Blogging on Drupal Blogs. White Hat or ?
-
Recently, we noticed a website in our site rise higher in SERP shortly after launching. The key strategy they are using is to Blog on High PR Drupal Blogs, which allow you to create profile and write articles.
What does the community here think of such tactic. Is it a grey area, or considered a White Hat technique?

You're asking if, independent of content, can the a CMS, such as Drupal ( or Joomla or Wordpress, etc) help your rankings, is that right?
The answer to that would be no. A CMS can hurt your SEO and it can make SEO easier or more difficult but which CMS is used is not a search engine ranking factor.

Thanks Chris.
In terms of their tactics, they use article spinning, which we all know will not work in long run.
The one question is around the type of Drupal sites. Lot of these are from non-English sites, covering cooking, imperialism etc etc. whereas the links are to an online coupon site, and seems irrelevant. I would think that the domain/type of blog would play a role in passing PageRank. Further, they have thousands of links (using Scrapebox) I believe, as they have single user create these links. Source of this information is Ahrefs (and Open Site Explorer) data. There could well be other things that help them, and we dont see it.
My biggest question is does posting high quality content to High PR Drupal blog help.
Thanks again for your valuable inputs

Potter,
There' nothing inherently wrong with that and ypically, you wouldn't consider the site's platform to play a part in a site's ranking ability.
Writing good quality articles and getting them posted individually on other blogs is not considered black hat. Done correctly, this is high-quality marketing effort that can build brand recognition and promote social sharing.
The other side of the coin would be writing low-quality articles and posting them to article marketing sites in the hopes that they'll be distributed to hundreds of other sites. Whether that this tactic is black hat or not may be open to interpretation, but as an effective SEO strategy, it's not something you want to bank on and it could leave you open to a google penalty in the future.
The third side of the coin would be creating empty profiles on forum-type sites just to get a link from the profile to your site. This can often be done on a large scale by low-end link builders, there aren't usually articles involved, and the links back to the site usually have very targeted anchor text. This would be considered a black hat effort and they stand a chance of getting knocked out of the search results for it, at some point in the future.
There may be other things that are helping that site rank better than yours other than what you mentioned. Just as likely, there are things that you should be doing to help yourself that you're not doing. If the other guy is just doing the second and/or third things mentioned above and their site is out performing yours, then you need to get to work doing some real marketing and yours will easily reclaim its position.

Buying a blog that already has links and authority
Hello, I hope all are well and keeping safe. I am about to launch a brand new website and am looking to get a slight boost of links to get started. I looked on Fiverr, but realise that this may not be the best option. I have found a blog for sale that matches with a section of my niche. SO have a couple of questions: 1. Is it still worth buying blogs and doing a 301? 2. If yes, would it still work if i 301 these to a category of my main blog? 3. According the moz tool, it has a spam score of 2%, I am attaching an image of the spam score from moz. I am a bit lost and would appreciate any feedback on best practice or if anyone has tried something similar. Many thanks Shehzad O92dqn7

I have 100+ Landing Pages I use for PPC... Does Google see this as a blog farm?
I am currently using about 50-100 domains for geotargeted landing pages for my PPC campaigns. All these pages basically have the same content, I believe are hosted on a single unique ip address and all have links back to my main url. I am not using these pages for SEO at all, as I know they will never achieve any significant SEO value. They are simply designed to generate a higher conversion rate for my PPC campaigns, because they are state and city domains. My question is, does google see this as a blog/link farm, and if so, what should I do about it? I don't want to lose any potential rankings they may be giving my site, if any at all, but if they are hurting my main urls SEO performance, then I want to know what I should do about it. any advice would be much appreciated!

Disappearing Links Black Hat ?
I have seen reports of Black hat spamming with dodgy links but we have another issue with a clients site. The site had a small number of solid following links about 60 which had been in place for years and in the past few weeks all but those directly under their control have ceased to link. At the same time a very aggressive competitor has entered their market which is owned by the officers of an SEO company. Could it be that they have somehow disavowed the links to the site to damage it how do we find out? there are now just 10 following links?

Black hat : raising CTR to have better rank in Google
We all know that Google uses click-through-rate (CTR) as one of it is ranking factor. I came up with an idea in my mind. I would like to see if someone saw this idea before or tried it. If you search in Google for the term "SEO" for example. You will see the moz.com website in rank 3. And if you checked the source code you will see that result 3 is linking to this url: https://www.google.com.sa/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDMQFjAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmoz.com%2Fbeginners-guide-to-seo&ei=F-pPVaDZBoSp7Abo_IDYAg&usg=AFQjCNEwiTCgNNNWInUJNibqiJCnlqcYtw That url will redirect you to seomoz.com Ok, what if we use linkbucks.com or any other cheap targeted traffic network and have a campaign that sends traffic to the url that I show you. Will that count as traffic from Google so it will increase the CTR from Google?

Competitor is using a blog network - worth reporting?
Hey guys, Today I checked the backlink profile of a competitor who is #1 in Google Australia for a highly competitive keyword. To my surprise though, every single link (except a few directory link) seems to be from a private blog network. It's a business selling advertisment products, yet somehow seems to have links on blog from website that sell pc repair services, sleepwear, bali villas rentals, etc.. In this case, would filing a spam report in google WMT be beneficial? It's not like they advertise that they sell links (nor are the websites the links are on), but it is quite clear that something dodgy is going on. Thanks

Problems with link spam from spam blogs to competitor sites
A competitor of ours is having a great deal of success with links from spam blogs (such as: publicexperience.com or sexylizard.org) it is proving to be a nightmare. Google does not detect these (the competitor has been doing well now for over a year) and my boss is starting to think if you can’t beat them, join them. Frankly, he is right – we have built some great links but it is nigh on impossible to beat 400+ highly targeted spam links in a niche market. My question is, has anyone had success in getting this sort of stuff brought to the attention of Google and banned (I actually listed them all in a message in webmaster tools and sent them over to Google over a year ago!). This is frustrating, I do not want to join in this kind of rubbish but it is hard to put a convincing argument against it when our competitor has used the technique successfully for over a year without any penalty. Ideas? Thoughts? All help appreciated

Will the links coming from an article in certain BLOG / NEWS SITE become a GOOD BackLink?
Such as, if i wrote a ymoz, and suddenly the articles is accepted, will the link to our site coming out of that Article Post increased our SEO Standing? Another example would be http://active.tutsplus.com , yesterday i have successfully pitched a tutorial idea, and they told me to write it so that they can published it , and they also promised that i will be able to put my site link (dofollow) ... But will these link be a Good BackLink that will increase our site's SEO Standing? The last one is exactly the same link , but this time coming from a News Site , such as http://teknologi.kompasiana.com/internet/2011/06/09/website-full-flash-dengan-inovasi-hebat-karya-indonesia/ , in this article (kompasiana is a very wellknown site news in Indonesia, in fact KOMPAS is the biggest newspaper firm in Indonesia) , our site is being featured , there is a link coming out of that article (DOFOLLOW), but will that link make our site much more SEO Friendly? Again please enlighten me 🙂
