Multiple links from a single web-site
-
When one good web-site (PR5) has a link to my web-site - it's great. But, if this site has a second link to my web-site from another page, is this also good? Or, let me ask in a different way, will my web-site get "double benefit" from that web-site?

I had to think about it for a minute but what I would do is
< meta name="canonical" content="http://www.descriptionpage.com" />
on your eCommerce pages and then put all the content onto one description pages and use rel="nofollow" in the links.
Then all your content is available and if you test this on a few pages you might be surprised to find that one page with more unique content will probably outrank the two anyways.

Christopher,
I cannot stand on this as fact but it is my understanding that if there are a bunch (nearly every page) linking from one subdomain, www.domain.com to sister subdomain shop.domain.com you will see massive discounting for those links.
If you know something I do not about subdomains etc. I would like to hear it but I think you may have some altered information as far as the subdomain / domain relationship and Google changes. The only thing they will be sharing with the new changes will be appearance count in the SERP. Matt said that once you have seen a cluster of about 4 you will not see anymore for that search or be much less likely. ARTICLE HERE covers it pretty well.
The Matt Cutts video below covers cross linking sites pretty well.

From my experience, the value of a second link is very low in comparison to the first link found on the domain.
The link given credit used to be the link with the highest value metrics page (inbound links to a page, pagerank, etc) but I would argue that now the best link is probably the one on the most relevant content page, in a natural editorial way, where the page is closest in clicks to the homepage.
Hope this helps,

a link from every page will discount all of the links by a big margin (as of July 2013)
This is a different but related question. Suppose I host the suddomain www.mydomain.com on one server and the subdomain shop.mydomain.com on an eCommerce server. There are no duplicate pages but there is more detail and articles about products on www and customers can purchase the products on shop. Is it OK to have a link from each product on www to the corresponding product on shop? Please note it is the same domain, only different subdomains, and it is my understanding that Google has started treating these more like one site, in which case, these links are virtual internal links.
Best,
Christopher -
This is an are that is currently being addressed by the new Google update this July.
The short answer is: Yes absolutely kind of not really.
Double benefit: No
As each linking C block has it's own bonus the second link is from the same C block and has less benefit.
However, the second link may point to a certain page instead of the home page and be a big benefit to that page.
This has limits though. A link or two is great, a link from every page will discount all of the links by a big margin (as of July 2013)

Hi. One of our competitors is ranking ahead of us on Google. Our site has a much stronger authority and much more quality links than this competitor. Would anyone have any explanations for this? Thanks
Hi Guys - I've noticed recently that one of our competitors is ranking extremely well on Google, while we seem to be fluctuating, along with other competitors, for our main keywords. Our site has a much stronger authority and much more quality links than this competitor and traffic is continuously increasing each month. Would anyone have any explanations as to why we may be seeing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Link building for a non-linkable site?
Hello, I am trying to zone in on a link building strategy for a non-linkable site. What I mean by non-linkable is I have a construction site. It's a family owned and operated small business. Our clients are farmers and older people usually. We go do a job, do it right the first time, and leave. Basically even if a couple of people who link to me for some weird reason, this is no way in the realm of 6,000 that my main competition has. I have tried to get as many quality citation resources as possible by using get listed, and white spark. My domain authority is only 16 though, so I must be able to increase this somehow. I have listed with Google +, Bing, Yahoo and every other major citation I could find. So now with trying too increase links with other ideas. I read somewhere to donate to charitable organizations, but if they link back to me as a donor, in an unrelated field, isn't that spammy like? So a construction site donating to a disease website, and then getting a backlink in return, does that look weird. It just seems like there are so many rules that I do not want to mess something up. I do not want get spammy links, but not sure if citations count as links so I am doing a win-win thing? Thanks for any tips Chris

Link building during link removal
We were advised by out outsourced link removal vendor not to build any links while they are removing links pointing to our site. I am worried that our site will lose significant traffic if we dont build any new links while waiting for them to remove links that caused our site to be penalized. What are your thoughts?

Are Directory Links a Good Source of Branded Links?
I am trying to increase the number of branded links for a few of my sites since the links are too heavily weighted on anchor text. If so, would you recommend a service like Directory Maximizer?

Linking to root domain or specific sub-site
Hello, When optimizing for multiple keywords, should I try to get links back to the root domain of the company I work with, or would it be better to link back to sub-sites specific to the keyword I am optimizing for? Does 'getting the root up' help all keywords I work with? Cheers, Mike

Linking for multiple clients
We own a small web design company that both creates the sites and then does the seo marketing for them once they are created. The business has grown to have over 100 customers. However, as we sell more sites we find our SEO team is somewhat short staffed. So far, the area that suffers the most is the link building aspect of SEO. The sites we build are for dentists and usually only contain 10 to 20 pages. Enough to list the services they offer and where they are located. Here is my question: We need to get the most effective links possible for over 100 sites with just a couple of employees. What would be the most effective links to try for. We cant chase down every stray link for our doctors. And, we don't have time to do in-depth research for each client each month as we are already pushing ourselves to the limit. In time, we will have more employees to help share the SEO load. But for now, where should we be spending our time most effectively? We can usually only budget one or two hours per client each month for linking. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Why does Open Site Explorer list Twitter and Facebook links for one of my sites and not others
One of my sites has the nofollow backlink listed for Facebook and Twitter while 2 other sites do not. All 3 sites have had accounts for over a year. Does the amount of interactivity with the social media profiles have to do with it? I know it is a nofollow link but I was just curious as those profiles might help with the brand signal etc.
