Should i fix 404 my errors?
-
We have about 250, 404 errors due to changing alot of page names throughout our site.
I've read some articles saying to leave them and eventually they will go away. Normally I would do a 301 redirect.
What's the best solution?
-
I would do this. I personally don't think 250 404's is too much to knock out within a few hours. If you were in the thousands it would be a different concern.
Use excel to make this faster and 301
-
You can see the corresponding correct page against the 404 error page
Been the number of pages are high as you said, Make an entry in excel to note down all these 404 error pages and corresponding new page on the site
Then simply apply 301 redirect to the corresponding pages
-
If it's at all possible to redirect to a relevant page, I would do that. If the 404s are for pages that are no longer relevant, or old content you really don't want people to be able to find any more, then a 404 is just fine.

My last site crawl shows over 700 404 errors all with void(0 added to the ends of my posts/pages.
Hello, My last site crawl shows over 700 404 errors all with void(0 added to the ends of my posts/pages. I have contacted my theme company but not sure what could have done this. Any ideas? The original posts/pages are still correct and working it just looks like it did duplicates and added void(0 to the end of each post/page. Questions: There is no way to undo this correct? Do I have to do a redirect on each of these? Will this hurt my rankings and domain authority? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Wade

200 for Site Visitors, 404 for Google (but possibly 200?)
A 2nd question we have about another site we're working with... Currently if a visitor to their site accesses a page that has no content in a section, it shows a message saying that there is no information currently available and the page shows 200 for the user, but shows 404 for Google. They are asking us if it would be better to change the pages to 200's for Google and what impact that might have considering there would be different pages displaying the same 'no information here' message.

Problem with 404 and 500 Status code pages
Dear SeoMozzers, I have a question related to one of the sites I have recently changed the URL, going from http:example.com to http://www.example.com I did 301 redirects, as I was recommended to do. In the past month I have noticed an incredible drop in Google's rankings for many keywords and checking the crawling errors appearing in the SEO Crawling Report I have witnessed mayhem with Canonical/301 redirect types of errors. Now, things seem a little better. I have noticed a reduction in the number of 301 and Canonical type or errors (by the way, I still do not get the Canonical issue :-)). My little questions are the following: Will I ever go back to the positions I used to occupy before I redesigned the site's URL structure? I have now noticed that the SeoMoz Crawling report show "404 Staus" errors and one "505 Status" error. Can somebody please tell me how to fix the 404 Status Errors? Can I fix them by myself, or maybe I can ask the guys at the web hosting company, since I am really bad at taking care of technical issues? Thank you for the time you took to clarify my doubts. Ad maiora, Sal

Setting a 404, best practices
Is it enough to just delete a page, or is it necessary to do something else to 404 a page correctly? Is there a great link to explain how to set http status codes?

Moving wordpress to main website - errors galore
Hi there A while back I asked whether I should move my established blog on wordpress over to my main website http://www.gardenbeet.com. The overwhelming response was to move it. I still have not seen any benefit other than problems (2mths later). Maybe something is Not Quite Right? Here is a list of issues? Any insights would be welcome. I have installed Yeost SEO plugins 1. A blog category (garden art) ended up outranking my main website for the term Garden Art - so I did a 301 on the garden art category - main website has now regained its ranking in the top 3 position (was number 2 before the move). 2. I have removed the categories from the blog as a 301 on the Garden Art catgegory would not make sense to a user. I decided to use tags as a navigational tool instead. I figured that because I have over 500 tags I could not have had the tags out rank my main website for any key term. So far correct. But now i have wanings from SEO moz 500 missing meta tags,(for the tags) - do i really have to write over 500 meta? over 160 long urls and titles - when i commenced the blog I had no idea that Urls and headings were linked in wordpress ( my developer does not think i should rename the urls and use a 301 as I already have a tonne due to a site rebuild) - is it OK to leave the long urls and fix the title only? On wordpress I had bewteen 400-900 users on my blog a day (using wordpress analytics) - now only 200 (using GA) - Yes I now have increased links to my website but have seen no imrpovement on my SERPS - will i see an improvement in my rankings? my wordpress site use to have page rank of 3 -
