New site - when will it rank?
-
We changed our domain 6 weeks ago as we had a penalty we couldn't shake off...
My question is:
How long will it take to rank for our keywords. I appreciate this is a difficult questions as there are a lot of factors that will effect our ranking. Do Google wait a period of time before allowing a new site to rank well?
-
well your site is definitely being indexed by google... without doing a full seo profile on your site regarding competitors, keywords, competition in keywords, etc I couldn't really tell you the scope of the endeavor you are undertaking.
All I can say is continue your link building efforts and popularize that site. Your rankings are not being slowed or delayed by Google, only by other sites beating you out. So keep working at it!
Unfortunately, there simply isn't any amount of time that will guarantee page 1 results. It's all up to you and your SEO tactics and will definitely take some time to accomplish.
Good luck!

site is www.help-my-mobility.org - we focus on building good content, vids, reviews etc and have already gained some relevant links.
-
these keywords might be more competitive than you realize. what's the site, what are the keywords, what seo tactics have you implemented, etc..
Honestly it sounds like you just need to keep on optimizing and building organic links with great content to me.

We started as soon as the site was live, and now have a number for good quality links - but no ranking as such...
-
As you say Jason it's almost impossible to say when it will rank without knowing your keywords, competition, content links etc.
But in terms of a period of time to wait before Google ranks new sites, there isn't any threshold for this. Quite the opposite actually - there is a freshness factor in Google's algorithm so a new site could feasibly benefit from inflated rankings straight away.
Do things the right way and the rankings will follow, but by all means start doing them now - Google won't limit your progress based on your domain age.

Site Speed Testing Tools For Production Sites
Hi Guys, Any free site speed testing tools for sites in production, which are password protected? We want to test site speed before the new site goes live on top priority pages. Site is on Shopify – we tried google page insights while being logged into the production site but believe its just recording the speed of the password page. Cheers.

What will happen if we 302 a page that is ranking #1 in google for a high traffic term?
We're planning to test something and we want to 302 a page to another page for a period of time. The question is, the original page is ranking #1 for a high traffic term. I want to know what will happen if we do this? Will we lose our rank? Will the traffic remain the same? Ultimately I do not want to lose traffic and I do not want to 301 until it has been properly tested.

If we remove all of the content for a branch office in one city from a web site, will it harm rankings for the other branches?
We have a client with a large, multi-city home services business. The service offerings vary from city to city, so each branch has it's own section on a fairly large (~6,000 pages) web site. Each branch drives a significant amount of revenue from organic searches specific to its geographic location (ex: Houston plumbers or Fort Worth landscaping). Recently, one of the larger branches has decided that it wants its own web site on a new domain because they have been convinced by an SEO firm that they can get better results with a standalone site. That branch wants us to remove all of its content (700-800 pages) on the current site and has said we can 301 all inbound links to the removed content to other pages on the existing site to mitigate any loss to domain authority. The other branch managers want to know if removing this city-specific content could negatively impact search rankings for their cities. On the surface it seems like as long as we have proper redirects in place, the other branches should be okay. Am I missing something?

Will Google bots crawl tablet optimized pages of our site?
We are in the process of creating a tablet experience for a portion of our site. We haven’t yet decided if we will use a one URL structure for pages that will have a tablet experience or if we will create separate URLs that can only be access by tablet users. Either way, will the tablet versions of these pages/URLs be crawled by Google bots?

On-Site Optimization Tips for Job site?
I am working on a job site that only ranks well for the homepage with very low ranking internal pages. My job pages do not rank what so ever and are database driven and often times turn to 404 pages after the job has been filled. The job pages have to no content either. Anybody have any technical on-site recommendations for a job site I am working on especially regarding my internal pages? (Cross Country Allied.com)
