Duplicate Content on Category Pages
-
Hi Everyone,
I have a few category pages within a category for my eCommerce store and I've recently started writing a short description for each. However a lot of these paragraphs can be replicated for the same category. For instance '1 Inch thickness' I'll show all the information, and it'll be very similar to '2 inch thickness' but obviously one is 1 inch and one is 2 inch so I would only be changing one keyword and that is the thickness.
I feel that this is helping customers because it has all the information in each category e.g. how to filter your choices. But it might be duplicate content.
What would you recommend?

Hi Rachel,
Thank you for clarifying that for me. If you are creating multiple categories and they only have one keyword to separate them would be considered duplicate content by Google my answer would yes it would. That's why you have to make your descriptions much different than the existing descriptions for any other categories.
I know it is hard using a different description when one might be the perfect fit. However Google does care about this thing and it would lead to duplicate content issues.
I hope this has been of help sincerely,
Thomas

I don't think you are understanding my question, I am creating descriptions for different categories that only have one different keyword. I want to make sure this isn't considered duplicate content, and if it is, what should I do?

What type of content management system are you using? If it's WordPress Yoast WordPress SEO would fix this issue.
http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/
or
magento
http://yoast.com/articles/magento-seo/
Let me know if you're using a different content management system as I can offer different ways of helping.
Duplicate content will simply be ignored unfortunately by Google. Will not get ranking you want. The important thing to do is to write very very different descriptions of your product especially keep it far away from what manufacturer uses as their domain trust is probably higher than what your stores is using. Scribecontent.com is excellent tool for this. Another method is to use yoast to fix magento or WP
Sincerely,
Thomas

Positioning H1 and H2 tags adjacent on a page without content in between
Is it best practice to separate H1 and H2 tags with P tag or other content, or is it ok to have H1 and H2 adjacent without content in between?

How does Indeed.com make it to the top of every single search despite of having aggregated content or duplicate content
How does Indeed.com make it to the top of every single search despite of having duplicate content. I mean somewhere google says they will prefer original content & will give preference to them who have original content but this statement contradict when I see Indeed.com as they aggregate content from other sites but still rank higher than original content provider side. How does Indeed.com make it to the top of every single search despite of having aggregated content or duplicate content

Duplicate content, which seems not to be duplicate :S
After crawling I am used to getting a lot of duplicate content messages in Moz, which are High Priority. I do not know what to do with them, since I believe we tackled all the issues. Main point being the advise to put in a link rel=canonical. An example of a page that accordeing to the report has a duplicate. I do not see how. Can you help with that? http://www.beat-it.nl/4y6hctr24x7wdmr-ml350-p-ic-procaresvc.html duplicate sample http://www.beat-it.nl/modu-hp-a5800-acm-for-64-256-aps.html

Recommended Length for a Companies "Services" Page Content
I am in the process of revamping my company's website. I do WordPress Development, Design, and SEO consulting, and i'm running into a sort of writer's block when wring my services pages. For example, my page on WordPress Security has 388 words of "body" content, and I feel from a content perspective, it serves it's purpose, but from an SEO perspective it is considered a little light. I really don't know what the SOP is here, because, I've literally seen competitors sites have a page on "WordPress Security" rank on the first page of Google with absolutely no content, an empty page. I see a lot of the Moz posts are huge, thosands of words, and I know they perform very well (and they also have ton's of links / PR...etc) and I just want to do the right thing. I know sites like http://www.seerinteractive.com/our-services/search-engine-optimization have relatively short info pages as well. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Is This Duplicate Content Hurting Our SERPs?
We sell 1000s of audio book title, many of which are published in more than one format (abridged, unabridged CD, and/or unabridged MP3) by the same publisher. Currently each title has its own page but the basic description of the title (story) is the same. Here is an example title that is offered in three formats. 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - abridged CD audiobook 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - MP3 CD audiobook 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - CD audiobook Each of the above pages has a different page title, a different URL, a different meta description however much of the body (from [Listen to a FREE Audio Clip] down is the same. How do you see a list of URLs with duplicate page titles?
When looking at the Duplicate Page Title report, the Other URLs column has various numbers that presumably indicate the number of pages that share the same title. When I click on one of these numbers, say a URL that shows 4 in that column, the next page reports "No sample duplicate URLs to report". Why isn't it showing me the other 3 URLs with the same page title?
