Unused url 'A' contains frameset - can it damage the other site B?
-
Client has an old unused site 'A' which I've discovered during my backlink research. It contains this source code below which frames the client's 'proper' site B inside the old unused url A in the browser address.
Quick question - will google penalise the website B which is the one I'm optimising? Should the client be using a redirect instead?
<frameset <span class="webkit-html-attribute-name">border='0' frameborder='0' framespacing='0'></frameset <span>
<frame src="http: www.clientwebsite.co.ukb" frameborder="0" noresize="noresize" scrolling="yes"></frame src="http:>
Please go to http://www.clientwebsite.co.ukB

Thanks,
Lu.

Thanks - I'm hoping more people will agree with you on this one. As well as confusing humans, surely Google must be suspicious too. Like you say, I would 301 them too, and my Dev also agrees, but would be nice to hear it from the wider SEO community.

I'm curious to hear what you find out about this one. I'm not an authority on this but it sure doesn't seem very clean. I would want to take site A and 301 all the old to the new and get rid of this structure completely. I'm sure you have already considered that. When I talk to people I always tell them we are trying to be the least imperfect. Having this frameset A certainly doesn't seem like the least imperfect approach in most competitive spaces. Good luck!

Error in how URLs were set up, how can it be fixed?
Hi, I managed a website port to a WP responsive deisgn for a client, see http://chicagotelephony.com. Unfortunately, he wanted me to work with a graphic designer rather than a web geek, so the resulting website has messed up URLS, i.e. index.php is smack in the middle of almost all the pages. I know that is all wrong, but I also realized that she was not fluent in the way the Genesis framework was set up or how the particular template I selected, operated. So I just wanted to get it out there.... and now it is live, but has all these errors. Do I have to do 301 redirects? Is there a setting or a button inside of the WP template that would put correct slugs but get rid of the index.pho within the URL? For example, http://chicagotelephony.com/index.php/cloud-based-solutions/ and http://chicagotelephony.com/index.php/var-network-value-added-reseller/ should be chicagotelephony.com/cloud-based-solutions/ and chicagotelephony.com/var-netowrk-value-added-reselle/ and so forth.

Can the Hosting location of image files have a negative effect if on the developers own media server rather than on client site server ?
Hi Can the Hosting location of image files have a negative effect if on the developers own media server as opposed to on the actual websites server ? In the case i'm looking at the image files are hosted on a totally separate server (a media subdomain of the developers site server) from the subject sites dedicated server. Will engines still attribute the properties of files hosted in this manner to the main website (such as file name or should they really be on the subject sites server own media folder ? Cheers Dan

Why Can't I Get on Google?
I've employed many of the suggestions of SEOMoz and getting a Grade "A" on a particular keyword. I'm now #4 on Yahoo and Bing. However, my site hasn't cracked the top 50 in Google. Why? I see a similar pattern with other keywords, many on yahoo and bing but only a few of my subpages get #45-48 on Google. Any ideas? http://www.gospelebooks.net

What tool can i use to get the true speed of my site
hi, i am trying to get the true speed of my site. i want to know how fast www.in2town.co.uk is but the tools that i am using are giving me different readings. http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/DkHoNWmZh/www.in2town.co.uk says the speed is 1.03s http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2town.co.uk/i4EMDk34 says my speed is 2.25s and http://www.vertain.com/m.q?req=cstr&reqid=dAv79lt8 says it is 4.36s so as you can see i am confused. How to extract URLs from a site (without bringing the server down!)
Hi everybody. One of my clients is migrating to a new ecommerce platform, and we need to get a list of urls from the existing site to start mapping out the 301 redirects. Usually, I'd use a tool like Xenu or Integrity to crawl and output a list. However, the database and server setup is so bad that it can't handle the requests from these tools and it sends the site down. This, unsurprisingly, is one of the reasons for the migration. Does anybody know of a way to get a full list of urls without having to make a bunch of http requests which will kill the site? Any advice would be much appreciated!

After entire site is noindex'd, how long to recover?
A programmers 'accidentally' put "name="robots" content="noindex" />" into every single page of one of my sites (articles, landing pages, home page etc). This happened on Monday, and we just noticed today. Ugh... We've fixed the issue; how long will it take to get reindexed? Will we instantly retain our same positions for keywords? Any tips?

Grr . . . Just can't seem to get there
mrswitch.com.au is one site that we are consistantly struggling with . . . It has a page rank of 3 which beats most of the competitors, but when it comes to Google AU searches such as Sydney Electrician and Electrician Sydney etc, we just can't seem to get there and the rankings keep dropping. We backlink and update the pages on a regular basis Any ideas? - Could it be the custom CMS system?
