Problem with Google SERPS
-
I am running yoast SEO plugin in WP.
I just noticed when I google the client, none of their meta data is showing. I see that I had facebook OG clicked, which looks like it made duplicates of all the titles etc. Would that be the problem? I have since turned it off. I am hoping that was the problem.
Also, when the client searches it says in the meta desc - you've viewed this site many times". What is that?
-
Looks like fixing that Open Graph setting and resubmitting did the trick. Thanks for all the suggestions.

If it's blocked but there are still links to it, Google will continue to index the URL's
http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156449
I would think that if it's crawling again, this problem will go away on it's own. My least favorite part of SEO is understanding the problem and waiting for Google to catch up to my understanding Good luck!

I looked in webmaster tools and it did look like it quit crawling the site on the 23rd. it is back crawling though. I still cant see why that would cause the meta data to quit showing.
-
When you do a search in google for: site:hslawyers.com you can see that all the pages have unique descriptions and titles, therefore nothing is being blocked inthe robot.txt or htaccess file. I would guess it's from the home page which has this as a description
Perhaps Google is not displaying it because of the special characters, but I dont think that is the case. Perhaps your home page is pulling data from outside of the Yoast plug in...
Also,
I found a code on your home page:
from my understanding noodp is attemting to pull your description from DMOZ. Read more here: http://www.seoboy.com/what-are-the-meta-tags-noodp-and-noydir-used-for-in-seo/

I also had problems when I went to Yoast SEO, but only because the theme was handling title and description in a method that yoast couldn't override -- but since you can see it on the blog, that's not it.
Here's someone with a similar problem - http://forums.seochat.com/google-optimization-7/snippet-missing-preview-text-serps-accompanied-severe-rankings-drop-467567.html
It really does sound like the crawl was blocked somehow.
I mean, you can find other people talking about situations where their optimized titles aren't being used like http://www.seroundtable.com/google-titles-match-12779.html but, I've seen the serps with no title or desc before and in those cases, it's been robots.txt stuff or other problems crawling the site.
Any possibilities you had an outage? Do you have analytivcs that let you see googlebot's activities (i.e. do you use something besides Google Analytics?

Hey Joe,
The only recent change has been going to Yoast SEO. I have already checked webmaster tools. No errors. Fetched fine and Googlebot and I resubmit it.
-
When you just see the URL and not the title or description, you need to make extra-sure you are not blocking googlebot. Check robots.txt , check for meta robots tags, check webmaster Tools.
Maybe try the fetch page as googlebot feature in webmaster tools and see what it shows you?
-
oh, the site is www.hslawyers.com.
-
It can be many reasons, withut a URL it will be hard to tell.
If the site is new it may take time to index. Also, in your Wordpress general settings make sure the site title and tagline are left blank.
-
Nothing. It is blank. Just the URL.
-
What is showing in the SERP's? Perhaps the title and description are pulling from somewhere else...
-
Thanks Bryan,
I do have it configured correctly - I think. I have a unique title and desc on every one of the pages. If I go to the homepage, I see it fine. It is not showing in the serps.

Hi Dave,
Yoast for Wordpress is great you just have to set it up properly: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success
It is best practice to add a unique title and description to all the pages that you want to show up on a the SERP.
"Also, when the client searches it says in the meta desc - you've viewed this site many times". What is that?"
This is a personalized setting.
In order to see what a new searcher sees, you will need to clear your browsers history, and make sure you are logged off of any Google accounts.

What about a No-record backlink in the eye of Google
I have an uncertainty - when I make a backlink as a piece of SEO in some site when I reviewed similar couple of days after. It hasn't filed and I checked its robots record. It appearing Client specialist: Mediapartners-Google Disallow: User-Agent: * Disallow: However, is this make any backlink uphold or only this with the end goal of not ordering in google. I make it straightforward - "Is this sort of backlink creation my site My Music Goals uphold my SEO action or Not?" In this No-record site.

.xml sitemap showing in SERP
Our sitemap is showing in Google's SERP. While it's only for very specific queries that don't seem to have much value (it's a healthcare website and when a doctor who isn't with us is search with the brand name so 'John Smith Brand,' it shows if there's a first or last name that matches the query), is there a way to not make the sitemap indexed so it's not showing in the SERP. I've seen the "x-robots-tag: noindex" as a possible option, but before taking any action wanted to see if this was still true and if it would work.

Google Indexing - what did I missed??
Hello, all SEOers~ I just renewed my web site about 3 weeks ago, and in order to preserve SEO values as much as possible, I did 301 redirect, XML Sitemap and so on for minimize the possible data losses. But the problem is that about week later from site renewal, my team some how made mistake and removed all 301 redirects. So now my old site URLs are all gone from Google Indexing and my new site is not getting any index from Google. My traffic and rankings are also gone....OMG I checked Google Webmaster Tool, but it didn't say any special message other than Google bot founds increase of 404 error which is obvious. Also I used "fetch as google bot" from webmaster tool to increase chance to index but it seems like not working much. I am re-doing 301 redirect within today, but I am not sure it means anything anymore. Any advise or opinion?? Thanks in advance~!

No existing pages in Google index
I have a real estate portal. I have a few categories - for example: flats, houses etc. Url of category looks like that: mydomain.com/flats/?page=1 Each category has about 30-40 pages - BUT in Google index I found url like: mydomain.com/flats/?page=1350 Can you explain it? This url contains just headline etc - but no content! (it´s just generated page by PHP) How is it possible, that Google can find and index these pages? (on the web, there are no backlinks on these pages) thanks

Google Analytics
I usually have Google analytics "real-time" running on one of my monitors, occasionally I glance at the screen to see that are TOP KEYWORDS people are using, lately there have been a lot of long-tail keywords. If I try to copy and paste the queries into google, i can never seem to find us organically for the long-tail searches? Is the real-time feature accurate? Thank you!

Is this against google rules
Hi i am wanting to know if this is against google rules. I am building a website which will have lots of different sections and i wanted to know if you were allowed to have a new domain name pointing to a section of the site. so for example if i had a site with a domain name of manchester and then i wanted a section of the site to be called www.manchester.com/complimentary health I want to know if to help with traffic to the site and to have a better domain name, if it was allowed to have a new domain name pointing to that section of the site which could be called www.complimentaryhealth.com and have that pointing to the section. would love to hear your thoughts on this
