Our anchor-text profile is natural, but looks spammy, what to do?
-
We are a site with about 12 directories, each one in a sub-folder and previously had their own URL which we merged together for increased branding efforts.
When I was analyzing our anchor-text profile of our study abroad directory, it seems that the anchor-text profile is heavy on your key keywords, such as 'Study Abroad' and then some branded. When I say heavy, I am talking 88% are 'study abroad'; followed by 4% are branded, and 2% are branded the old URL that is 301'd to the new subfolder. We have never bought links nor have we really had a strong link building strategy.
I am currently thinking of disavowing the links with low DA and are part of the heavily used (study abroad) keywords. Is this a good idea? What should we do to show that these are natural links?

Thanks for all the input! I was pretty sure that we shouldn't disavow this links but thought it was worth opening up to the community!

Firstly, a lot of sites have a majority of keyword-targeted anchor text deep inside the site. This is primarily due to the fact that most links are internal anchor text links - don't worry about those. Further, deeper links often serve a very specific purpose rather than just talking about your site or company, and are expected to be a little more targeted. If you're not telling people what anchor text to use, it's usually not worth the time to worry about those.
I'd strongly advise against disavowing links that you didn't build manually. The disavow tool is supposed to be used as a last recourse, and only if you think the links are negatively impacting your rankings.
Without seeing the site I can't say for sure, but based on your description it's almost definitely better to focus on improving content and visibility going forward.

Hi Jonathan,
If you can honestly say your backlink profile is natural, then I definitely wouldn't use the disavow tool. I would only use it if I was feeling guilty about something. So how did it end up that 18,000 links that all say the same thing? I'm guessing that you have one or two domains with thousands of pages pointing to you using the same anchor text? If thats the case, then I wouldn't worry about it and focus instead on new links.
Hope that helps!

Hi Michael,
Sorry about that.. here is a bit more information:
Domain Age = 15 years
Backlink Profile - about 20,000 links.
We do not have access to most of these, we have played around with an outreach campaign to get some of them switched but I am not sure we want to have our resources working towards that rather then building new links. Plus it is going to yield an extremely low yield if we attempt it.
Hope this provides a bit more information.

Hi Jonathon,
the answer to your question depends on a few things.
- What is your domain age/backlink profile/total linking domains etc
- do you have access to update the anchor text on some
- how large is your backlink profile? 86% of 100 isn't too alarming, but 86% of 100,000 is a different ststory.
its a little difficult to give too much insight without some more context.

Spammy links redirecting to homepage of site -
Hey guys, I'm auditing a website at the moment and Moz is showing a few spammy links linking to it. The problem is these domains are all 301 redirecting to the domain I'm auditing. Let's say I'm auditing Site A. Site B is been flagged in Moz OSE with 12 spam flags. When I try to open Site B in a browser, it redirects back to Site A. What's the best thing to do, here? Disavowing domains redirecting to the site is surely a bad idea? Cheers.

Is It Required to Clean Natural Backlinks from an Irrelevant Niche?
Hi Friends, My company website is a Travel related website and it is 18 years old domain. We purchased this domain in the year 2010 from a 3rd party person. That person was using the domain as a software portal like brothersoft.com. That person generated so many backlinks from software related websites like forums, gaming websites and so on. So, do I need to clean all those backlinks now because all those backlinks are from high page rank websites. Not only the above concern I have. My website is very popular in Saudi and we get lot of backlinks naturally sometimes from the irrelevant niche. So, is it necessary to clean up those backlinks also. Pls advice me on this.

Internal Linking Anchor text
Hallo everybody, I am trying to improve internal linking but I am little bit confused about internal linking title. Should I use Kenya all-inclusive accommodation, Kenya full board accommodation etc or I should be using the title without the destination name, all-inclusive accommodation, full board accommodation? My worry is if it will not be too much of Kenya in each title. Any advice what is the best practice? Thank you very much

What should I look for when choosing a good article directory for SEO purposes?
I have been writing SEO content for blogs for the past year or so, but I am fairly new to article directories. With SEO in mind, what makes a particular article directory valuable? Currently I'm using EzineArticles and Squidoo; I liked Ezine in particular because of their thorough review process. I saw that recently Squidoo also amped up their checks for original content as a result of Google's stricter policies. I was interested in using HubPages also since they are good about reviewing content. I'm just curious how much factors like this reflect on an article directory SEO-wise. Are there any additional factors that set a a good article directory apart?

PR web anchor text
We are submitting a press release today for a contest we are doing and it is actually news worth compared to a lot of things on PR web. Our question is PRweb.com still worth using? If we use them should we put an anchor text in it? We have one link to our home page and one to the contest page and we were going to have one link to a different page. But will linking to the third page with an anchor text be to much?

Value of a link from very large profile site
Hello We have an opportunity to get a link from a very large traffic site. It comes with a price tag, and Im wondering if it is worth it. Is it ok to mention the page and cost? It is the 5th largest internet site. Would be on their benefactors page. There are many other sites linking from the page, and its obvious they are on there for the link value. I know sometimes one link can do wonders for rankings, where thousands of others can not. But wondering if there is any way to quanitfy this. Is it worth it for the value of the backlink? If we link to the home page, the link juice (alot I hope) would pass through to the deeper pages, and increase their rankings for their target keywords? Thanks for your advise. Sam
