Other than the homepage, what other pages need linkbuilding TLC?
-
With my linkbuilding efforts, I know what keywords I want to target but my homepage ranks for most of my keywords. The other pages were written and built for specific keywords, but do they need linkbuilding TLC? They don't rank in the SERPs much anyway (if not at all) and the homepage is by-far the strongest in the SERPs.

No problem, Jessica! Glad you found the information helpful.
One last point. Depending on your site design, you may have an opportunity to pass some of your home page's ranking power to your most important landing pages by linking to them from the home page. For example, we have persistent links on our home page to our top 10 games, games that convert new visitors very well, and game genres. While part of this is user experience oriented, a lot of it is also to pass on the home page's ranking power to those pages we want to rank well on the SERPs.
The links on your home page shouldn't be random. Think strategically about what you link to from your home page.

Why can't I double thumb-up this?! haha - thanks, Ryan. I appreciate the step-by-step advice.

Good point with the percentages! Thanks, Mike.

The pages that need links are the pages that drive (or should drive) value for your business.
Take a look at the keywords your are building content for. Hopefully you can rank those keywords based on the revenue potential. Next, look at where the best pages for each keyword are currently ranking. Finally, ascertain the overall competitive landscape for those keywords.
What you are looking for is high revenue potential + low rankings + reasonable competitive landscape. Build links into those pages.
Furthermore, is it possible your other pages aren't ranking well because they are not properly optimized for the keywords you want them to rank for? Have you surveyed the content on the page, the URL structure, the title tag, etc.?

If you want the other pages to rank for the keywords they were optimized (on-page) for then you will need to do some external link building to each of the other pages (with appropriate anchor text for each).
When I've looked at the link profile of other sites and compared the number of external links that point to the home page vs internal pages, it looks like about 40-70% of external links point to the home page. Meaning, 30-60% of a site's links point to its sub-pages. Sometimes this is because the sub-pages have awesome content that people have chosen to link to, and other times it's because the webmaster has done standard link building exercises for the important sub-pages (guest blogging, article marketing, etc) that she/he wants to rank in the SERPs.

Should I remove backlink from templated page?
Hi, I manage 2 websites; website A and website B. Both websites are hosted on the same webserver. Website A is significantly more established than Website B with a better domain authority and much netter keyword rankings. I have a backlink from website A to Website B. The link is do-follow and is in a sidebar template that appears on just about every page of website A. Also, this template is used in nearly all of the subdomains of website A for a total of 1,362 pages. It occurs to me that Google might see this as unnatural. I am considering removing this link from the template and adding it to the content of the landing page so that we have only one link from Website A to Website B. It seems rational to me but I'd like a second opinion, please. Thanks in advance.

Do you need a place to ditch bad links?
This is not a question as such, more a gift 🙂 I have registered a domain name to ditch bad links. For example, let's pretend I have a page on my site: www.mydomain.com/viagra and have never done any good SEO to promote this page, just a load of spammy directory links. The page used to rank for Viagra but then Google took manual action and I lost my ranking. Booo! Now the page is of no use to me until I get all these links removed and the manual action revoked. Even then, I'll be starting from scratch re-building good links to the page. Here's another option, simply re-direct the url to badlinksbin.com and say goodbye to all those spammy links. This bypasses the lengthy link removal process. Warning: I wouldn't recommend using this method if you have some good links in the mix, unless you can contact the site owners and get the links changed. And, don't forget to change the name of the url first so the Viagra page still exists on your site. As I've already set this up, I thought no harm sharing it and letting you guys use it too. I hope it helps some people.

What should be the ration of inbound link between Home page and Internal pages?
What should be the ration of inbound link between Home page and Internal pages? And also wanted to clear my doubt, suppose My website is related to Technology niche with different technologies like PHP, Java etc. Is this better idea to submit internal PHP page link in PHP related directories? Although I know that in the most of the directories have very large number of categories.

Does anyone do seo on their twitter pages
Hi, i am just wondering if anyone does any seo or anything with their twitter page to gain more followers. I have justover 19,000 followers and since launching the twitter account we are getting about 500 followers per week and i am just wondering if there is anything we should do to improve this. I am not sure if we should be putting keywords into our twitter page or anything else to let people know about our twitter page. any advice would be great. also, when we set up our twitter page we decided to use the following twitter name @2celebritynews just wondering if you are allowed to change this at any stage as we should really have got the twitter page of @in2town if it is not possible to change it then maybe we will need to start over again

More "new" root domains or more pages on older domains?
I have been slowly building links via personal/professional networking, press from art shows, blogging, and such. I work with several non related domains & local blogs & press outlets, it is pretty easy for me to add a few new pages of content along with text links. Or should I just concentrate on getting links from totally "new" domains that have never linked to me before?

Make a new page or more links to existing page for 2nd keyword?
We have a page optimized for 'blue widgets'. We rank in organic spot #3 or 4 for that (moves around from week to week). Fairly happy with that. We have another derivative term 'blue widgets small' (example, but it's same format: <original phrase="">+ <single word="">) where we currently rank #6 organic in Google when people search on the 3 word phrase.</single></original> We'd like to rank higher than #6 for the 3 word phrase. Should we: (1) Build a bunch of links with anchor text equal to the 3 word phrase and point to the existing page (which is optimized on-page for the first 2 of the 3 words) or (2) Make a new page optimized for the 3 word phrase and then start building links to it with anchor text equal to the 3 words (and non-cannibalizing variants of the 3 words)? The 2 word phrase is pretty competitive and it has taken us months to get that page to be #3 or 4 organic for that phrase. The 3 word phrase is much less competitive and we don't think it would take that long to make a dedicated page rank higher than #6 for the 3 words. Suggestions? Thanks.

Linkbuilding TO Your Guest Blog Post?
Hypothetical situation: You write a guest blog post for a popular blog about your niche topic. The post is a hit and sends you visitors, leads, and social media followers. Would you consider running a linkbuilding campaign to the blog post in order to help it rank better for its target keyword(s), given that the post has proven to convert successfully, despite the fact that the post is on a domain other than your own?
