How to get metrics on Home page image link to youtube video in lightbox
-
My home page has a explainer video. Is there a way to get metrics or analytics data about who watch or don't watch the video? http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com
For example, if I have 100 unique visitors on this page and my video get 33 views, 33% saw the video!
I think the data provide by youtube are not accurate, my site has a avarage of 40 visitors/day and my video was saw 84 times sinces it is online, 14 days ago. On that 84 clicks, I most have click 30 times!!!
When you lend on my home page, you can't miss it!

I don't believe only a few visitors saw it. Conversation rate has increase.
I use Google Analytics, is there a code or something that can be done to get metrics or data more accurate then the .Ananalytics" provide in my youtube control panel?
Please HELP!
thank you,
BigBlaze

Hi Jean,
To answer your question, Milhai offers a link to a technical solution that will help you - but if you'd consider moving away from YouTube for this video (which i'd recommend) then an easier out of the box solution to better analytics, which won't require you to customise your JavaScript, would be to move to a platform like Wistia - http://www.wistia.com
YouTube view count metrics are notoriously unreliable - so it's entirely possible that you've had more views that the view counter is suggesting; however, I wouldn't be so quick to assume more of your visitors must have watched the video than the data shows. It's totally feasible that only a small percentage of people realised your icon would provide a lightbox video, and if this is the case, you may want to look at having the embed appear inline on the page, rather than as a pop-over.
Thanks,
Phil.

Thank you for the answer.
Did you test it or instal this code?
How to set up goal for this? I only know how to setup goal for the fnishorder page.
Can you help or redirect to instructions?
Thank you,

Hey Jean,
Here's a fairly recent guide on how to track engagement with your embedded video in Google Analytics: http://www.analyticsresults.com/2013/03/youtube-video-tracking-into-google.html
Hope this helps!

High Temporary Redirects: Login required pages
Noticed something interesting, a high temporary redirect report from Moz. Reviewing the pages they are caused by the user having to login and getting redirected. I can see the returnto query in the URL too. My thoughts: Since a login is required and the user is being redirected, these should remain 302 and not 301. I tested my Google Analytics account to **Exclude URL Query Parameter **returnto, just to see if it affected traffic. It didn't, I mean I don't see urls duplicated with the parameter anymore, just grouped together, so traffic is still being counted. I'm going to wait 1 more day and see what impact the GA traffic is before applying the exclusion to my true Google Analytics profile. This got me thinking, I should probably exclude this parameter from Google and Bing Webmaster Tools, that way Google/bing won't read those urls. Now does Moz's crawler follow that? Do you think that would change my moz crawl diagnostic report because I told Google/Bing crawlers to exclude that parameter. What do you think of my approach to reduce these high temporary redirects reported by Moz? Will it work? Has it plagued you?

Pinterest links have been growing in Webmaster Tools
I've been using Pinterest for a couple of years now. It has been great in promoting our brand and generating referral traffic. My question is this. I've noticed in Webmaster Tools, in the "Links to your site" section, that my links from Pinterest has really shot up.It's gone from 3,500 links, 6 months ago, to over 23,000 recently. Those of you using Pinterest, have you seen a similar increase? Just wondering if Google is recognizing more of the links, even though they are "no-follow" links.

Time to get reconsideratio n request?
Hi there, recently I have been getting failed reconsideration requests back within 7 days. The last one i submitted (third) is now 2 weeks and no message back. Does this mean do you think it's gone to the next stage of auditing? is it a good sign? Typically when failed I have always has that response within 7 days. I also noticed a slight improvement in rankings but no message back in webmaster tools. Does anyone have experience with this? if so does this sound about right? thanks guys.

SERPS showing wrong page
Hi there, searching Google UK for the term 'wireless alarms' returns the following page at position 39'ish - http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-information/gsm-gprs-alarm-systems The page that should be returned for that search is - http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment The page being returned by Google at present is not optimised in any way for 'wireless alarms' but the page it should be showing is optimised for that term and the Moz grading tool agrees. The correct page also has a higher PA and 533 inbound links and the page being displayed has a lower PA and only 3 links. Could some kind soul tell me what i am doing wrong please? Thank you Si

800,000 pages blocked by robots...
We made some mods to our robots.txt file. Added in many php and html pages that should not have been indexed. Well, not sure what happened or if there was some type of dynamic conflict with our CMS and one of these pages, but in a few weeks we checked webmaster tools and to our great surprise and dismay, the number of blocked pages we had by robots.txt was up to about 800,000 pages out of the 900,000 or so we have indexed. 1. So, first question is, has anyone experienced this before? I removed the files from robots.txt and the number of blocked files has still been climbing. Changed the robots.txt file on the 27th. It is the 29th and the new robots.txt file has been downloaded, but the blocked pages count has been rising in spite of it. 2. I understand that even if a page is blocked by robots.txt, it still shows up in the index, but does anyone know how the blocked page affects the ranking? i.e. while it might still show up even though it has been blocked will google show it at a lower rank because it was blocked by robots.txt? Our current robots.txt just says: User-agent: *

How to track link building? What metrics?
I'm an SEO newbie (my main roles are front-end designer and content manager).
Reporting & Analytics | | RSGregC
I've been managing our company's effort to generate links. In the past, trying to develop relationships has gone nowhere. As a result, we're currently mostly creating good content ourselves and posting it on Web2.0 sites (weebly, etc.) and linking back to our site, and then using UAW (unique article wizard) to create a second tier of links to those links. We've been doing this for a while, and our traffic from SEO is going up - but we don't really know how to track our work. Can you please
a) give your opinion about our approach, and
b) tell me which metrics we should be using, and which tools for these metrics? Thank you so much

What's the difference between landing pages and entrance pages on Google Analytics?
I'm confused about the difference between entrance pages and landing pages on Google Analytics. If I compare our search traffic to entrance pages with search traffic to landing pages it seems very similar -- but not identical. But this is probably because all of our GA analytics is sampled (we're a huge site). Can anyone help?
