One big site for a loose theme or multiple sites for each specific theme?
-
Hi,
Our company produces content related to one loose overall theme. Within that we write content and sell products on three specific sub-themes. Some of our customers cross over and have an interest in two or all three themes and others are only interested in one.
At present we have one site covering reviews of products relating to all three sub-themes...
....and three other sites offering how-to guides and tutorials dedicated to each sub-theme.
We do not have a lot of time to commit to SEO and so we are considering merging the content we have on all three subjects into the one site covering them all.
Each of these sub-themes could have websites in their own right and my worry is that it will be harder to rank for these subject specific terms if the content is not on a site dedicated to that subject.
But of course if they were all together then any links we build will be consolidated into one big site.
Does anyone have any experience of this or have any advice on what the best thing to do would be?
Thanks for your help!

Our company produces content related to one loose overall theme. Within that we write content.....
That much of your description matches how I spend most of my time. I produce content for a single topic website with many many subtopics. The informative content on the site enables it to compete strongly against powerful retail sites and other information sites. Most of our profits come from ad revenue but we also have a store that sells products related to the overall topic.
Based upon conversion rates, profit margins and the CTR of our own ads we know the average eCPM for displaying our own ads to our website visitors. We input that information into Google's DoubleClick ad server and that competes ads for our own store against all Adsense advertisers. We are happy to make a retail sale and happy to give the visitor to a competitor or unrelated business that outbids the value of our own retail ads.
It is a mathematical approach. We are authors first, retailers second.
About your one site vs multiple sites question. In my opinion it is easier to attack with a battleship than ten potato guns.
If you have one site then all of the domain queries, links, mentions, likes, tweets, focus on a single property. It is easier to build strength in once site than to build strength in ten. Remember, in the SERPs it is one site against all others. A potato gun will be ineffective. I want to attack with the battleship. That is the only way to beat amazon, ebay, about.com and all of the other sites that might appear in your SERPs.
Also, I do have two small sites, each of those is an info site with a specialized store and they are related to a topic of my main site. The main site defeats one of them everywhere, but it succeeds because it has enormous content it its niche. Far more than the main site.
The other site sells products related to the main site but there is not a content basis for it on the main site. Again I use DFP to compete ads for these sites against adsense.

Can you track two Google Analytics Accounts on one site?
If you have a site that had an old analytics account and then implemented a new one is it possible to run tracking code that records to both accounts without causing your site or data issues? We are doing this so we don't loose data at any point - ideally it wouldn't have been split between the two but making one redundant isn't an option. Ideally we would have merged the data from both accounts and had one - however the research we have done points to this not being a possibility - unless one of you guys knows different? It would be great if anyone has experience on any this.. Thanks

Deleted Rarely Visited Pages - Traffic Dropped (Big Time)
Hi folks: I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have on a problem I am having with organic traffic. One of our sites has about 500 pages/blog posts. We had about 200 pages that no one was visiting, or only one to ten people had visited in an entire year. As a result, we decided to experiment, and delete any page which had fewer than 5 visits in a year. This resulted in a deletion of about 90 pages. We did this on April 6 or 7 of this year. Two days later, we had a substantial drop in visits to the site. We had been getting about 300 sessions a day. Now, we are lucky to get that in a month. I know there was an algorithm update in late March, but our traffic dropped about two weeks after that, and a day or so after the deletion of the pages. There is a clear demarcation on analytics. I gave it a month, the traffic did not recover, so we decided to restore the pages. Traffic has not recovered and it has been about 3 months now. Does anyone have any thoughts on why we might have experienced such a drastic drop as well as what we might do to recover from it? Thanks very much

Why am i getting a flux of increase in Impressions on my site & then it decreases
They guys. Hope everyone is having a great week. I wanted to get some inputs from you guys in regards to what is happening to my site that i quite don't understand. Every month or so i get this influx of high visibility with impressions for my keywords and then the impressions go away but my rankings still keep going up. Has anyone experienced this before and can give me some insight on what is going . Why do i get such a big jump and then it dies off only to return again a month later or 2 months later. I know you guys want probably some info from my site or from analytics or webmaster tools so i will provide as much as i can . For now i have included a screen shot. Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages?
Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages? The problem I have is that we have several pages that are served to visitors of numerous other domains but are also served to visitors of our site. We end up with inflated Google Analytics numbers because people are viewing these pages from our partners' domains but never actually entering our site. I've made an advanced segment that serves the purpose but I'd really like to filter it at the profile level so the numbers across the board are more accurate without having to apply an advanced segment to every report. The advanced segment excludes visits that hit these pages as landing pages but includes visits where people have come from other pages on our domain. I know that you can do profile filters to exclude visits to pages or directories entirely but is there a way to filter them only if they are a landing pages? Any other creative thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Tracking Multiple Top Level Domains in GA
Hi, I am setting up Google Analytics for www.example.co.uk and www.example.ie Is this as simple as just adding GA tracking code 'track Multiple top-level domains'? With this method how can I distinguish between each site's incoming traffic? Do filters needed to be created? Thanks in advance 🙂
