Is it risky to be on too many .edu link lists?
-
I recently heard someone say that if your site is on a lot of link lists (example "Useful Links" pages) this can hurt you.
How likely is a Google penalty if your site is listed on tons of .edu link lists?
-
Hey Charles,
A spammy link is a spammy link whether it comes from .edu sites or not. .Edu sites don't get any special considerations in the ways of spam. If the links make sense in context of the site that you are getting them from, then I wouldn't worry. However if you're getting a ton of list site links from pages that have nothing to do with your space at all, then I would worry about those especially if they are sitewides or on pages that have other clear indications of spam like adsense or too many ad blocks.

If your online business is being propped up by tons of spam links--I mean .edu link lists links---be aware that the crutch could be pulled out from under you at any time. The likelihood of it happening will grow over time. Time to get started on building some real brand equity.

Link building
Hello everyone, I am building links for an e-commerce site and I need to increase the value of the links we get by placing them on specific pages in order to pass more juice to inner pages. Which part of the website should I point the links to? Because there is no content section on the site what I can do is either link to the homepage (not an option) or link to inner pages such as category/subcategory/product pages. My doubt is that it wouldn't look natural to link to products pages from a piece of content or from a site where people go with the intention not to buy but to get information. Any opinions on this?

Why is this link from a .edu source not being counted?
The site in question is: http://Ellenensher.com We are wondering why a powerful edu link is not being counted in opensiteexplorer. Is it not being indexed? Or is it some other issue? It shows up in webmaster tools and is a PR 5 link. Let us know if you have any ideas on this issue! http://cba.lmu.edu/facultyresearch/meetthefaculty/ellenensherphd/ Thanks!

Link in the footer
we have a sponsored link in the footer of a website, and since that footer is displayed on each page of that site, it shows that we have thousands of links coming from that site. my question is : does Google consider this as spamming? and does it help us , harm us, or has no effect?

Is it worth it to link to sites that link to you in guest posts?
Suppose you published a guest post on a quality site and you link to a previous guest post you have written for another site (which links to you). In theory you could send link juice to the page that links to you for a second order effect. Has anyone seen results from this tactic?

Reciprocal Link Advice
My client site has a good one-way link from an authority site (in this case a member directory within the industry association). In order to use some data from the industry association on my client's site, the association has requested a link back to their site. Recognising that this will weaken the value of the one-way link, would it be make sense to no-follow the return link? But is there value in linking out to an authority site? What recommendations do you have for this situation? Thanks
