Creative ideas to invite G +1 button clicks
-
Hello,
What's some creative white hat ways to get people to click our G +1 button?
A competitor is offering a coupon in return but isn't that black hat?
What are some 100% white hat ways?
-
Bob,
My first question would be what are you trying to get +1's for? Is it for your domain, specific link or something else? We wanted to have more +1's for our site, so we added a +1 button on our homepage so people could +1 it on the fly. It worked out and we now have 41 +1's more than before.
Also, what we have found is that an incentive doesn't always work. It's a bell-shape-curve and after a while it will actually have a negative affect. I agree with Peter, sometimes all you need is great content but what I do strongly believe in is reminding people to do it. You could be on Yelp but if you don't tell people you are there and the fact that you appreciate their feedback, you won't get as many reviews. Same thing with +1's. Let people know you would appreciate the love, if they enjoy reading your content and they can decide if they want to +1 your link or not. If it is good content, it will work every time.
Add that button to the target, it works like a charm. If people see it, they will remember to do it.
I hope this helps.
Best,

Hi Bob
Is it black hat to encourage +1s in return for a voucher? These are Google's thoughts on what a +1 is for:
+1 is how you signal your appreciation for anything that grabs your attention on Google+ or on your favorite websites. When you read a post that makes you want to cheer, +1 is your applause; when you watch a video that has you in stitches, +1 is your laughter; when you see a photo that perfectly captures that special moment, +1 is your 5-star review.
I guess on that basis that technique is not exactly white hat but perhaps more grey hat!
To answer your question re white hat tips, it is producing anything that fits Google's definition of a +1. I remember 10 years or so now Seth Godin wrote a book called The Purple Cow. The story is that when you see a field of cows you might mention it as you drive past the cows are soon forgotten. But as you drove by if you saw in the middle there was stood a purple cow, you would stop your car, jump out take a photo or a video to tell your friends and the world about it (also via likes, tweets and +1s) because a purple cow is remark-able!
So I'm not sure there are any tips other than that. It's finding the purple cow in your business, in the products or services you sell, in the way you treat your customers or the great information you provide on your blog. If you do then people will want to "remark" about it and tell their friends and the world!
So I don't think there is any secret sauce. Just be remarkable!
I hope that helps,
Peter

+1's just Homepage or Everypage?
We just put added the little +1 button to all of our pages, and I'm curious if I should be trying to get +1's on all our pages, just the homepage or just the homepage and some of our most important pages? Also, is there any reason we should "slowly" add +1's, like google reviews? I'm sure we could get 100 - 200 of our g+ community to at least +1 the homepage if we asked and/or involved some sort of give-a-way, but I wouldn't want to get red flagged for that if it happened in a week. Granted, I'm not really sure how g+'s work in terms of SEO penalties or if there are any for things like that, but I want to double-check. Thanks for the help, Ruben

How should I structure my facebook like buttons?
I have a facebook like button on my homepage. Currently, it points to my facebook page, so every time someone likes this button they are liking my facebook page. Is this how it should be structured? Do the likes count towards my home page? Is there a way that a like can simultaneously like my facebook page AND my website? Which is best for search metrics? Thanks for your responses.

Like .vs Share Button - for SEO which is better?
I personally from what I have read believe the share button to be more powerful when it comes to SEO but I don't know for a fact so anyone have any input on this subject? One thing I do know, is it's a lot harder to gain a 'Share' then a 'Like' and im talking about these buttons being onsite maybe in a blog post. If you gained 100 shares and 100 likes which one would generate the best signals? Thanks

Facbook like button - where to?
Hey I own a few websites and always wondering whats better in terms of SEO. Having a like button directed to my website or having it directed to a fan page of my website. Looks like most Seo tools count the "directed to website". is it because its easier? or is it because its better to SEO? Thanks Idoz

Good idea to include links in Facebook posts teaser-text?
Hi guys, I'm wondering; is it a good idea (for the engines primaliry) to include links with targeted keywords in facebook posts. From a user perspective I would say it's not desirable. But I'm wondering how Google and co treat links which they find there. They are nofollowed, yes. They are indexed however but when I want google to show me the text-only version of the cached page I receive an 404 error which is odd. Anybody else getting the 404 from google? Eg. clicking on this cache-URL: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jsC_26QVKbgJ:www.facebook.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661+site:facebook.com/echoonline&cd=3&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de&client=firefox-a and then on "text only" leads to this page which does not exist: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661?_fb_noscript=1 Looking forward to your ideas on this topic.

Facebook Reach from 1,200 to less than 20 in 24 hours?
I created ad #1 in facebook ran it for a marked time frame. Target audience 1200. Reached 248. Created ad #2. Wanted to test it against ad #1 for same audience, but now Facebook says the target audience is less than 20 people. Huh? Facebook can't be loosing people that fast. Why would this happen? Is it simply a glitch?

Does the Facebook Share button still exist?
Hi everyone, I'm reading everywhere about the Facebook 'Share' being more powerful than the Facebook 'Like'. Just yesterday, there's a post on the SEOmoz blog about Facebook Shares http://www.seomoz.org/blog/plus-one-adoption-rates-and-social-sharing-statistics But I thought the Share button was replaced by the Like button? http://mashable.com/2011/02/27/facebook-like-button-takes-over-share-button-functionality/ All references to the Share button now point you to Facebook's Like button developer page. So if we want more SEO value, where can we get the Share button from? Or do we have to make do with the Like button from now on?
