How valuable or not is javascript linkback from a competitor?
-
A sector competitor has decided to link to me using the method[](javascript:OpenLink('http://www.example.com'))
[It's a contextually rich page and the link is in the body surrounded by relevant text although not so high in the code](javascript:OpenLink('http://www.example.com'))
[Moz Metrics of the page/domain linking to me are:
PA 30 mR 2.67 mT4.61
21 links from 9 root domains
Root Domain DA 88 DmR 6.77 DmT 6.68 2.6m links from 24k domainsIs the method of linking to me strictly from an SEO perspective:
A. Positive
B. Neutral
C. NegativeThanks!](javascript:OpenLink('http://www.example.com'))

Contrary to Theo I'd say: A. Positive
Pretty sure Google has been following js open links for many years now. I'd be reasonably confident of saying even if you did something tricky like href="javascript:CleverFunction('http://example.com')" and CleverFunction was designed to add nofollow/ open in new window, that Google would still be able to follow it from the url within the href.
You could quite easily set up a test for a page that only has a link like this pointing to it and see if it gets indexed.
The only thing I might not be totally sure of is if it passes juice, but I think as of mid 2009 it does (as I'm sure Google no longer endorsed js links as a method for preserving link juice).

B. Neutral
Pretty much the answer I've landed on by excluding the other two. Because this link is Javascript based and the engines are to my knowledge not following these kind of links (please correct me if I'm wrong), it won't give you any positive value. Giving that you're not doing anything illegal or bad, I don't see how this could affect your website's SEO negatively either. Thus, I would say that B best describes the value of this link from an SEO perspective.

Why our competitor with lower DR and PA outranks us in Google?
Hi everyone, I really don't understand why our competitor with lower DR and PA outranks us in Google.lv (Google Latvia). Below is a screenshot showing that our company takes #2 for the following keyword "gāzes baloni" in Google. Our DR is 24 and our PA is: 26, whereas our competitors DR is 23 and their PA is 19. The content on our page is much better too - we have clear Title, description, Q&A section etc, whereas our competitor has very limited content, just photos of the product and titles. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance. PYNPLNw i1lp4QI NriO6O4

Google No Longer Respecting Javascript Titles & Metas
We implemented title tags and meta descriptions for one of our clients using a GTM and some JS / jQuery. It's been working well for months. Rankings started dropping and nothing had been changed. We tore our hair out. I finally noticed that Google doesn't show our titles/descripts in the SERPs anymore. So I double checked in the developer console that everything was working ok, and you can even see our title in the browser tab. Anyone else see this or have any ideas? Thanks!

My Homepage Won't Load if Javascript is Disabled. Is this an SEO/Indexation issue?
Hi everyone, I'm working with a client who recently had their site redesigned. I'm just going through to do an initial audit to make sure everything looks good. Part of my initial indexation audit goes through questions about how the site functions when you disable, javascript, cookies, and/or css. I use the Web Developer extension for Chrome to do this. I know, more recently, people have said that content loaded by Javascript will be indexed. I just want to make sure it's not hurting my clients SEO. http://americasinstantsigns.com/ Is it as simple as looking at Google's Cached URL? The URL is definitely being indexed and when looking at the text-only version everything appears to be in order. This may be an outdated question, but I just want to be sure! Thank you so much!

Dear Moz-community, In our company, we are torn about the influence of having a ton of javascript on the top of our source code - while our Tech guys are downplaying it's influence, us marketeers aren't quite sure. We can't figure out why competitors have better position(s) in Google
We are using MOZ analytics for some days now, and it really helps us with important information about our rankings.

I hope you guys can help us out with the following particular case; In google.nl (dutch) we rank position #18 with the following searchterm 'sphinx 345' one of our competitors rank position #3.
We used the MOZ On Page Grade tool to find out some details about the two pages:
Our page #18: http://goo.gl/cTsbmI
Competitor page #3: http://goo.gl/qk21sM Our page hits an A and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 52
The competitors page hits an A too and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 45 About the link structure; for our page there is no link data found in Open Site Explorer. The url exists about a year and a half now.
I'm also very sure we have many internal links to this url.
Does Google and other crawlers have a hard time to crawl our site?(it's a Magento site, our competitors do have custom-made e-commerce systems, maybe that has something to do with it?) As i were saying;we can't figure this out. I hope you guys can help to get us any further. Regards, Wilco0 -
Dynamically changing a title with javascript
Hi, I asked our IT team to be able to write custom page titles in our CMS and they came up with a solution that writes the title dynamically with javascript. When I look on the page, I see the title in the browser, but when I look in the source code, I see the original page title. I am thinking that Google won't see the new javascript title, so it will not be indexed and have no impact on SEO. Am I right ?

Competitor in 70% of results?
I'm trying to rank in the UK for a keyword where one of the competitors takes up around 70% of the top 100 positions. How is that possible? Is this google really giving the most relevant results to searchers? I can't think that a user wants to be presented with the same site on nearly all of the top 10 pages?

Developing a drop down menu: Do I use javascript or pure css?
I am developing a drop down menu and am trying to decide if using javascript instead of just css is worth it. I've done some research on the topic and the opinions seem dated. I know that at one time not using javascript for a drop down menu was important but now less so. Google constantly says that they will not discount the links just because they are not shown until javascript is ran. What I want to know is has anyone discovered from testing that using javascript instead of css for a drop down makes a difference? Note: the links will not be located in an external javascript file.
