Why would one of our section pages NOT be indexed by Google?
-
One of our higher traffic section pages is not being indexed by Google. The products that reside on this section page ARE indexed by Google and are on page 1. So why wouldn't the section page be even listed and indexed? The meta title is accurate, meta description is good. I haven't received any notices in Webmaster Tools.
Is there a way to check to see if OTHER pages might also not be indexed? What should a small ecom site do to see about getting it listed?
SOS in Modesto.

Hi Maximilian,
Thanks so much for the info!
I am going to edit the strap lines now based on your input. I see what you are referring to now.
Much appreciated.

Hey Ron,
I had a quick look at your site and I couldn't see an obvious reason why it might not be indexed. The page is linked to via your sites navigation and at the 1st level (meaning its linked from your top level pages such as home page), it’s present in your sitemap.xml file, isn't blocked either in robots.txt or at a page level via robots meta tags and it doesn't have a different canonical URL defined.
Might just be one of those mysteries’ things, I've worked on a site before that had some pages that weren't indexed, and we could never fathom out why either.
I did notice something, you have a strap line in your header and footer which could be seen as keyword stuffing by Google. Although this wouldn't result in a page getting indexed, its not good.
its the ‘Titanium-Jewelry.com - The largest selection of titanium rings, tungsten rings and men's wedding bands on the internet!’
And
Really amazing jewelry. And really cool people. We sell titanium rings, tungsten rings, mens wedding bands and other awesome stuff.
Lines I’m talking about.
You have also got some duplicate titles on your news pages you should look at changing.
You might want to carrying out an in depth on-site SEO audit, you may have more issues if I noticed these at a quick glance.

Hi Maximilian,
Thanks for responding. Here is the url: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/tiriforlast.html
I was poking around in WMT after I posted and saw where I could "Fetch as Google" and the url was not found. So I clicked on the "Submit to index". And I just checked google, "site:http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/tiriforlast.html" and the page is showing up!
I am not sure WHY Google didn't have this page indexed. My concern now is how many other pages are not indexed?
Any idea how I can check? -
Hi Ron,
If you had some example URLs that would be helpful, we can check for any obvious issues.

Google Indexing Stopped
Hello Team, A month ago, Google was indexing more than 2,35,000 pages, now has reduced to 11K. I have cross-checked almost everything including content, backlinks and schemas. Everything is looking fine, except the server response time, being a heavy website, or may be due to server issues, the website has an average loading time of 4 secs. Also, I would like to mention that I have been using same server since I have started working on the website, and as said above a month ago the indexing rate was more than 2.3 M, now reduced to 11K. nothing changed. As I have tried my level best on doing research for the same, so please if you had any such experiences, do share your valuable solutions to this problem.

Prioritise a page in Google/why is a well-optimised page not ranking
Hello I'm new to Moz Forums and was wondering if anyone out there could help with a query. My client has an ecommerce site selling a range of pet products, most of which have multiple items in the range for difference size animals i.e. [Product name] for small dog
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | LauraSorrelle
[Product name] for medium dog
[Product name] for large dog
[Product name] for extra large dog I've got some really great rankings (top 3) for many keyword searches such as
'[product name] for dogs'
'[product name]' But these rankings are for individual product pages, meaning the user is taken to a small dog product page when they might have a large dog or visa versa. I felt it would be better for the users (and for conversions and bounce rates), if there was a group page which showed all products in the range which I could target keywords '[product name]', '[product name] for dogs'. The page would link through the the individual product pages. I created some group pages in autumn last year to trial this and, although they are well-optimised (score of 98 on Moz's optimisation tool), they are not ranking well. They are indexed, but way down the SERPs. The same group page format has been used for the PPC campaign and the difference to the retention/conversion of visitors is significant. Why are my group pages not ranking? Is it because my client's site already has good rankings for the target term and Google does not want to show another page of the site and muddy results?
Is there a way to prioritise the group page in Google's eyes? Or bring it to Google's attention? Any suggestions/advice welcome. Thanks in advance Laura0 -
Robots.txt, Disallow & Indexed-Pages..
Hi guys, hope you're well. I have a problem with my new website. I have 3 pages with the same content: http://example.examples.com/brand/brand1 (good page) http://example.examples.com/brand/brand1?show=false http://example.examples.com/brand/brand1?show=true The good page has rel=canonical & it is the only page should be appear in Search results but Google has indexed 3 pages... I don't know how should do now, but, i am thinking 2 posibilites: Remove filters (true, false) and leave only the good page and show 404 page for others pages. Update robots.txt with disallow for these parameters & remove those URL's manually Thank you so much!

Wrong Page Indexing in SERPS - Suggestions?
Hey Moz'ers! I have a quick question. Our company (Savvy Panda) is working on ranking for the keyword: "Milwaukee SEO". On our website, we have a page for "Milwaukee SEO" in our services section that's optimized for the keyword and we've been doing link building to this. However, when you search for "Milwaukee SEO" a different page is being displayed in the SERP's. The page that's showing up in the SERP's is a category view of our blog of articles with the tag "Milwaukee SEO". **Is there a way to alert google that the page showing up in the SERP's is not the most relevant and request a new URL to be indexed for that spot? ** I saw a webinar awhile back that showed something like that using google webmaster sitelinks denote tool. I would hate to denote that URL and then loose any kind of indexing for the keyword.

Sudden Change In Indexed Pages
Every week I check the number of pages indexed by google using the "site:" function. I have set up a permanent redirect from all the non-www pages to www pages. When I used to run the function for the: non-www pages (i.e site:mysite.com), would have 12K results www pages (i.e site:www.mysite.com) would have about 36K The past few days, this has reversed! I get 12K for www pages, and 36K for non-www pages. Things I have changed: I have added canonical URL links in the header, all have www in the URL. My questions: Is this cause for concern? Can anyone explain this to me?

How can I block unwanted urls being indexed on google?
Hi, I have to block unwanted urls (not that page) from being indexed on google. I have to block urls like example.com/entertainment not the exact page example.com/entertainment.aspx . Is there any other ways other than robot.txt? If i add this to robot.txt will that block my other url too? Or should I make a 301 redirection from example.com/entertainment to example.com/entertainment.aspx. Because some of the unwanted urls are linked from other sites. thanks in advance.
