Problem with SEO for my Image based website.
-
My website focuses on movie posters. I'm having a little debate on what is the best way to have images linked to.
The current image location is stored like this:
/movie-name/poster-1.jpg
/movie-name/poster-2.jpgIs it best to leave it like that or change it to :
/movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpg
/movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpgThe reason I ask, is that I read today that Google uses the image name to help detect what the image is about.
At the same time, if the movie name is the in folder structure, along with the image name... wouldn't it start to look like keyword stuffing?
-
As donna said they look at the whole url, but I would prefere the fiile name to be descriptive, I would do something like /horror/frankenstein.png
-
First. Take into consideration what you will loose by renaming urls/images. Then look at estimates for potential gain.
Try something like
/movie-name/actor-in-poster.jpg
/movie-name/modifier.jpg (Meaning if the move is Judge Dread Original this modifer would be original-move or the date of the movie release/decade etc)
Getting into meta properties of the image is not a bad idea either. Right click it and look at the properties then get creative not spammy.

Yes, it will look like stuffing.
Google looks at the entire URL. You're best to go with the first option, using short but descriptive language to name your poster files.
That said, if you're renaming files you need to keep in mind any existing links or bookmarks. You don't want to create a poor user experience or lose any existing link equity.

We're planning a major website redevelopment - SEO Considerations?
We're currently planning a website rehaul, with a new site to be designed and implemented on our existing Drupal 7 platform. I've outlined the following areas to consider: Listing out top content by traffic, conversions, ranking and bounce rates to ensure top content continues to get relevant links throughout site (in particular high internal PA links!). Maintaining a specific KW target for each page Ensuring on-page SEO guidelines remain (i.e. img alt tags, headings and page titles) Having a low page load speed Ensuring architecture of site is built around our keyword methodology What else I need to be aware of? I'm predicting a drop in traffic as this tends to follow redesigns but looking to make this as minimal as possible. Sam

Client rebranded with a new website but can't migrate now defunct franchise website to new website.
Hi everyone, My client is a chain of franchised restaurants with a local domain website named after the franchise. The franchise exited the market while the client stayed and built its own brand with a separate website. The franchise website (which is extremely popular) will be shut down soon but the client will not be able to redirect the franchise website to the new website for legal reasons. What can I do to ensure that we start ranking immediately for the franchise keyphrase as soon as the franchise website is shutdown. We currently have the new website and access to the old website (which we can't redirect) Thanks, T

Links on My website
I am looking to create some more trust on my website by subscribing to BBB. I have heard that my site is penalized and loses "link juice" if I place the BBB logo link in my page footer on every page of my website. Does anyone know how much I am penalized? Should I only put it on my conversion pages and maybe my main 10 sub pages? My main goal is to assist in getting conversions but I don't want to do it at the expense of getting a penalty. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Boo

Joomla Plugins for SEO
Any input on which Joomla plugins could help us to facilitate the SEO on a client's site? Wordpress has some simple all-in-ones but we're not as familiar with Joomla and it doesn't look like that's the case. Thanks!

What are the most underrated SEO tactics?
Looking over the discussion of underrated SEO tactics at http://sphinn.com/story/178993/ , I'm curious if folks here have any favorite SEO tactics that they feel are ignored, underrated, or somehow not appreciated by the community at large. Any thoughts? Among the tactics listed in the Sphinn post: Blog commenting Analytics to identify low-hanging keyword fruit Getting your site set up properly at the server level Unique and relevant imagery Internal links Google Place page optimization Several more... Any others that should be included? I'd personally add segmenting your keyword traffic into trademark (those that mention your brand name) versus non-trademark segments for more thorough analysis.
