Using meta keywords
-
Hello,
I've read conflicting opinions regarding the use of meta keywords. I know Matt Cutts stated a few years ago that Google does not use them as a ranking signal but many still use them.
This raises a few questions:
1. Is there any reason to still use meta keywords?
2. Isn't it just a way to let your competitors know what you're optimizing for?
3. How do other search engines treat meta keywords?
Thanks!

Hi,

Yes/No, it is true the meta keywords are not used by the BIG search engines such as Bing, Google, Yahoo, Ask but what do we know about the smaller engines? People are still using them for small engines that still uses meta keywords and might still be passing them traffic. For example, I believe Baidu (China search engines) still uses meta keyword. I may be outdated on that.

Yes, true but even without the meta keywords, competitors can tell from your URL, Title tag, and content of the page. Nothing to hide in the SEO world.

Like what I said in #1, BIG engines don't use it or just ignores it. Actually, for News websites, Google allows them to use meta keywords; however, with certain restrictions. You can read more about here http://searchengineland.com/google-announces-news-keywords-metatag-133759
Hope this helps.

Not really.

Yes. Actually, competitors can just ignore your KW field and look at your title tag to see what you are focused on or see what you rank for. So the answer is actually No, or maybe sort of, but not really.

Like a red headed step child
Yahoo uses Bing results, Bing back in 2011 stated
"Duane Forrester, senior product manager for Bing webmaster outreach, provided this advice about the tag: I’ll make this statement: meta keywords is a signal. One of roughly a thousand we analyze. Getting it right is a nice perk for us, but won’t rock your world. Abusing meta keywords can hurt you."
Cheers!

What Tools Should I Use To Investigate Damage to my website
I would like to know what tools I should use and how to investigate damage to my website in2town.co.uk I hired a person to do some work to my website but they damaged it. That person was on a freelance platform and was removed because of all the complaints made about them. They also put in backdoors on websites including mine and added content. I also had a second problem where my content was being stolen. My site always did well and had lots of keywords in the top five and ten, but now they are not even in the top 200. This happened in January and feb. When I write unique articles, they are not showing in Google and need to find what the problem is and how to fix it. Can anyone please help

Keyword Density Clarification, Please
Does keyword density only account for the content-based text on the page or everything that can be crawled on the page? To illustrate, I'll use this forum page and the keyword Moz. Here's my incredibly short blog post: "Moz forum is very helpful, but I still can't figure out Moz analytics." Now, in terms of keyword density, is "Moz" only being counted twice for the times I mentioned it in my post (what I'm calling content-based text) or is "Moz" being counted 40-50 times for all the places it appears on this page. Thanks, Ruben

Is it needed to use http:// or not?
Hi, When doing link building and getting my URL to other websites, is it necessary that the other websites include http:// before the domain? Example: I want to increase the number of links to my site www.example.com . When I ask other websites to add a link to my site, should I ask them to use http://www.example.com or is www.example.com enough (without http://)? Or it really does not matter? Thanks in advance, Sam

Using category pages in Wordpress
In our niche we have one main keyword, which represents the entire category. We are using wordpress. I am trying to understand the best URL structure and wonder if the below is a good approach: http://domain.com/keyword This category page will be written to contain an article on the subject. The posts that are put into that category will subsequently appear on this page, below that article. Each of those posts would be targeting a related keyword. e.g. I would write a post which has, as the main target keyword: "MainKeyword training" and another post, which would be targeting "MainKeyword techniques" ... (and so on). Thanks for your advice. Andrew

Keyword ranking not moving
Hello, We have a very important keyword for our website (www.decorplanet.com) that hasn't moved in any direction in over a year. The keyword is "bathroom vanities". Our current SEO company has told us that the previous company has "over- optimized/linked" for this particular keyword and now Google is penalizing us for this. They told us that we need to leave it alone for a while and concentrate on other keywords and this one should naturally come back up (I should mention that at some point, we were much higher than where we are right now for that particular keyword). Many of our other high-profile keywords have been moving nicely to the first page. Keywords like "modern bathroom vanities", "antique bathroom vanities", "contemporary bathroom vanities", but the one that we really want ("bathroom vanities") hasn't budged at all. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Is it possible that Google put us in some sort of a "sand-box" - I mean we are on page 2 so it doesn't sound like that's the case. It's just very bizarre that we can't seem to do anything with this keyword. Really appreciate any thoughts or input on this.
