How can a site with no content, non SEO optimized or any value rank better?
-
I understand there are many more variables to rank #1, but this site is currently #1 for one of our top keywords and I really don't understand what they
- Competior site barely has 200 words on any given page, very few content other than images with no ALT tags, titles, No H1 tags. in other words the website is not SEO optimized.
- My site has content, product descriptions, images, relevant titles, and definitely more optimized than competitor.
My site VS competitor
- Total pages: 246 (me) vs 49 (them)
- Page Authority: 34 vs 26
- MozRank: 5.3 vs 4.5
- MozTrust: 5.7 vs 5.4
- Domain Authority: 22 vs 17
- External Links: 65 vs 7
- Internal Links 152 vs 1
- Followed Links 14 vs 5
- More C-Blocks 14 vs 4
- Total Social Shares: 127 vs 4

Can you check the age of the domain name? I've seen instances where sites that have been alive for a long, long, long time can outshine other sites with better statistics, but they've withstood the test of time for Google. That's one place I'd look to see if there is a substantial difference.

It can be really hard to pin down without seeing the sites, but one possibility - are they 301-redirecting another domain to this one? Sometimes, you'll see a domain ranking that makes no sense and it turns out someone is passing authority from another site with a 301 or cross-domain rel=canonical. We try to pick up 301s in OSE, but we miss some, and we don't detect cross-domain canonical.

I'm not being penalized - I've verified this
Their links are definitely not high quality at all - I've verified this
The keywords barely appear on any pages - they just throw some words and photos on every page
-
Not really, his few backlinks come from sites with a 11 or less domain authority while mine come from sites with domain authority of 50's through 70's, 80's, and 90's.
The do indeed have the keyword in the domain. The stats I posted are homepage vs homepage.
-
- Are you being penalized or over optimized for this keyword?
- Are their links (any or all) very high quality?
- Are they more focused / content of the website pages semantically centered around this other keyword?
- Lastly, those numbers are not particularly high and can be build in a few months, so Google may be seeing this as more of an apples-to-apples comparison than you may.
-
Out of those 7 links they have, is one very powerful? Quality over quantity maybe?
Do they have the keywords in their domain name?
Is it their homepage vs your internal page?

Value of Outbound Links
I have read through the information on Link Building and I understand the importance of Inbound Links. Turning it on it head, how useful is it to provide outbound links on my web pages? And, do links from domains with higher domain authority get weighted higher? I have thousands of pages that I could add new articles to which I think would add value, but I want to know whether it will help for SEO.

Ranking discrepancies
The head office of our organisation has just set up a new website and I see that it is ranking third below two of our retail stores. I performed a link analysis s and see we out rank our stores in terms of Links etc. Can someone explain to me why we are below these stores. Also our website was only launched a week a go. Could this have an effect?

Risks with sharing my original content with other sites
We write our own unique content to our blog a few times a week. The content is written by professionals (doctors and such) and carries a bit of authority. We periodically get requests from other websites who want to post our content on their blog. We also find that some people will just go ahead and use our exact content (often with a link attribution), without asking permission. Is there any risk of us not getting credit for being the original source of the content if others use it in its entirety? Are there other risks? And more importantly, what should we do to make sure we're getting the SEO credit we deserve? Some ideas which have been discussed that may or may not have credence: Only let others use the exact content well after we've been crawled, so we'll be seen as the first publisher Only let people cite the introductory paragraph, with a link allowing them to read more at our site (with good anchor text) Require people to summarize our story, with a link for the full story Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it Better to Link to an Article or Post it on my Site?
I have a client who has a few articles written about her and posted on different news-related sites. She has asked me to capture these articles (we have permission) and create a section on her site for them. My question is this... From an SEO standpoint, would it be better to link _to the _articles, post them on her site or both? Or, maybe there's an even better way I'm not thinking of. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kirk

Same Content on Different Blogs
We host our blog on WordPress as part of our site. The blog "address" is www.website.com/blog/post. If I were to take the same content that's on this blog and post it on a Blogger account we have, would Google consider that duplicate content? If not, would there be any benefit to doing this?

Should we fire our SEO Vendor?
Dear SeoMozers, We are working on ranking towards some hyper competitive keywords (each query has millions of searches a month) and working with an external SEO Vendor. We were not satisfied with the progress, therefore we asked them to send a revised SEO Plan. Here's what they proposed: 1. On Page Optimization (standard techniques) Off Page Optimization 1. Directory Submissions (100) 2. Article Marketing (Two unique 300 word articles to be submitted to 300 directories) 3. Press Release (Two Press Releases to 100 PR Sites) 4. Classified Ads Submissions 5. Business Listings 6. Link Reinforcement (Create wheel to circulate traffic) 7. Blog Submissions, Commenting, Forum Posting 8. Web 2.0 Link Building (Squidoo Lens, Hub Page, Link Wheel etc) 9. One Way Links (Not Specified how many) Our concern is that this sounds like low quality link building. We've given them 19 top keywords to achieve rankings for and will be paying $20-25K to achieve Top 3-5 rankings for the targeted terms. Do you think this strategy would work or should we change the SEO Vendor?
