KW density and idiot clients. HELP!!!!
-
I have a client who insists on using KW1 @ a 3% rate in a 600-word piece, aka 18 references to KW1 in a two page piece. I upped the KW1 count to 18, but in doing so, added 100 words of text, getting the piece to 700 words. Now the client wants 21 KW1 appearances to maintain that 3% density. If I add 3 more KW1's, I'll up the word count again, requiring more KW1's to hit the 3% mark. Any suggestions for solving the never-ending problem of KW density and idiot clients? Thanks in advance. Paul

Thanks for the assist, all.
@Matt: If the client is an idiot, someone should tell her.
Though you're right. I shouldn't point this particular client to this thread.
I love this site. Very generous mozzers.
Best,
Paul

Show them this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk4qgQdp2UA
If you mention it once, good. If you mention it twice, ok, you're about this. If you mention it 3 times, ok ... getting less helpful. By the 4th, 5th, 18th time you mention it, it's not really helping. And if you overdo it it does hurt.
I've found (and YMMV) that keyword consistency is more important than density. If my article is about flowers and I mention roses and daisies, sunflowers and tulips - that's more important than saying "I like flowers because flowers smell nice and flowers are pretty flowers and you can give your wife flowers on Valentine's Day, a flowers holiday."
Also as far as consistency, use the main keywords in the title & description but don't spam them in there 3 or 4 times. Then use those keywords and the related set of keywords (types of flowers, potting, plant, garden) on the page. That's more helpful, I think.
(I'd suggest you could show your client a forum topic where a bunch of professional SEOs say keyword density doesn't matter but I'd really avoid using the word "idiot" when talking about the people who pay you if you want them to continue to do so.)

Show them high-ranking content for the KW's and I can almost guarantee that it doesn't follow the criteria that your client is suggesting.

Show him blog posts and white board Fridays that say to not be crazy about kw density.

Was my site hit by Panda or Penguin? Looking for diagnosis help
My URL is: www.westlakedermatology.com Hello Mozers, I'm looking for some help or guidance as to why my site fell off the "rankings cliff" on 9/5. In the forums I hear a lot of others with a similar issue, and some speculation it is due to a Panda refresh. However, looking at our site we have unique content with each page having over 300-400 words (so it's not light or duplicate content). We get a lot of leads that verbally tell us our content helped answer some of their questions so I'm pretty confident its good for users. Can anyone see an issue with the content on our site? In terms of Penguin, I think our backlink profile is clean, our physicians do take part in providing content to various high quality and relevant websites/blogs. But we do not buy links or do anything in violation of Google's guidelines. In terms of brand, we are the biggest dermatology and plastic surgery group in the Austin area. So any brand implications to search should be on our side. Just looking for some sort of guidance or help, any suggestions would be great! Thanks,

Help with htaccess
I just setup a WP install in a subfolder: domain.com/development/ However, there is an existing htaccess file in the root which contains the following: RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z_0-9-]+)$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA]
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | SCW
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z_0-9-]+)/$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA]
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z_0-9-]+)/([a-z]+)$ /index.php?page=$1&comp=$2 [QSA]
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z_0-9-]+)/([a-z]+)/$ /index.php?page=$1&comp=$2 [QSA] I need to leave the rules as-is due to the nature of CMS (not WP) under the root domain. Is it possible to include an exception or condition which allows URL requests containing /development/ to resolve to that folder? I tried to add: RewriteRule ^development/([A-Za-z_0-9-]+)$ /development/index.php?page=$1 [QSA] but this seems to send it in a loop back to the root. Thanks!!!0 -
I need help with a local tax lawyer website that just doesn't get traffic
We've been doing a little bit of linkbuilding and content development for this site on and off for the last year or so: http://www.olsonirstaxattorney.com/ We're trying to rank her for "Denver tax attorney," but in all honesty we just don't have the budget to hit the first page for that term, so it doesn't surprise me that we're invisible. However, my problem is that the site gets almost NO traffic. There are days when Google doesn't send more than 2-3 visitors (yikes). Every site in our portfolio gets at least a few hundred visits a month, so I'm thinking that I'm missing something really obvious on this site. I would expect that we'd get some type of traffic considering the amount of content the site has, (about 100 pages of unique content, give or take) and some of the basic linkbuilding work we've done (we just got an infographic published to a few decent quality sites, including a nice placement on the lawyer.com blog). However, we're still getting almost no organic traffic from Google or Bing. Any ideas as to why? GWMT doesn't show a penalty, doesn't identify any site health issues, etc. Other notes: Unbeknownst to me, the client had cut and pasted IRS newsletters as blog posts. I found out about all this duplicate content last November, and we added "noindex" tags to all of those duplicated pages. The site has never been carefully maintained by the client. She's very busy, so adding content has never been a priority, and we don't have a lot of budget to justify blogging on a regular basis AND doing some of the linkbuilding work we've done (guest posts and infographic).

Help with domain configuration in international markets
We have just taken on a new client who’s core business is based in the UK. They are currently developing a market in Australia and are hoping to develop future markets over the next few years. The website is currently hosted in the UK, under a .co.uk domain, we are redeveloping the website and are wondering if we should move to the .com as the company is now catering to an international market. I was also wondering what the best way of establishing a presence in Australia, using the main website, rather than creating a new one. Thanks Fraser
