Adding Photos vs Page Speed
-
I need to add more photos to our site, since I believe it'd be a better user experience, but I don't want our page speed to slow down. Is there an optimal size or quality photo parameters that work best for this? If so, is there a site or service someone would recommend over photobucket to get them?
Thanks,
Ruben

We run on wordpress. The WP Smush.it plugin sounds like just the thing we need. Thanks!

Hi Ruben
Before you begin, you want to be sure that you have the permission to use or re-use any photos. Thought that was worth mentioning.
A .jpg is a good file extension to use, as you'll barely lose photo quality over a .png, which is much larger. As for dimensions, try and pick the best dimensions for where the image will be. I believe in focusing on the best user experience here, so go with what you thinks best.
A further step, which I think is vital, is to losslessly compress the images you want. This process removes the unecessary bytes in images, reducing file size and subsequent page load speed, without compromising the quality of the image. The online Yahoo Smush.it tool works great for this, or if you're running Wordpress the WP Smush.it plugin will compress all the images you upload for you.
As for where to host the image, you're fine to use your own server but if you want or need to externally host images, I don't think there's a quicker or easier service to use than Imgur.
Hope this helps.

On-page Local SEO
I'm wondering how to pull it off on-page local SEO for a financial institution website with 70 locations. However, they are broken in down in regions, which would make it easier to get our hands around. Would a viable solution be setting up regional pages? I don't know about our CMS capability, but it seems like it would be beneficial to have on each regional page aggregate local-centric press releases (example: a volunteer event or recognition) and local announcements such as paper shred days. Thoughts? Anyone else posed with a similar challenge?

Google+ Business Page Location Problem
I run a business in the St. Louis area. Oddly, St. Louis is broken up into more than 100 municipalities. Google keeps listing my plus page by the small municipality I am in within St. Louis, which limits my ability to show up in the St. Louis local search results. However, other businesses in town are being listed under St. Louis instead of their municipality. Any ideas on how to change this? When I go in and try to change it myself, it just stays the same. Thanks, Steve

My worst performing pages all have this /products/ URL structure...?
I rank first for my brand "example" on example.com But my product pages simply don't rank. Frankly, I don't know where they rank, but it's not top 40. They are indexed, as searching "site:example.com" returns all my site's pages. My product pages are outranked even by some of my shorter blog posts about the product. My product pages are the only ones on the site that use a folder/directory in the url. example.com**/products/**product-one is nowhere but this is the main product page. example.com/short-blog-article-about-product-one. Is the fact that the product pages are with the slashes a red herring and I should be looking for anther cause? Or is google saying, well these product pages are the only ones in these sort of path and therefore we'll treat them as secondary sources? Thanks

Multiple domains vs. Single domain
I've been reading up on this subject, but I still can't clearly decide which is better. Your insights will help me a lot. I work for a client with 1 powerful corporate website and many small dedicated websites to individual projects. Which strategy would I focus on? The powerful corporate or the small individual websites? As I see it: Which is better? One powerful domain with lots of pages dedicated to a single subject PRO: more inbound links, more pages, sometimes URL exact match CON: less focused on a single 'theme' Different domains dedicated to different subjects PRO: more focus per domain to a subject CON: less inbound links, less pages... less power Thanks in advance.
