Anchor text in blog boilerplate
-
At the end of our company blog posts, we have a short paragraph about our main service using anchor text linking to the homepage. I read somewhere (but can't for the life of me find it again) that this method can lead to Google ranking these blog posts lower than if they weren't there.
Is there any correlation between internal linking using boilerplate anchor text and lower ranking for those internal pages? I understand that this isn't a top priority as Google is placing less value on anchor text, but don't want to do anything that could potentially hurt, either.
Thanks.

I'm sure people on this forum can come up with plenty of theories, but the easiest way to get a definitive answer is to test it.
Remove the anchor text for a few weeks, and see if rankings change, then add it back in again and see if there is an impact. My guess is that a small change like this won't move the needle either way, but if you want to obsess over the small details test it and see what happens.
For bonus points, add Google Analytics tracking code and see if anyone even clicks on the link. If the users aren't clicking on it, then it makes sense to go ahead and remove it.

Is the blog hosted on the same domain as your main website? Like www.domain.com/blog?
If so, there probably isn't any harm in in unless you have thousands of blog posts. In reality, though, I would vary up the tag. It can get old for your readers, as well as the robots. If your blog is hosted off site, though, things change a bit.
Things to consider, though:
-
What % does this make up of the content on the page?
-
Does this cause your pages to have an enormous amount of the exact match internal link?
-
Would my readers want to see this every week/day/hour?

Well the more links in the blog post pages, the more you are passing that PR to other pages, so not just that link but all other navigation links will add to less PR retained on that page, so consider not overdoing navigational links.
A sidewide footer link with same anchor text is not really good for SEO, so I would suggest variations when you link. Why are you linking to the homepage there though, if you could link to a call to action page like a signup or free demo page for example that might be better than simply taking the user back to the homepage.

Written a great guest post for another site. Can I post it on my own blog too?
So I've written this beautiful guest post for a site who've quite frankly done a bad job of promoting it and I'm a little disappointed. So I'm thinking: a) I could send it around to some other publishers and see if they want it. What would be the duplicate content problems here if any? b) Why not just publish it on my own site and promote it to other blogs and the world in the normal way. c) Is this just wrong and if I say I'm going to write for someone then I write for them and if they make a mess of it that's my problem and I should be more selective about who I give my talents away to in the future. Thanks in advance. I am fairly new to outreach and all the internet searching on this topic is returning stuff about 'allowing other people to post guest blogs on your site' which is not helpful. Rank Brain eh? Supposed to be smart. But it's really not. 🙂

Individual keyword pages or single page with backlinks and anchor text?
Hi, I was wondering which is the better strategy? People say the keyword dig is the basis for any SEO strategy, which i totally agree with, however, traditionally the strategy for these keywords has been to write fresh content based on sometimes very similar keywords / terms to attract specific keywords traffic... With google getting smarter and smarter, would you say it is safer (if you know you have a very tight and stable backlinking strategy) to backlink a page that has a number of your similar keywords present, with the relevant anchor text on the inbound sites? So in essence the site ranks for multiple keywords..? I hope this makes sense, it's a very difficult one to get out onto paper! 🙂 Many thanks in advance!

Should I remove links from my internal blog?
I have blogs/news sites on every one of my clients' websites (each representing a different business within the same industry - self storage). On each of these blog sites, I have a writer who places about 3-5 exact keyword match links (varying anchor text) to give interlink juice to the other off-site businesses owned by the client. Each of these blogs receive about five posts per week. I am sure this is mega-over-optimizing and a stupid thing to do considering penguin. So, my questions are: Moving forward - 1. Should i stop adding so many blog articles to each site? 2. How many interlinking anchor texts should I use per blog? 3. Should I go back and either get rid of all those interlinks on past blogs or just trash the blog articles altogether? Please help if you can - I very much appreciate the responses best bd

Guest blogging on a "network" of sites. Good or BAD?
Hi guys! We have the opportunity to guest blog on a network of sites. Basically, this is a syndicated network of sports blogs (around 200) that all link to each other. They own and operate a blog for each major sports franchise. They each average a DA around 60, but almost all of their link equity comes from blogs they own and operate.... My question is this, should we take the opportunity to create editorial content with links back to our site. This would not be paid side or footer links, but real content relevant to their blog and our industry. On a side note; All of these site have a very decent DA and show up well in Google... Thanks for any advice!!!

Remove links or change anchor text?
I am currently in the process of cleaning up the link profile for a website that has been hit by Penguin thanks to loads of links from free directories with exact match keyword anchor texts (about 200 root domains from total of 300 root domains). I was wondering whether it's best to remove these un-natrual keyword anchor text links altogether, or change the anchor texts to brand (domain name, domainname.com, www.domainname.com, http://www.domainname.com)? I am currently trying to remove these links but was thinking it would be quicker to get to a healthier link profile (in terms of brand/commercial anchor text split) by altering the anchor texts and not removing them. Some of these directories are the worst of the worst on the other hand. Also note that I'm only really getting about a 30% response rate from the owners of these directories. Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance.

Ecommerce Blog: Keep Ecom Navigation or not?
I am working on a large ecommerce site right now. I am adding a blog to the site for content purposes. I have been going back and forth on this question, and wanted to get your opinions. Should I integrate the blog into the ecommerce site with the full ecommerce header and/or sidebar, or should I have the blog just be a well designed theme and strip all the ecommerce functionality for it. I would think that people would be more apt to share and link to content if it wasnt surrounded by links to product category pages and the like. Thoughts?

What is the general consensus on using Text Broker for content?
I have seen generally good reviews for http://www.textbroker.com. Does anyone here have personal experience with it? We are considering using it for content creation for guest blogging for clients. As far as we have found, this is all within Google's acceptable webmaster guidelines. In general, how much editing is required from an article provided by Text Broker? Thanks!

Best to create a new blog as a subsection or as a new site?
Our company has a blog "feature" or "theme" that we'd like to publish every week at least. Should we create a subsection of our current company blog? Or should we register a new domain specifically for the feature? The latter would allow us to do some linking back to the main website, and would probably be good in terms of future career flexibility / personal branding for whoever writes it. Things to keep in mind? Anyone have any suggestions? Best practices? What should I do?
