Is it possible not to be in the first 20 or 30 positions in the SERPs after executing onpage SEO actions (keyword optimization, metatags, ....) even for keywords for which there's not "too much" competition? Is there a way of visualize the pages indexed by the google bot? (the pages especifically, not the number) in order to discard indexing problems?

Yes that is definitely possible especially if the on-page SEO has been done recently. It takes time for Google to re-crawl the pages and credit your site. Don't forget that SEO doesn't stop with on-page SEO. Off page is just as important.

Yes. In your browser use the site: to search for your site.
ie. site:www.example.com (make sure there is no spaces between the site: and the website url)

yes, it's possible. it would really depend on what keywords you are ranking for and the relative strengths of the sites listing on that keyword compared to your site.
keep in mind, on-page SEO is only part of the larger picture. building links will make a difference.
as to indexing, you can view what google is indexing/caching by mousing over a search results in the SERP page, and clicking "view cached result". within the cached page there is also usually a text result link as well.

Google Search Console issue: "This is how Googlebot saw the page" showing part of page being covered up
Hi everyone! Kind of a weird question here but I'll ask and see if anyone else has seen this: In Google Search Console when I do a fetch and render request for a specific site, the fetch and blocked resources all look A-OK. However, in the render, there's a large grey box (background of navigation) that covers up a significant amount of what is on the page. Attaching a screenshot. You can see the text start peeking out below (had to trim for confidentiality reasons). But behind that block of grey IS text. And text that apparently in the fetch part Googlebot does see and can crawl. My question: is this an issue? Should I be concerned about this visual look? Or no? Never have experienced an issue like that. I will say - trying to make a play at a featured snippet and can't seem to have Google display this page's information, despite it being the first result and the query showing a featured snippet of a result #4. I know that it isn't guaranteed for the #1 result but wonder if this has anything to do with why it isn't showing one. VmIqgFB.png

Duplicate pages
Hi I have recently signed up to Moz Pro and the first crawl report on my wordpress site has brought up some duplicate content issues. I don't know what to do with this data! The original page : http://www.dwliverpoolphotography.co.uk/blog/ and the duplicate content page : http://www.dwliverpoolphotography.co.uk/author/david/ If anyone can point me to a resource or explain what I need to do thanks! Image heavy pages: Google friendly fonts / seo text etc
Hi Google friendly fonts - are these in wide use now, do they work ? If you have image heavy site do they work just as well as using what we used to call 'seo text'. I have heard that 'seo text' not really used anymore or at least rebranded to 'helpful, informative paragraph or two of body copy about the page with a couple of the pages target keywords in it'. I take it if fonts in image not google friendly then should still ask dev for some space to fit in a para or two of some proper body copy, with couple of pages target kw in it ? Also looking like if i succeed in this request will be below the fold, how hard should i fight for it to be above the fold ? cheers dan

How is this page ranking?
Hi. A client of mine is being outranked by a competitor whose landing page does not include the keyword within their page content AT ALL. Nor does their URL. Nor do any image alts. And their page title features the keyword in the middle of it, not at the start. Their link profile is not great with directories and the like. They are not socially active.. I am confused! I thought content on a page absolutely had to include the keyword to get ranked for it. Here's the page: www.springsoft.ie, keyword is "water softeners" Any thoughts I would appreciate. Locating Duplicate Pages
Hi, Our website consists of approximately 15,000 pages however according to our Google Webmaster Tools account Google has around 26,000 pages for us in their index. I have run through half a dozen sitemap generators and they all only discover the 15,000 pages that we know about. I have also thoroughly gone through the site to attempt to find any sections where we might be inadvertently generating duplicate pages without success. It has been over six months since we did any structural changes (at which point we did 301's to the new locations) and so I'd like to think that the majority of these old pages have been removed from the Google Index. Additionally, the number of pages in the index doesn't appear to be going down by any discernable factor week on week. I'm certain it's nothing to worry about however for my own peace of mind I'd like to just confirm that the additional 11,000 pages are just old results that will eventually disappear from the index and that we're not generating any duplicate content. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to download a list of the 26,000 pages that Google has indexed so that I can compare it against our sitemap. Obviously I know about site:domain.com however this only returned the first 1,000 results which all checkout fine. I was wondering if anybody knew of any methods or tools that we could use to attempt to identify these 11,000 extra pages in the Google index so we can confirm that they're just old pages which haven’t fallen out of the index yet and that they’re not going to be causing us a problem? Two points of view on optimizing our search pages. What should we go with?
So we're in the process of going back and forth with our designer about optimizing our search results, which also doubles as a landing page for visitors searching with keywords like "Meeting Rooms Seattle" and "Seattle Meeting Spaces" We're on the front page in the SERPs, but still have a way to go. This is our current page: http://www.evenues.com/Meeting-Spaces/Seattle/Washington And this is something we've proposed for our designer to work with: http://imgur.com/JU1zg There search page text and links in the top left corner were to be placed for onsite SEO purposes ie we have no real text/content on the page for relevancy. We're currently in the process of writing the copy for each city on the search pages. Our designer made this argument: After giving it some thought I came to the conclusion that we may want to take a step back, and focus on the overall goal of this exercise. From what I have gathered, you would like to generate more click-throus and improve SEO, right? In my opinion, adding all of the provided copy and the link farm to the search results page would not necessarily help that. In fact, I think it would actually push the actual results way down. The content you provided me is more suited for a landing page, not a search results page (that is taking into consideration that you want similar content for other locations). Redfin has done a ton of great SEO work on their site. Using them as an example, if you go to Redfin.com, you will find tiny links in the footer that say "home for sale in seattle" etc. If you click on those, it puts you on a page like this: http://www.redfin.com/cities/1/seattle?src=homepage and then from there you can click to a neighborhood page like this: http://www.redfin.com/city/1387/WA/Bellevue. I would recommend that we create a set of location pages with the content the client is asking for, that are specifically optimized for SEO, and provide links in the footer of the site to get to those pages. Then the links on the new landing pages would land the user on the search results page. By keeping two different pages for two different purposes separate would help keep content more organized and help user find specific info they are looking for. As a quick fix we could put one line of text under the H1 text on search results as well, maybe with a strong tag. By doing that we will be able to keep the page looking clean and easy to navigate through. Anyways, that's just my two cents. Any ideas/input on this?

Blog page outranks static page for KW -- why?
Blog page ranks 10 in Google, while the static page is on page 7. What makes it more interesting is that the blog page scores an "F" with the Term Target tool while the static page scores an "A". Static page has more inbound links and a mR/mT of 3.89/ 4.54 vs. 3.71/ 4.14 for the blog page. Any ideas on how to approach this one?
