Photon for Wordpress experience
-
Has anyone tried switching on the Photon for Wordpress CDN/image caching feature?
If so, did you experience any problems and have you noticed any improvements?
-
Sorry for the delayed response Kane.
I have been running it for a while now and seems to be OK. Some speed test results have suggested that it may have slowed page load times but too early to say yet so will test further, then test again once it is disabled.
-
Haven't had a chance to use it myself, however based upon the product page it looks like it could be an effective platform to test as a low budget CDN.
Be sure to review the limitations listed on that page. None of them strike me as that big of a deal unless you're using animated GIFs - but it does timeout on large image uploads so that could affect you if you're not resizing huge images prior to uploading them.
I would be worried about whether it fails gracefully. In other words, if you uninstall it, will your image links revert back to self-hosted, or does it permanently change them? Would be a hassle to revert a large number of links.

How does Google handle read more tags in Wordpress
Hi Everyone I am wondering how Google handles the read more tag in Wordpress. I pasted the link to a blog post on Google and found nothing (domain.com/post#readmore). Then I paste the version without #readmore (domain.com/post) and found that Google indexed the page but with the option to click "read more" to read it. The full blog post is not in their index, just the version asking you to read more. Is this because Google hasn't gotten to it or is Google ignoring it. I am not sure but ideally I rather have the full blog post indexed, not the read more version. I am curious to whether this will cause duplicate content issues. What are your experience with this and is it advisable to use an alternate method for read more. Maybe with a Wordpress plugin. Thanks in advance.

Thousands of 404's showing up from Wordpress Blog!?!?
Hey guys, Have recently seen thousands of 404 errors thrown up from my wordpress blog in Google Search Console. These are URL's trying to link (i'm not sure where from) to other parts of my site, but they are not relative to the site root... infact they are a mix of random folders/subfolders and pages on my site. E.g: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/st-martin-de-belleville/chalet-st-martin-de-belleville/ski-holidays/ski-holidays/summer/st-martin-de-belleville/summer/your-stay-st-martin-de-belleville.html This is a link to a picture on the blog: http://www.MYSITE.co.uk/blog/how-to/driving-to-the-alps/attachment/2013-land-rover-range-rover-evoque-front-snow-1/ And the rest of it is finding it's own way there! Any ideas? This is Wordpress by the way. Cheers, Paul. p.s. I got no help from the Wordpress community so am posting here! p.p.s I forgot to mention that MOZ is reporting these issues too, but running Screaming Frog does NOT show any 404's at all on my site...

Should I hide the blog post pages that are automatically built in WordPress?
The pages that are automatically created through WordPress (ex: blog post page 5) are popping up as pages that don't have titles or descriptions. Should I use a branded title and description on those pages or hide them from the search engines? Since it's pulling blog posts to create the pages, keywords are all over the place as well. What's the best course of action? Ex: http://www.blackdogeducation.com/blog/page/2/

Wordpress Pages vs. Posts
When building a blog to promote a particular affiliate offer, I usually like to use a static "page" homepage and then have my posts displayed on another part of my site. I've noticed that my wordpress pages almost always rank higher than wordpress posts and I can't explain it... Here are some possibilities I've thought of: XML Sitemap priority is set at 60% for pages and only 20% for posts My main navbar lists the pages which consequently means they get linked to on every page on my website. Some other phenomenon within the wordpress framework... If it helps, I use Thesis v1.8 on all my sites. I guess my ultimate question is: If pages do in fact rank higher than posts, is it worth it for me to go back and change the site structure on all my blogs which are using posts instead of pages. I know making major modifications like that can be disasterous but will it ultimately pay off? Thanks
