what is cross domain?
can any one explain in simple language ?
-
I imagine you were looking for the answer posted by EEE3 regarding Google Analytics, but just wanted to mention that term is also common on the more technical side of web development, relating to both Flash & Javascript, and I imagine some other languages.
Moreover, it refers to situations where a program on a site, or in your browser (javascript) is trying to communicate with and access data from another website / domain name.
For instance, if you have a flash program on your website that accesses data (such as photos) from another website, the website hosting the actual data may need to add your website to their crossdomain.xml file.

Are referring to cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics?
If yes, in the most basic sense, it's a way for you to share the same Analytics tracking code with multiple domains, subdomains, etc.
I'm a visitor on your website www.ilovepeanuts.com. Your website sells peanut brittle. It just so happens I love peanut brittle, so I decide to buy some from your website.
The only problem is, when I get to your shopping cart, it resides on store.ilovepeanuts.com. If you don't enable cross domain tracking and use the same tracking code on both www.ilovepeanuts.com AND store.ilovepeanuts.com, you lose valuable data about my user experience on store.ilovepeanuts.com
Cross domain tracking allows you to preserve the same visitor data between your website and your store website.
Hope that's a simple enough explanation.

Merging Domains
Hi, Everyone, My company is currently working with a client that has multiple websites and is interested in merging them into one. One is a primary corporate site, the other is a site for a single line of products. They obviously want to merge the product site into the corporate site. The interesting thing is that the product site outperforms the corporate site. It has the highest traffic, and it has far more links/linking domains, a higher domain authority (although only by two points), and much more social activity. However, their reasons for wanting to merge the two are completely valid - less management, URL would match print collateral, etc. They're asking our opinion on whether or not to move forward with the merger. I'm leaning toward no simply because of the fact that the site they want to merge is outperforming the other. I'm curious, though, to get some other opinions on this. Would a merger be worth the work in this case? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Domain Structure - without www.
I'm working on a new project and we would prefer to not use the www. - for name/branding reasons. Are there any SEO ramifications from setting the domain without the www and using 301 redirects for all home page extensions to forward to -> domain.com(without the www)? Furthermore, we will be hosting many profiles on this site and would like to structure them for optimal SEO. Would there be an issue with using sub domains - user.domain.com, or would sub directories be more optimal? Thank you in advance!

Blogspot domains - giving me a manual action
So some agency did horrendous article submissions on mass in 08/09. Since I have been tidying this up by manually getting the domains removed in our back-link profile. Some however i just cannot get rid of. Recent penguin update obviously penalised me for this, so i disavowed the rest i could not remove and did a reconsideration request. The reply from Google was still that it violates guidelines and it used 3 blogspot domains (which no crawler i used had previously found) as examples. Now there is NOONE at Google to contact about this and the sites are abandoned, so they just sit there doing damage. I will ofcourse add these to the disavow but can i disavow the whole of blogspot.com ? What if all are in the disavow but they still use it against us in the reconsideration request and i cannot remove them as noone to contact at Google? Really appreciate the help, thanks, 2 years of hell tidying up bad agency work!

What should the combined domain rank of 2 sites?
We have just combined 2 sites by redirecting a site with a domain ranking of 35 to a site with a domain ranking of 27 (this is because the we want to use the address with a ranking of 27) After a week I now have 1 domain with a ranking of 26?? So my questions are; Should the ranking have increased already? What should I expect the ranking to increase to if at all? Is there something I could have done wrong when transferring? Thanks

Cross domain canonical, pros, cons, and link popularity?
We have a client who has two well trusted web properties, their insurance site where they sell insurance offerings, and a state specific blog they own where they promote healthy living. They want to improve their traffic/rankings/etc to the main site but they want to keep their blog where its at for PR (it already has a great following). So my quesiton is, if we do set up a secondary blog on the main site and use canonical tags on the more trusted external blog to link to the main site. Will that pass on the link popularity their external blog gets along with all the benefits of the fresh content, etc? I've never actually seen anyone do this yet, keen to try it but not with a client.

Moving content between two separate domains...
Hello I am looking for advice regarding moving content from one site to another. We have two websites: Site 1: E-commerce site, with content weaved in throughout the visitor journey.
Technical SEO | | DJR1981
Site 2: Blog-style site, used to archive magazine (which we own) articles online. Both sites exist on completely separate domains. Over time, Site 2 has received a lot less attention due to a change in our business objectives. As a result of this, this site is not as up-to-date as it could be and we're now starting to think about winding the brand down. However, some of the content (mostly feature-pieces, reviews etc) on Site 2 is really good and it would be a shame to just see such high quality stuff disappear into the ether. Ideally, we would like migrate some of the content on Site 2 to Site 1. The reasons for this are mostly to improve things from a visitor perspective, but also to gain any positive SEO points from adding such pieces to our main domain. I've had a look through and a lot of the articles from Site 2 are indexed. Is it going to be a case of selecting the pieces I want and then adding a 301s to those pages so they're no longer found/visable before re-publishing them on Site 1? Sorry if this is a bit of silly question, just wanted some advice to ensure I go about it the right way. Thanks!0 -
More than one web domain
Hi What is best when considering using more than one domain on a website, what the best policy ? it's a question I get asked a lot, usually because prior to any seo efforts the main domain name purchased is not keyword rich or an abbreviated company name etc. what impact do new domains have on SEO compared to older existing domains- is it worth changing a generic company named domain for a keyword rich domain? if having multiple domains pointing to the site is beneficial how best is it to configure? How do i inform Google? How do both domains get index when there is only one physical site? How should i monitor it, Analytic s, SEO moz? Will the domain compete against each other and effect SEO rank? Are they best used for marketing purposes on external sites, adverts driving traffic to the main site. I'm aware there are lots of questions above, any answers/ opinions , links to further info would be greatly appreciated. cheers

Redirecting an Old Domain
One of my clients has a newish e-commerce website that was just redesigned. Part of this new marketing push is shutting down an old yahoo store. The problem is that this old store's domain has a 10 year old link in DMoz and is there fore in about 200 other directories. Is pointing that old domain at the new website going to be enough to keep all of that link juice flowing?
