SEOmoz and Wordpress SEO plugin
-
I made a lot of changes with Wordpress SEO by Yoast before I signed up with SEOmoz.
But SEOmoz doesn't seem to see those changes. I am still being told I have multiple meta descriptions. I don't know why but SEOmoz is seeing the default meta description and not the one I wrote using the Yoast plugin.
How can I get SEOmoz to see those changes?
Edit: Google has not updated all the changes I made with Wordpress SEO.

Actually I have Thesis 1 so I edited my post. I just get confused because when I purchased it, it was called Thesis 2.0. I did think about upgrading to Thesis 2 and I already purchased that box from thesistut but I activated thesis 2 and yikes, it is really different and will be a lot of work to change.
-
Sure let us know. One thing I want to point out, is this answer was specifically for Thesis 1. A friendly admin just pointed out you have Thesis 2
We didn't hear of a specific workaround for Thesis 2.
I did just find this though: http://thesistut.com/2012/wordpress-seo-yoast-integrate-box-thesis-2/
I would give that a try if you need to. The comments and reviews looked pretty good.

Thanks, I will give it a try!

Hi there - I got a little help from Cyrus Chepard. He said exactly;
I use Thesis+Yoast on a couple of sites. Here's how to fix the dueling meta tag problem:
- On each post/page, make sure the Thesis box is checked that says "force search engines to pull a description based on the content of the page"
This should make the Thesis meta description tag go away, while leaving the Yoast tag in place The Yoast plugin has so much easy usability I wouldn't want to go without it.
Let us know if that does it - thanks!

Ahh right - this was my only worry. I've heard of this problem. I don't have much experience with thesis so let me see if someone else can help answer this thread as I'm sure the question is to come up again.
Thanks!

Ok so I looked at the source code of a live post and it looks like Thesis 1.0 and Wordpress SEO by Yoast are in conflict. They are both adding meta descriptions etc so I do see duplicate info. Any advice?
-
Thanks Dan. I am using the Thesis theme and I cannot find the header.php when I go to Appearance/Editor.
But yes every single report card mentions multiple meta descriptions as well as other "multiple" problems.
-
I'm pretty certain standard crawls in campaigns are once a week.
-
Hey There
Multiple meta descriptions sounds like perhaps one of them is hard coded right into your header.php file. Here's what you need to do;
Go to Appearance->Editor and click on header.php (right side). Look for a hard coded meta description in there.
This screenshot might help http://screencast.com/t/KmwHw4GEC9w
if you find one, that's likely your problem. You can comment it out and hit update file to see if that fixes it. If it fixes it, you will not see two in the source code.
If this all seems a bit tricky I'd recommend having someone who can help you take a quick look - or if you are able to share your URL or a screen shot of any sort that would hep us as well.

Ok but if I made the changes several days before the first crawl, why wouldn't they show up?
-
I believe that SEOmoz doesn't crawl every single day. It's like 10 - 15 days until the next crawl. Wait a week or two, and if the changes do not show, then there may be an issue.
-
I am a novice so please excuse me.
I have been using the plugin for a few weeks. But many changes were made before I even signed up for SEOmoz and my page has been crawled twice and they are still seeing old info.
My last two posts aren't even showing up on google yet so I can't check their meta descriptions but all my other posts do not show the new meta descriptions I wrote with the plugin.
What is the source code? Edit: Ok I figured out source code and I looked at a recent post and older post and did see my meta description there.
-
How long ago did you make the changes? You may just need to give the crawlers some time to go through your site again.
Did you double check to make sure that the live pages have the updated meta descriptions? Check the source code and make sure the new ones are showing, otherwise you probably still have an issue within Wordpress. Otherwise, just give the crawlers some time.

Does changing/shortening a url hurt SEO?
Hi all, I am in the process of making small optimization changes to my site. I noticed Moz identified quite a few URLs that could be shortened. I intend to shorten these URLs and create 301 redirects to ensure website users land on the right page. My question is, will this change in URL damage rankings and engagement(assuming the URL remains content relevant)? I have read in some places that when creating URL redirects for a change in domain, people saw a dip in rankings and engagement. I, however, am not intending to change the main domain of the site, but rather the URL slug. Any thoughts?

Duplicate Content with ?Page ID's in WordPress
Hi there, I'm trying to figure out the best way to solve a duplicate content problem that I have due to Page ID's that WordPress automatically assigns to pages. I know that in order for me to resolve this I have to use canonical urls but the problem for me is I can't figure out the URL structure. Moz is showing me thousands of duplicate content errors that are mostly related to Page IDs For example, this is how a page's url should look like on my site Moz is telling me there are 50 duplicate content errors for this page. The page ID for this page is 82 so the duplicate content errors appear as follows and so on. For 47 more pages. The problem repeats itself with other pages as well. My permalinks are set to "Post Name" so I know that's not an issue. What can I do to resolve this? How can I use canonical URLs to solve this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

WordPress - duplicate content
I'm using WordPress for my website. However, whenever I use the post section for news, I get a report back from SEOmoz saying that there's duplicate content. What it does is it posts them in the Category and Archive section. Does anyone know if Google sees this as duplicate content and if so how to stop it? Thanks

Breadcrumb position SEO impact
Hi all, Our UX designers are working on a new page design, and the breadcrumb position looks somewhat strange - it's almost in the middle of the page. The new page looks like this (the breadcrumb is below the head banner), but it's a showcase page that contains about 150 items. Each of them has a small thumbnail, title, category and short description. They've decided to use the head banner's place and have there all items, grouped in categories that visitors can browse. The breadcrumb menu is at 900 pixels from the top of the page In other words, you have the major part of this page content in front of the breadcrumb menu. Are there any SEO implications in such case? Should we use breadcrumbs on this page if they're not at the top? Thanks,
