Term steady, then jumps up for a few hours then back, why?
-
Hi,
So I have a page which is steady for months, sits at say position 15 then every few weeks it will jump to position 7 for maybe 24 hours then back to position 15 again.
I assume it's trying to work out if we should be higher up the results by putting us in a higher position and monitoring the CTR and other metrics.
Anyone got any other ideas? And when it does this can you do anything to signal this position is better? Maybe when it moves, ramp up social activity, shares etc.
Thanks.

Is absolutely normal Google bounce around a little bit especially in higher numbers. If you are anywhere in and above five you should expect fluctuation and it's the algorithm is so so complex that if you updated your site one day Google bot might not indexed it or it could've indexed it and seeing something that didn't like. Remember your competitors for those keywords are also being judged. So it's trying to figure out exactly where you fitting. And I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just keep holding quality content and you'll be alright the one thing that you can do and it's the right thing to do so I hope that answers your question and expect fluctuation from Google from time to time.
When Google gives you a break that you stay at a rank for a while I think it is uncommon for somebody that is not watching to actually see the fluctuations because when you login to your Google account Gmail or something like that you see a different ranking than what I would see maybe you'll see a higher ranking and I will because you're searching your on-site more often than I am us Google will tailor the results to you if you are working. When you go on SEOmoz and see the real Rankins then it can be frustrating. However fluctuation is normal part of the game and it's something to be expected rankings also highly dependent on geographic placement however if you keep creating what Google wants witches he could user experience or the best they will keep cranking you hire and all you may fluctuate always feel fluctuate less and less and hopefully be in first place. I hope I've been of help sincerely, Thomas

My competitor is ranking above me for a branded search in Google. How can I come back on top?
I work with an organization that is ranking #2 for a branded search term, second to a competitor. They have zero similarity between their names, and we've worked with them to up their SEO game around all major areas (one drawback: SquareSpace is killing their site speed). Their DA is 59, the competitor's DA is 77. What are some smart, specific ways that we can help our client come back out on top?

Only ranking well when "UK" is added to search term
Hi, what does it mean when a lot of our keyword phrases rank only when "UK" is typed in the search term? For example:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Solid_Web
"boxes" (not in top 50)
"boxes UK" (38) "big storage boxes" (45)
"big storage boxes UK" (33) We haven't attempted to SEO the pages for search terms with "UK" appended to them. Our domain is a co.uk domain. So, what reasons could there be that are we ranking in such a way?0 -
Penguin 3.0 has rolled within the last hour - who has been affected
Hi I am hearing that Penguin 3.0 has rolled out within the last hour or so, can anyone confirm this and secondly has anyone been affected? My rankings don't seen to have changed, neither has my main competitors but it might just be too early to tell. Thanks Andy

Steady decline since Panda 4.0 but struggling to identify cause (and solution!).
Hello I work as an in-house SEO (previously worked for an agency) for the website naturalworldsafaris.com. After a strong start to the year we were seeing really good growth but since Panda 4.0 was released we have been steadily declining. Our site has, I believe, good, unique content and is largely free of technical issues. I'm struggling to identify what exactly is the issue for the drop. We've had several key terms drop from the top half of page 1 to page 2 of the SERPS, such as the term "Borneo Holiday" (on a Google UK search). I don't believe we have any duplicate content issues. We've had a few external SEO specialists take a look and none have come up with anything new. Site speed has been flagged as a concern but when compared to our competitors in the SERPS we are consistently one of the faster sites so while we are looking to improve this, I don't feel it can be the only issue. Any suggestions as to what else we should be investigating next would be much appreciated.

Not sure what its called - a jump page?
One of my competitors has something implemented on his website where if you click a link thats internal, it tries to load the page and then directs you to the affiliate website. I think its to help his bounce rate because it loads a secondary page, waits a few seconds, then redirects. Is this allowed? If it is, I think I should implement it. Any information would be helpful. He is running wordpress

Am I jumping the gun? Second guessing myself...
Hi, I'm pretty new to SEO and I'm trying to figure out if I'm on the right track. Mid May I rebuilt a website completely from .asp to .php, the original site was completely makeshift and had some really un-pretty code in it, not to mention the design was completely out of date. Since I rebuilt it the search has slowed and then picked up a little now it's slowed to almost a stop. I know it hasn't been that long, but am I doing something wrong? I know the think i'm missing most is link-building which we are working on now, but is there something else I'm missing to make the search drop like this this past week? I feel like it's soo much better then before but I'm not seeing any results and now I'm really second guessing myself? Any suggestions? please help! the site: http://www.moondoggieinc.com THANKS! Can your site be penalized for changing the url structure and if so how long till you get back?
I'm doing well on yahoo and bing and the only reason I can think of for why I'm not showing on Google is because I changed the url structure a couple of months ago. I have solid on and off page done for this site.
