Site explorer Issue
-
Hello,
I'm looking to see in the Site Explorer the links coming from directories such as BOW, yahoo etc. I'm listed there from almost 1 year and these links are not listed, the same with my competitors.
I'm missing something?
Thank you
Claudio

Hi Cladio,
Mozscape doesn't include every link on the web, but it does usually include links that are likely to most influence your rankings. Links on large directory sites, or on pages beneath several layers of navigation, often don't get included.
It's similar to how Google may not crawl/index pages very well on DMOZ - it's a large important site, but there simply isn't enough link juice to spread through all the pages.
(that said, our engineers are working on updates so fewer important links get dropped from the index)
Here's how Moz Help Team manager Aaron Wheeler explained it to a customer:
"Linkscape focuses on a breadth-first approach, and thus we nearly always have content from the homepage of websites, externally linked-to pages and pages higher up in a site’s information hierarchy. However, deep pages that are buried beneath many layers of navigation are sometimes missed and it may be several index updates before we catch all of these.
If our crawlers or data sources are blocked from reaching those URLs, they may not be included in our index (though links that points to those pages will still be available). Finally, the URLs seen by Linkscape must be linked-to by other documents on the web or our index will not include them."

Jesse,
You're right, the content is the KING, but always is better to know what are doing the rest or not ?
Thank you for your info. usually I use magestic (especially when needs to rebuild the link profile).
Thank you

OSE does a good job but is not complete.
Consider mixing it with ahrefs.com or Majestic.. always GWT but that won't work for competitors backlinks.
(although honestly I'd worry less about what directories you're linked from and where your competitors backlinks are coming from and more about what kind of engaging content you are able to pump out)

Dear Mike,
I love Open Site explorer and I know it doesn't list all links, so which tool do you recommends, I'm looking to know exactly in which paid directories (trusted directories) my competitors are listed.
Thank you for your time

It may just be that moz bot hasn't crawled these links and seen them. Open Site Explorer is great but it does have its limitations and should be augmented with other backlink research tools.

How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
Hi, I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I: 1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed 2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool) 3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed. I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it Thanks Ben

Open Site Explorer: Facebook Shares, Likes, etc.
I don't fully understand what this means in the report for our site: http://screencast.com/t/aG5jbkYWLA here is our site: www.discountqueens.com & we have thousands of fans & facebook likes and all the time on all our posts. For example yesterday we had 73 likes on this post alone: http://www.discountqueens.com/amazon-ultimate-shrinky-dinks-jewelry-designer-1495/ So here's my questions: Is there an error in the reporting? Are we using a social sharing method that isn't giving us valid credit for these links? What should I consider doing differently & why isn't our likes, shares, tweets & Google+ being calculated into our score?

Is it still best practice to optimize your site with geographic long tail keywords?
Since Google is tailoring search results to user IP and location, is it still best practice to optimize your site titles etc. with long-tail geographic keywords? For example, instead of optimizing a page for "dentist in West Palm Beach, Florida", search users who are IN West Palm Beach can just search "dentists" and a list of local dentists will be displayed (both in the local listings AND organic search listings). I'd love to see Rand cover this on a Whiteboard Friday!

Open Site Explorer - Image Anchor Text
Hey there. I'm researching internal links and In my report I get alot of image links with the following text in the Link Anchor Text column: (img alt)(img)[No Anchor Text]. Is it because my images don't have alt-text or something else... How to optimize correctly? See attached screenshot. Best regards K87xLN8

Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer?
Hi, Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer? I want to find backlinks of some unavailable pages and YSE was a great tool to deal with. But when I used tools like Open Site Explorer, ahrefs.com etc., I couldn't find one same like YSE. Because when I tried, it shows'No data available for this URL' where on YSE I found inbound links. What Alternatives Are There? thanks in advance!

Yahoo Site Explorer died. Does DA and PA Seomoz parameters have all it takes to replace YSE?
We're trying to simplify our link analysis job when acquiring a new external link. We're wondering to know if Domain Authority Seomoz parameter is all what we need to take a decision. Does DA Seomoz parameter takes into consideration 'domain age', 'alexa ranking', 'dmoz links', indexed pages on google', and 'inbound links vs outbound links'?
