Switching Hosting Company - bringing hosting closer to our website
-
Hi,
we are a Belgian company running .be websites and our current hosting company is based in Norway.
Is there any SEO benefit in transferring our .be websites to a hosting company based in Belgium? -
Just to add.
I believe the advise was, if you have a .au, .uk or in your case .be, they its not a problem. but if you have a .com then server location may be used. that's just from memory.
-
No, I have seen those videos and that was my belief up until a year or 2 ago, when I saw this contradicted, either in a video or a article, now with cloud hosting many people host outside there own geo area. I cant find the video/article but I was led to believe that the TLD is the important thing. That video is 2009.

Hi Alan,
tx for your answer.
I checked one off matt cutts' videos, and this particular one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keIzr3eWK8I states that location of the webhost has some significance for ranking. Is it this you are referring too?
-
I say no, I believe mat cutts has said the same. its the tld that is important .be.
Having said that site speed is important for ranking in search engines as well as conversions and user satisfaction.
I recommend Microsoft Azure for hosting, both windows and Linux, well priced and easy to use, and great performance.

I am based in the UK and i am always being told to use a UK hosting company as it will be better for the site, seo and speed, but the problem i have is finding a good company in the UK that can do everything that a company in the USA are doing.
If you can find a good hosting company near to your home then i would go for it.

Biggest benefit is lowest latency time - however its in micro seconds which can improve user experience if your traffic is mainly from Belgium
Also, A minor experience of slight increase in SERP has heard of from couple of my business associates who have migrated there hosting to there own country - though no direct co-relation of gain in SERP Rankings been heard of.

Redirecting M Dot Mobile Website to Responsive Design Website Questions
Hi amazing Moz community 🙂 Couldn't find this question anywhere, and knew this was the place to ask! We are helping a client redirect an M Dot website to a Responsive Design website. We want to retain our mobile rankings for keywords. Three questions - We should use 301 redirects from the M Dot website to the new website correct? (not 302s?) How long does it take for Google to understand that we have launched a responsive website? Can we remove the 301 redirects after a few days (if the M Dot website interferes/breaks the new Responsive website)? We have verified an account on Google Search Console for the M Dot website, along with a mobile sitemap that has been submitted and verified. What should we do with this M Dot GSC account? Just delete it? Or keep it and upload the NEW XML Sitemap with the new WWW links (because the website is responsive). THANK YOU!

SEO transfer to new website
My website currently has some strong SEO and i will be re-developing the website on a wordpress platform...which will change many of the existing URL. Will this affect the current pages that are well indexed in Google? Does using Wordpress or changing the URL extension (.html to .php) make a difference? If i want to make a clean transition without effecting our existing SEO...what are some essential steps i need to take? Example. Current page is www.mydomain.com/name.html .... and the new URL would be www.mydomain.com/product/name.php Thanks

Using author on every page of website?
I'm currently get to grips with schema and one thing im using is author on my blog posts and seeing my photo etc on organic searches which are related. I see one of my competitors is using author on every page on their website, not just blog posts etc. Are there any recommendation when it should be used? Should it be site wide or is it really intended for blog posts etc? Would it be wrong for me to use on every page of my website as one of my businesses is myself as a lone person? This is what you get when searching for driving lessons in just about any town! https://www.google.co.uk/#gs_rn=15&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=LS_DOrAHswmHC9_8AJZEJA&suggest=p&pq=driving instructor brighton&cp=20&gs_id=1k2&xhr=t&q=driving+lessons+crawley&es_nrs=true&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&oq=driving+lessons+craw&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47244034,d.d2k&fp=45c2f917e11bca99&biw=1680&bih=843 Any comments welcome! Hi Mozers One of our client wanted to add a NEWS section in to their website. Where they want to share the latest industry news from other news websites. I tried my maximum to understand them about the duplicate content issues. But they want it badly What I am planning is to add rel=canonical from each single news post to the main source websites ie, What you guys think? Does that affect us in any ways?

Should I Host New Blog On Different Server?
I am planning on starting a new blog focused on a very specific subject that is related to my current Lead Generation website. I am doing this because I want to build rankings for this site and have it link back to my Lead Generation website to increase its rankings (this is the main purpose). My question is do I need to host it on another server so Google will not see it as having the same IP or Subnet? Note: I already have one blog linked to my Lead Generation website under the same domain. This new blog would be linked to an entirely different domain.
