How is it possible that this site has a higher page authority than my site?
-
Judging by open site explorer, I'm crushing my competitor in every imaginable way. And yet, somehow they have a higher page authority than me and, consequently, are ranking higher than me. How is this possible? My site is on the left:
-
That's interesting, and thanks for the insight on that ratio. I had a feeling the quality of the links might be playing a factor. I have one sight sending me literally thousands of links, and even though the site is very high authority, and I'm paying them top dollar, I'm beginning to suspect the link juice coming from that site is not good.
-
Hmm, are both domains roughly the same age and authority? Also, there might be a collection of additional page or domain factors that your competitor is excelling at but don't appear on most SEO analysis tools. To try to identify some potential ways the competitor site might be gaining an advantage, try checking this infographic for some less often looked at ranking factors.

That makes sense. They're definitely beating me on domain authority. So I guess I just need to get more quality links to more pages on my website.
-
Thanks Chris. Strange thing is: I received a B for the keyword I'm being out-ranked on, and my competitor received an F.
-
Scott,
I'm not sure if its the right answer but here is what we found.
Our compitation out ranks us at times as well, so we did some research into the ratio MozT/MozR in your case 5.42/4.38=1.23744 your compeditors MozT/MozR is 5.37/4.23=1.2695
So their ratio is much higher than yours which we presume means that somone may have more links but their just junk links as shown by the ratio. You can see this ratio come into play at MOZ Tools rank checker.
We will kill John Deere in everything but still rank lower because of their MozT/MozR ratio.

Hi Scott,
Though a good guide for how well your page is building rank, the open site explorer is not going to tell you how well you are optimizing on-page for your desired keywords. It is possible that your competitor is out-optimizing you in terms of on-page efforts. Check the On Page Keyword Grader to make sure you are doing everything you can on the page to help you rank for your desired keywords.
Hope this helps,
Chris Wilson

What are the domain authorities of the two sites? If that page is on a domain with higher authority, though it has fewer external and internal links, the internal links the page does have may be passing higher amounts of authority.

Drop in Domain Authority
Hi there, Our domain Authority has dropped significantly from 26 to 19 over the last month. This had been fairly stable over the previous 18 months. We haven't done any significant work to the website that I could point to. Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? Any recent Google Updates that could be the cause? Regards Andy

Will adjusted bounce rate affect avg time on page?
I recently read Rob Beirne's piece on how and why to set up an adjusted bounce rate in Google Analytics (https://moz.com/blog/adjusted-bounce-rate). I am getting myself ready to talk to our site team about why we should set up an adjusted bounce rate and am anticipating some questions I'd like to be able to answer: 1. Will an adjusted bounce rate improve the accuracy of our avg time on page metrics? 2. Are we able to keep the unadjusted bounce rate in GA as well, so we can compare the two metrics if we ever need to? Does anyone know the answers to these questions? Any help would be much appreciated!

Any idea why this page is an absolute magnet for bots?
This page on our client's website seems to be an absolute magnet for bots, and it's skewing our Google Analytics stats: https://cbisonline.com/us/catholic-socially-responsible-esg-investing/proxy-voting/ We already filter out lots of bots in GA, primarily through a segment we created several years ago and continue to build upon, but plenty of spam traffic still manages to slip through – mostly to the page above. Last quarter, almost all of it came from two random cities in Europe, so we're going to filter out traffic from those places. (At least for now – not an ideal solution, I know.) But I'm really wondering what drives so many bots to that page in particular. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

How do sites without access to a site's analytical data, determine a site's organic traffic?
I've recently used a organic traffic checker that showed you your traffic compared to each google algo update. I was interested in how they derived the organic traffic totals for each month, without having access to our site's google analytics? I've since compared the data to historical google analytics data and it's not wrong, isn't 100% match either but isn't far from fact. So if they're predicting or making a guess, it's rather spot on, site crawlers and SERPs snapshots only provide so much info, I'm just wondering where they get the rest from and how?

My GA code is on my site but Google Analytics isn't being pulled into SEOMoz...why?
The CEO wants me to present an SEO plan next week for three of our sites; however, I got this message when I went to campaign overview tab: "It appears there's a problem with our connection to your Google Analytics account. Please go to your Settings page to update your connection." I double-checked the GA code and it's the same on both our site and in SEOMoz...what gives? I clicked on Choose Your GA Profile->Set GA Account and Profile then got this warning: "Are you sure you want to change your Google Analytics connection? Changing your connection will reset our cache of your historical GA traffic data." I need this data pronto so I can set strategy for three sites; any help would be greatly appreciated! Darrell

No Link Data Available for this URL appears often. Are my sites too small to show up?
I am on the trial until Mar 5, 2012. I seldom get the info I want. Is it because my sites are too narrow a niche? I don't seem to be getting the data I'd like from your service. I'm trying to like it, but when I keep getting messages like this, it makes it hard to justify: "No Link Data Available for this URL appears often" Sample sites that I am unable to get data. I especially would like to know how many backlinks exist for each site. I paid someone to help me with them and I'd like to verify their work.: http://costaricadentistreview.com/ http://costaricadentistreviews.com/ http://costaricadentalimplants.org Any suggestions? Thanx Kurt Gross
