Dropping Old Site After Too Many Penalties. What Do You Think About the New One?
-
I finally decided to drop my website after it kept losing traffic even though I spent hundreds of hours and lots of $$$ trying to recover from both Panda and Penguin. I should've started a new website a lot earlier.
So here's my new website, let me know if it's worthy of Big G: http://www.webhostinghero.com/
Thank you in advance for your constructive comments!

I would not worry much about them as I don't see anything really egregious. Alan makes a good point on the broken links. I did not see them (again it was cursory).
Best to you both.

I had a quick look, your site crawls ok, but I did find 65 broken links, most pointing to http://www.webhostinghero.com/tools/' These are all wasting PR.
I also saw that you no indexed a lot of pages, but you marked them follow, that is good
A few titles and descriptions too long. and few other problems in small numbers.
For a wordpress site you have done a good job, most wordpress sites I have crawled are a mess.

The .ca website has been shutdown in early May so these links aren't there anymore.
As for the other links, I hope they won't hurt the website as they've been built by the previous domain owner. I tried contacting the referring websites but without success.
-
We use Ahrefs.com as that shows links much earlier than GWMT. I will pm you a couple of screen shots. But an example is that on April 15 your .ca showed up with 500+ links all nofollowed.
You do have a few poor sites linking to you but I do not think they will necessarily hurt you in aggregate. Some are already 404 on the link to you.
Hope that helps,
Robert

Hi Robert,
What do you mean "the link profile"? The website barely has any backlinks, no?
That said, there are lots of things missing, I just wanted to have the minimum to launch the website as it won't get lots of traffic in the beginning. There's going to be a full hosting directory and we have lots user reviews to publish.
Thank your for comments!

Stephane,
Typically I don't respond to these type questions because they are a two-edged sword, but it's late and maybe no one will see it.
First, I like the layout of the site and the fact you appear to be striving toward a reference type site for hosting questions (this is a practice we use with certain clients we have but not for ads per se.) Your content is fresh, original, and well written with the caveat I did a reasonable but cursory check.
The UI/UX is good for a reference site on the whole, but you might rethink the menu structure toward making it a bit more "problem tabs" versus Home, About, Services, Archives, etc. (Again, partially a bias by me and partially looking at if I came here to find info on a hosting issue, I would want to get to that.)
Your link profile first scared me when I saw the big jump, but saw they were all no followed from your .ca. The anchor text seems reasonable as well. You could do with a bit better meta descriptions in some areas and your title tags follow the convention of branding first one time then branding last the next which is just not something I like to see. Understand that by doing the onpage when it is created, you help yourself out.I understand you are selling other hosting services from the site and that seems to negate having more info on selling the hosting yourself. So, on the whole I think it is a good beginning for you.
Going after the WP community is a good idea.
Best,
Robert

Rankings have dropped but why?
Recently our keywords have plummeted with regards to anything hen related on our stag and hen website. We were on the first page ranking 6th for terms such as Newcastle hen and hen weekend Newcastle. Now were around 15th this has also began to happen with other keywords. Content wise our pages score 90+ on page optimisation, we do have various keywords on the pages alike our competitors and use the highest searched for term as our page title. Our page speed is good on mobile and desktop. I’m struggling to see why we can’t seem to crawl back up to the first page when people who are outranking us have minimal content on slow sites. I know we lack back links but this can't be the only reason? Our website is hangoverweekends.co.uk

Sudden Drop in Rankings/Traffic/Organic Impressions Without a Penalty
Hi Moz community! I have a question about a local client in Raleigh, NC - http://paragonbuildinggroup.com This client came to us from another agency who had previously not done such a great job with the design/development of the site, or with the marketing of it, so we are somewhat limited in terms of what we can do on design, user experience, etc. But, the SEO is all still easy to tweak and we've been working on it for some time now. As of July 5th, their keyword rankings have dropped dramatically (we're talking from first page rankings to nothing, according to Authority Labs), and they've fallen completely off the map in the SERPs. Their local listing doesn't appear in search results anymore, and WMT is showing a drastic drop in impressions (from 457 on July 3rd to 92 on July 5th). There have been no manual penalties on the site, no recent major development work done, and from what I can see, no signs of hacking and no bad backlinks. The only thing I can see is that Mozcast showed an 83 degree day with some clouds and rain on July 5th, the day that our rankings dropped off, but I can't find any documentation showing what might have changed. Any insight as to what might be going on? I'm completely stumped!

Rankings dropped overnight
We have been doing some optimization for a client. They were not ranked for many keywords before we started, and up until last week 10 were on page 1, with the the last few following closely behind. Everything was moving in the right direction. In this weeks ranking report every one has dropped significantly and some 30 places in one week. We have made no significant changes to the site in the last few weeks. The only issue we picked up on was the slow site speed on their current host 1&1. Any ideas what could have caused the site to have lost ground on all rankings so significantly?

Changing page titles and google penalties?
I just recently learned that changing your page title earns you a google penalty. Unfortunately i learned this after playing around with my page titles a bit to get the most optimal page titles. Does anybody know how long this google penalty lasts? is it forever? or just temporary?

Sister Sites or Joint Family?
A large News Media Group has a Tv Channel, print newspaper, radio channel (for music primarly) and an online website that includes the newspaper content and other original content in different media. My question is, is it better to have independant websites for these different mediums or have all the content on one big website. Currently the newspaper and blog are online as one whereas the radio channel has its own website and the television has its own. So should we maintain sister sites and cross link to each other or have one big happy family under one house? Best, Rishad.
