Question about the Playback Locations report in YouTube Analytics
-
We have several hundred YouTube videos. In the Playback Report section in YouTube analytics, I can see a list of sites where people have viewed our videos. Some of the sites listed are competitors. The report does not show the URL of the page where the video is embedded.
Is there a way to find this information?
I have already tried using Google to search for the URL, but I'm thinking this isn't going to search the source code and the video URL isn't going to appear on the page anywhere.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks Phil. Excellent suggestion. I hadn't thought of using the reference URL in OSE. That should work great.

Hi Dana,
to be honest, I've just always found it quickest and simplest to use advanced search operators to find out which page it's on, by referencing words I expect to be cited around the videos.
E.g. site:moz.com Distilled video
If you're trying to do it more at scale, you could use OSE/Majestic with the URL referenced in the YouTube iframe code and then match these up using a vlookup in excel Googledocs.

Hi Angelos,
Yes, if I select individual videos I can see the site it is embedded on, but not the specific URL. I am attaching a screenshot as an example for this particular video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adxvLifTuuQ I have circled two instances that show the playback location is on a competitor's Website. However, the only location given is the competitor's domain, not the actual URL where the video may be embedded.
I thought maybe if I exported the report that the URLs might show up there, but no luck.
Anyone else have any ideas about how to get this information? Thanks Angelos!

Hey there Dana,
To make it clear, you cannot find the url within the Youtubes Analytics panel? I guess you already know that if you chose single videos you can see where it had been embedded. Sorry if my answer is totally wrong
not that good with videos

Why is our website ranked lower but beats most competitors in full SERP report?
We are analysing why our website ranks so low (currently position 8 in serp). We beat our competitors in most areas. Also we produce by far the most useful content. Do not buy links or do any other malpractice. We have been for a long time ranked in top 3 (well mostly 1-2) positions. In the last year we have seen a decline to position 8-10 and we are not sure why this is the case. Can anyone suggest what we should be focusing on? We are clueless. All the practices we used to "know" now seem obsolete. m8qIeyC,Kf1LLei#0

Can an https: impact (not provided) keywords in Google Analytics? Meaning if I make my site https: will it provide any more keywords. If not how can I get this data?
I have a site that I'd love to have more keyword data on. Can making my site an https: site give me more keyword data than leaving my site an http: site? Thanks!

SEO ranking question
Hey, If a site for had a series of articles, and had the privilege of guest posting on several sites, such as mashable, entrepreuner.com, inc.com, and a few other not as big sites. and let us also say that this site is new and currently has pagerank of 0. How would the above benefit the site and the visibility of the articles on google? Also, with guest-posting, is it problematic to have the exact article also on your site? thanks in advance!

Business has single location but serves six state region
Hi all, looking for strategies to optimize for a company that has one office but serves the entire six state New England region. Their keywords tend to be highly competitive, i.e. fire damage cleanup, fire damage repair, fire damage restoration, water damage cleanup, water damage repair, etc. Their competitors that rank well tend to be franchise operations such as Servpro and Paul Davis Restoration. Often several different geographic franchisees for the same franchisor appear for the same search term and ostensibly compete among themselves. In these cases they are serving boilerplate websites differentiated by "Company name of this area" or "Company name of that area". We are beginning a local citation initiative. Is it possible local strength could dilute regional strength? In some of my research on the topic I've read suggestions that companies in this situation optimize with local partners or affiliates in the other states. This company dispatches their own personnel and does not work with partners or have affiliates to speak of. Thanks for reading this. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Important link building question for me!
Hi, When building backlinks how important is the location of where the website resides? For example, if I was targeting a search term in Google UK, will link building from websites hosted on UK servers have a higher positive impact on rankings then building links from websites hosted on US servers? Lets say in the above UK hosted is better, what if you have 2 websites hosted in the UK but one with .com and one with .co.uk, I take it from a domain point of view the .co.uk will have a better impact on SERP's then the .com. Now looking at the above from a more wider scale lets say I have the following: A .co.uk website aimed at a search term in Google UK. Example: 1. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the US with .com extension. 2. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the UK with .co.uk extension. Is it a FACT that number 2 will 100% be more beneficial in UK rankings? Cheers

Question about Keywords & Ranking
I hope this isn't too basic of a question, but I am confused about something. If you use the Keyword Research tool and type in "Stained Concrete Flooring", the 3rd result (stainedconcrete.org) has the lowest numbers of any of the sites in the top 8-10... Is it because they have a large amount of traffic? or is there some other factor that I am missing?

Crazy SEO question (maybe I'm missing something?)
OK - so one of our customers just called us and told us an interesting story: A local SEO company called her yesterday to try to sell their services to her. She's in the process of starting SEO services with us, so she told them she wasn't interested. The sales guy told her that they were better (without even asking who she was currently using) and asked her for a term that she'd like to rank higher for. She said she'd like to rank higher for "spray in bedliners northern ky" and he said "Gotcha, call you tomorrow" He called back just now and told her to look at Google. She's now ranking number one for that term. He didn't have access to her site, so he wasn't able to change anything on her site. He won't tell her what he did, and told her it was legitimate - but it seems to me that with only off-site tactics, it'd be nearly impossible to white-hat her site to number one overnight... Any ideas what he's doing? First of all, we want to be able to tell her what he's doing, because she's curious. More importantly, we want to be sure he's not doing anything black-hat that's going to hurt our client's site. Thanks for your help, Mozzers!
