Client wants to distribute web content to dealers - iFrame?

I have a client who sells a product through a network of nationwide dealers. He wants to provide update-able content to these dealers so they can create sections on their websites dedicated to the product. For ex., www.dealer.com/product_XYZ. The client is thinking he'd like to provide an iframe solution to the dealers, so he can independently update the content that appears on their sites.
I know iFrames are old, but are there any SEO concerns I should know about? Another option is to distribute content via HTML that has a rel=canonical command as part of the code, but then he loses the ability to centrally update all the distributed content.
Are there other solutions he should consider?

I think it really depends how much you want to invest in technology and how much controll you have over the dealer websites.
Wish I had a better answer for you or more data to go on. There's been a test or two over the years that Google follows links through iFrames, but so little research has been done in this area it's almost impossible to give solid advice.
Typically SEOs avoid any sort of iframe because it's really not the best way to code content on your own site, but this seems to be a different situation. If controlling the content is important, in my opinion I don't see a huge problem using frames, but it's something you'd want to keep your eye on. My gut tells me everything should be fine, but if Google suddenly sees 100's of new frames all pointing to the same content, this might start to look a little strange.
I agree that the cross domain rel=canonical would be a nightmare in regards to keeping things consistent, and likely hard to implement.
Another option would be to use something like XML feeds, but my guess is this might be more technical investment than is warranted.

If content is at the bottom of the page but the code is at the top, does Google know that the content is at the bottom?
I'm working on creating content for top category pages for an ecommerce site. I can put them under the left hand navigation bar, and that content would be near the top in the code. I can also put the content at the bottom center, where it would look nicer but be at the bottom of the code. What's the better approach? Thanks for reading!

Magento Multistore and Duplicate Content
Hey all, I am currently optimizing a Magento Multistore running with two store views (one per language). Now when I switch from one language to another the urls shows: mydomain.de/.../examplepage.html?___store=german&___from_store=english The same page can also be reached by just entering mydomain.de/.../examplepage.html The question is: Does Google consider this as Duplicate Content or it it nothing to worry about? Or should I just do a dynamic 301 redirect from the 1st version to the 2nd? I read about some hacks posted in diferent magento forums but as I am working for a customer I want to avoid hacks. Also setting "Add Store Code to Urls" didn't help.

Tips and duplicate content
Hello, we have a search site that offers tips to help with search/find. These tips are organized on the site in xml format with commas... of course the search parameters are duplicated in the xml so that we have a number of tips for each search parameter. For example if the parameter is "dining room" we might have 35 pieces of advice - all less than a tweet long. My question - will I be penalized for keyword stuffing - how can I avoid this?

Is there ever legitimate near duplicate content?
Hey guys, I’ve been reading the blogs and really appreciate all the great feedback. It’s nice to see how supportive this community is to each other. I’ve got a question about near duplicate content. I’ve read a bunch of great post regarding what is duplicate content and how to fix it. However, I’m looking at a scenario that is a little different from what I’ve read about. I’m not sure if we’d get penalized by Google or not. We are working with a group of small insurance agencies that have combined some of their back office work, and work together to sell the same products, but for the most part act as what they are, independent agencies. So we now have 25 different little companies, in 25 different cities spread across the southeast, all selling the same thing. Each agency has their own URL, each has their own Google local places registration, their own backlinks to their local chambers, own contact us and staff pages, etc. However, we have created landing pages for each product line, with the hopes of attracting local searches. While we vary each landing page a little per agency (the auto insurance page in CA talks about driving down the 101, while the auto insurance page in Georgia says welcome to the peach state) probably 75% of the land page content is the same from agency to agency. There is only so much you can say about specific lines of insurance. They have slightly different titles, slightly different headers, but the bulk of the page is the same. So here is the question, will Google hit us with a penalty for having similar content across the 25 sites? If so, how do you handle this? We are trying to write create content, and unique content, but at the end of the day auto insurance in one city is pretty much the same as in another city. Thanks in advance for your help.
