian Web marketing and I'm studying SEO since some moths. First, sorry for my bad english.... 🙂 Second, the question: My Italian blog is going really GREAT in terms of popularity and incomes and know I want to bring it in english language with the help of a professional translator. The choice that I have to take is about the future domain of the english blog. My Italian blog has as url mynameandmysurname.net I don't really like to make the english blog appears like myitalianblogurl.net/english because I think it's a little bit confusing and not professional. I have also thought the idea to make a sub domain like blog.myitalianurl.net. What about the WPML plugin? Do you think it's a great choice? I don't like it because it's confusing and it affect my italian blog. Or maybe is it better to create a new branded blog with different domain? It can be an idea but I think that If I chose this way I will lose all my seo efforts of the last years 😄

To redirect or not to redirect...That is the question
We have old product data that is being updated (approx 30k sku's). Most of the old pages have been indexed and drive the majority of our online sales. But, the updated products have different titles, H1's, etc and have been re-formatted for the better in terms of usability. So, should we redirect thousands of pages to the new pages? Will Google be ok with that?...or should we reformat the current url's with the new data? And, if we reformat current url's with new data...the fear is that the on-page elements that the pages are being pick up for will get wiped out, (be it the H1 in some cases or the title or alt tag for another, etc) because it's simply too much to retain them during the import. A question on cached pages
Hi all. I have been testing different ways of writing the text on the homepage of the website www document-management-solutions co.uk because we are ranking very low for the keyword Document Management Software. I've recently learnt about pages being 'cached' and wanted to just clarify something. The last time the page was cached was on 26th March. I have made changed to the homepage since then and wanted to see how it has affected our ranking. Will I not be able to know if it has had a positive/negative effect until the next time our page is cached? Thanks

Scripts question
My question is whether search engines will crawl the page before or after scripts run on the page. I have a H1 that will be replaced with a canvas by jquery script. Will search engines see the H1 or the canvas?

Geographic targeting general question
Hi, I've been looking at some of the Google help centre pages for Geo-targeting and it says flat out if you use for example .co.uk and Geo-target in webmaster tools US then you will not rank as well as using .net, .com and a few others they list. So if you got a UK online business and want to expand into another country then staright away your in a negative situation if you want to rank in the SE for that location.

Title Keyword Question
I'm writing up keywords for new pages on a website. There are a number of variations on the way we can say what we're looking for, and I don't want to post the specific keywords but I'll give an example using fruits. Let's say I want to optimize for Granny Smith apples, McIntosh apples, Jonathan apples, etc. Could my title be Apples - Granny Smith, McIntosh, Jonathan and my page will come up when someone searchs "Granny Smith apples" or "McIntosh apples" etc. or do the words have to be repeated in order. Obviously I will also be repeating these in the description and on the page I'm optimizing. Thanks!

Duplicate Content Question
On the home page of my site I have a read more link that takes you to a different URL with basically the same content, just more of it. Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/ Read More Link on Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/deckmaintain.htm I think this may be affecting my seo. Any suggestions on what I should do about this? Should I add a canonical to the home page and/or on the other page? Both pages are indexed by google. Thanks for any help or tips.
