90 days for Google
-
Hi,
I'm new to Moz so still getting a feel of the forums. If my question has been answered then please point me in the right direction.
I have noticed with many SEO companies they advertise that they can get you on google front page in 90 days. I'm not really interested in their techniques but more of why google takes 90+ to even appear.
I have been working on my site for over a month, adding content, building good links, social media, blogs etc... but have not even come close to appearing in the top 50 pages for google. Is this normal? Is it just a matter of time before it starts to appear?
Also, I have checked my backlinks and there is about 8 links that are coming from random pages in the US and some from China and india which i have no idea of. I tried to visit on of the sites but it had malware. I added all these back links to google disavow so hopefully that will fix it. Could that be the reason google would not even list my site?
Thanks...
Rick

Most sites say 90 days but the small print is that they will get you on page one for your brand name not your #1 key term or they will get a Google local page for you and get you ranking that way.
It can take a while to rank well, depending on the keyphrases it can take years, and for the very long tail stuff just a few days/weeks.
Links are still very important and you need to create good quality content on your site and then let sites that would be interested in knowing about that aware of it in the hope they will link to you.
Be careful with your link building, Google is dishing out penalties left right and center.
Get a link in some big directories like dmoz and yahoo. Get a facbook profile and twitter, Google loves social as well. Try to update them once a week. Even with just a small post.
Write good content and interlink where possible to create a good internal flow. (don't over do it)
It all takes time but all of a sudden it just happens and you start ranking well.

What tools or tactics do you use to identify which ranking factors Google is weighting for your industry or keyword?
Google ranking factors are increasingly more complex and less universal. Google is emphasizing different ranking factors for different scenarios. What tools are available that can help identify which ranking factors Google may be weighting for a given query or industry? For example, are there any tools that provide correlative analysis of Google's rankings for a given keyword?

Content on product category pages - does Google care?
Hi All, I've always been unsure about the importance of content on product category pages. Nobody reads it. If you search for "living room chairs", you're just going to want to see a big list of living room chairs - not read content about living room chairs, how to choose one, etc. On virtually any ecommerce site, category pages have a paragraph or two of total bla-bla. Does this have any impact on search rankings? More specifically, will Googlebot see content on how to choose a living room chair and say "Yes! This is really helpful content"? Or, will it realize that the searcher intent on this keyword is really just to see a list of chairs, and ignore this content - or at least downplay its importance? WDTY?

Does Google Analytics' Enhanced Link Attribution cause any SEO problems?
We are looking to implement Google Analytics Enhanced Link Attribution on our site. Our tech person says that this will cause SEO problems because of "duplicate URLS." I am not technical, so I don't understand this at all and can't find any research on the topic. I would like to know if there are any known SEO problems caused by putting in Enhanced Link Attribution.

Strange ranking occurrences in Google (NL)
Mozzers, I got a question for all of you. Recently (about 3 months ago) I launched a renewed website for a costumer of mine. Since then rankings have been improving and some decreasing a little but overall it went quite allright. _Still, we now have some issues with some new pages and I really don't know what to do any more. _ The Case:

For starters lets say the company sells vacuum cleaners. We now make pages for specific product ranges e.g. Miele Diamond vacuum cleaners which in turn tells something about this product range and has links to different pages of that series, for instance the Miele Black Diamond Silent Vacuum Cleaner. Why did we do this? We already ranked for specific product pages but also wanted to rank for more general terms and thus product ranges. What happened? We now rank perfectly well for the product pages itself but for some reason the Miele Diamond Vacuum Cleaners page doesn't rank at all or not as it should. Why is this strange? Because we applied the exact same tactic for some other product ranges on the same website and it worked like a charm (part of the reason why we started to do this for all product-ranges). I could really use some help here. If you want I can message you the pagelink in PM but I won't post it here for several reasons. The Vacuum Cleaners in this example or not the real products though but used as an exemplar. I really do hope to hear from you with some advice or request for more information. Regards

SEOmoz Says 530 - Google Webmaster Tools Says 16
A SEOmoz crawl report on 1/20/2013 says we have 530 duplicate page titles most of which are pages like this these two: http://www.audiobooksonline.com/reviews/review.php/details/38 http://www.audiobooksonline.com/reviews/review.php/details/104 These pages are the result of allowing visitors to post their opinions and ratings about specific audio books. Google Webmaster Tools reports we have 16 duplicate page titles none of which are a review page. Why is SEOmoz reporting duplicate page titles? Should SEOmoz be reporting these pages as having duplicate page titles? Why isn't Google Webmaster Tools reporting the review pages as having duplicate titles?

What´s the penalization extent applied by Google?
Hi! I still don´t get this web site penalization applied by Google due to duplicate content. My site has many of pages that were among the first positions for top keywords (A Photoshop web site). Those pages were linked by sites like LifeHacker, BoingBoing, Microsiervos, SmashingMagazine, John Nack, and many other well known blogs. After mid February 2012 everything went down the drain. I lost half of my traffic and my well ranked pages are now almost nowhere to be found. I have plenty of ads in some pages of my site, and duplicate content (amazon product description only) in other pages of my site. So, the good quality pages my site has, are no longer considered as good quality just because I have some duplicate content or ad filled pages? I´m not complaining. I´m trying to understand this. Google needs to serve good information to their visitors. But since they found some trash in my site, they decide to remove both the trash and the good information from the search engine? That doesn´t sound logical to me. Why don´t they just remove the trash and leave the good content? Of course, I understand that information is added everyday and some may come up with something better than mine, but dropping 40 or more places in the ranking sounds more like a penalty to me. Again, I´m not complaining (although it sounds like I am!), just want to understand the reasons behind this. Thanks, Enrique
