Duplicate title tag
-
Hello,
My site have problems with duplicate title, they were reported from google webmaster. For example:
/extra-services/car-pick-up-service-146.html (1) /extra-services/transportation--car-rails--146.html (2) According to my sitemap the first URL is right (1). But the second URL is wrong, I don't know it occur here. -
I just recognize we parse content of a page base on ID, so anything character change between "car-pick-up-service" and "146", the results still is /extra-services/car-pick-up-service-146.html.
The page /transportation--car-rails--146.html may be come from somewhere, I could not find them. Is there any way to remove this link? because I don't want use 301 redirect. Thanks,
-
As Chris stated above, the page is certainly there. Some CMS' will create duplicate pages and it might be as simple as determining where the page is coming from and removing it. I couldn't find any inbound links for this page, so you would probably be ok removing it.
On the other hand, 301 redirecting the page would probably be a cleaner option. If you are running an apache server, you would write a 301 redirect in your .htaccess file like below.
RedirectMatch 301 /extra-services/transportation--car-rails--146.html /extra-services/car-pick-up-service-146.html
This should take care of the problem, and GWMT won't bother you about it anymore.

John,
It is certainly there. The first thing I'd look at are the social chicklets (facebook, twitter, g+, linkedin) at the bottom of the page. Those links look like they're code strangely. Then 301 one of those pages to the other. Look in your file manager on the server for the page you think is not supposed to be there--it may be an old page that was supposed to be deleted but wasn't--just a guess.

Question about Homepage Title
Hi there, I recently made a change to the title URL for my site, and it changed how Google displayed my sitemap. Before it showed the most common sites, and now it simply links to 4 of them below the domain URL without descriptions. I have attached images below which shows my problem. I hope this is the right section for this question. Thanks! 5ypdnY2 4u2HAia

On Site Question: Duplicate H2...
Hi All A few on-site audit tools pull information on duplicate H2 tags on pages. This implies it's a bad thing and should be fixed - is that the case? On one of my sites the tag-line is in H2 in the header, so appears on every page... Just wondering if this is something worth fixing. Thanks

Regarding Google Title 'Width' and changing Meta Titles w/o Penalty?
A vast majority of pages on my site are now too wide (the character count was fine prior to the March update). I want to go through and update them so they display properly and are not too wide. However, I am concerned, as my understanding was that changing Meta Titles is dangerous and can have a negative effect on your rankings and can cause real issues. Is this an opportunity to change my Titles all-together without any kind of penalty? Or can I only trim the end part? In summary: 1. Can I edit all of my Meta Titles without affecting my rankings? 2. If no, how do I edit them properly to fit within the proper width and not cause any issues? 3. If yes, I can go through and change all my Meta Titles to whatever extent and optimize them to reflect latest best practices? There are changes I wanted to make to all my meta titles but I've been afraid to... due to fear of rankings drops etc Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Canonical tags
In previous we had issues with capital letters in page urls. So we made a 301 redirection to lower case page url. But I read there that it's not good idea to use 301 redirection, better solution for that canonical tag. So we placed canonical url tak to lower case page url... So after week, in google webmaster tools I see around 60k os dublicate pages. Why google don't see canonical tag? Thank you

Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/ Read More Link on Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/deckmaintain.htm I think this may be affecting my seo. Any suggestions on what I should do about this? Should I add a canonical to the home page and/or on the other page? Both pages are indexed by google. Thanks for any help or tips.
