Maintaining or improving keyword ranking
-
I started a second website recently and it is doing very well. I am on the first page for a competitive keyword - spot 5 according to Moz. It is actually a category page that is ranking so well which is a surprise to me as I have read many times that I should deindex category pages due to duplicate content!
My questions:
1. How do I get backlinks to a CATEGORY page?! I have been able to get backlinks to certain posts because my website is a deal blog and other deal blogs give me credit for popular deals by linking to my post.
2. How can I maintain this high ranking? Of course I want in spot 3 but this website isn't even 2 months old so I know I should be patient. At this point, I just want to stay on the first page. What is the best way to do that? I am about to fill out the SEO stuff for the category page which I haven't done yet. Thanks!

Thank you. The guest blogging idea is great but will be a challenge. I haven't started with social networking yet but it is on my TO DO list.
Can you get me a little more info on power internal links? I have a signature item that goes at the bottom of every post. It encourages readers to sign up for the newsletter. Should I have a link there to the category page as well? It is my MAIN category - it basically contains all my blog posts.

Here are the following things that you can do to increase and maintain your ranking for desired key phrase in search engines like Google.
- Build back links from Guest Blogging. The idea is to write content on other relevant blogs and get a link back to that page as well as home page. This will increase quality links back to the page and you will see a positive jump in rankings from the desired key phrases.
- Try to increase the overall social value, it is recommended to get some real +1s to that page and a website as a whole.
- Powerful internal link will also help!
There are few of the basic things that can help you stay and jump positive in SERP rankings from the desired key phrases.
Hope this helps!

Still possible to target keywords?
If you're a professional SEO and a client wants to target certain keywords, other than on-page tweaks what else is there? Or am I right in presuming there's nothing you can do off-page any more?

Why did my rank drop?
I was thrilled that my new blog catapulted up to spot # 5 on google last week for a great keyword. I worked hard on creating internal links to my category page as well as improving my content and getting a couple good external follow backlinks. But today, the report says I dropped off the top 50 list. How can I find some insight as to why this happened??

Why do hallmarks from web design companies carry so much ranking weight for the recipient website?
Website designers/developers place hallmarks (Website Designed by XXXX) in the footer region of the web sites they have designed/built, how much ranking value do these hallmarks have being that they're pointing from sites that are irrelevant to the web designer's, and why?

Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
Greetings mozers, One of my competitors and I both rank on the first page for our main keyword. They have 37k+ links, me only like 300 or so. My company actually has a business location though. This other site is just a listing of locations and they build sites for most of my competitors. If I were able to get listed on their site, would that make me a stronger competitior with them? And we would probably only get a brand term link from them but not a main keyword anchor text. Will it be as effective to get the link from them if it's only for my brand name? Thanks, Cy

One website with different niches/keywords.
Hello Mozzers! I am currently building a website, which basically contains information from different niches. Let's make it clear: My website is something like eHow. The idea is to write quality articles, written especially to give the searcher the right information, without any scam, product advertisement or etc. The incomes are from AdSense. Actually I got inspired for this website from the Google Panda update. So... my question is - would it be harder to rank with such a website(domain name) that contains different niches and keyword phrases? Lets change a lil bit the situation and show you an example - I am trying to rank with keyword "how to make nice cheezeburgers" with http://theanswer.org/how-to-make-nice-cheezeburgers/ . At the same time I am also trying to rank with "The best movies of all times" with http://theanswer.org/the-best-movies-of-all-times/ . Thank you, Ralchev 🙂
