CDN image links passing SEO benefit?
-
We used a CDN to host all of the images on our site, and the paths are such:
http://cdn.onedirection.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/harry-styles-tongue5.jpgFrequently we get a lot of other websites using our images, which we're fine with, but I would like to know if we get any SEO value from these image links? Interestingly they do appear in the "Just Discovered" section of OSE.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hey Chris,
If your domain is onedirection.net and people are linking to your images on cdn.onedirection.net you are seeing some benefit, just not as much as if they were on onedirection.net root domain. If that's the case that's why they are coming up in your Just Discovered links.
If however cdn.onedirection.net is your CDN completely irrespective of your domain and your site is on another domain like justinbieber.com then nope you won't get any link equity from that.

no, I wold have thought they were outgoing links

Thanks for your reply Alan.
Do you have any idea why Moz would list them as incoming links in OSE?
-
I cant see any SEO benefit, if the images were on your own domain, then there might be.
this is my opinion, I believe there is a pagerank for images, at least that google keeps some sort of record of whos linking to what image. not only are these people not linking to your domain rather to the CDN domain, you are linking to the CDN domain also. I would rather host the images myself and not be linking out and have others linking to me.
I host at Microsoft Azure, if you host in the cloud there is no advantage to having a cdn as you already have good bandwidth.

Embedding videos for SEO
What is the best practice for having videos on a website in terms of increasing SEO? Embedding YouTube videos is probably the easiest solution, but does that help with SEO? The other options would be to use a third party or build one. What have other people found to be the best option? Thanks!

Local SEO: Specific pointers on how to improve my campaign
Hello, I changed my address midstream in my campaign, from spelling out "Suite H" to now it's #H. Wow, what a cleanup job. I'm in at least 3 dozen directories I've found, and it looks like there are more. I'm adding myself to all the main directories that yext lists here. I've also used whitespark for a couple of months. My site is here. The term I'm targeting is "Boise Weight Loss. I"m on page 3 and not in the local results. Could you guys give me some pointers on how to get up into the top 3 of the local results? I'm planning on cleaning up and adding directories. I don't know how many I'll need, and of course I am looking for pointers on the other factors (besides citations) as well. Thanks!

When do I use no-follow links to interlink on my own site?
Hi Mozzers, When would I ever want to use no-follow links when interlinking pages on my site? The more authority being passed around, the better, right? Does it save or conserve page rank / authority from being transferred to pages you don't necessarily need it on? Thanks!

Tips for local link building?
Hello Mozzers, Working on a site that has locations around the country and is targeting words like "city name+long tail keyword". They're fairly well optimized on-site, so we're working on recommending localized content but could use some advice for link building. Beyond Google places, what have you guys seen that works?

[local seo] How to compete against e.g. yellowpages on Google Rank 1 - 4?
Hi Folks, How to compete against the big SEO-powered pages like Yellowpages in the SERPs? I mean, they have thousands of Rd -> Rd Links as well as super Page and Domain Authority. How has a let's say Dentist or Electrician a decent chance to compete against those? Does Google give credit to them because of the Content they have on their page? These yellowpages totally take the fun out of it for my clients. Answeres would really much appreciated. Thank you. For me it feels like Don Quijote.
