Help my site it's not being indexed
-
Hello... We have a client, that had arround 17K visits a month... Last september he hired a company to do a redesign of his website....They needed to create a copy of the site on a different subdomain on another root domain... so I told them to block that content in order to not affect my production site, cause it was going to be an exact replica of the content but different design....
The developmet team did it wrong and blocked the production site (using robots.txt), so my site lost all it's organica traffic, which was 85-90% of the total traffic and now only get a couple of hundreds visits a month... First I thought we had been somehow penalized, however when I the other site recieving new traffic and being indexed i realized so I switched the robots.txt and created 301 redirect from the subdomain to the production site.
After resending sitemaps, links to google+ and many things I can't get google to reindex my site.... when i do a site:domain.com search in google I only get 3 results. Its been now almost 2 month and honestly dont know what to do....
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Dan

If it makes you feel any better, this is the solution about once a month in Q&A. You're not the first, and you certainly won't be the last!

This is way I love the SEOMOZ community no matter how stupid the solution to your problem might be people will let you know.
I feel like an amateur (cause I'm) I think I overtrusted yoast's plugin, Because whenever your are blocking the robots it will tell you, hoewever this time it didn't and the site, through wordpress config, was blocking the site.
I changed it, resubmited the sitemaps, checked the code and updated yoast's great plugin....
Thanks guys... I SEOPromise to check always the code myself

When I go to your page and look at the source code I see this line:
name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow' />
You are telling the bots not to index the page or follow any links on the page. This is in the source code for your home page.
I'd go back into the wordpress settings (you are using Yoast) and make sure to enable the site for search engine visibility!
Once you do that, and verify that the code is changed to "='index, follow'" then resubmit your sitemaps via webmaster tools.

A suggestion for the future: use some type of code monitoring service, such as https://polepositionweb.com/roi/codemonitor/index.php (no relationship with the company, it's just what I use), and have it alert you to any changes in the robots.txt file on both the live and staging environments.
I was in a situation at a previous employment where the development team wasn't the best at SEO, and I had experienced the robots.txt from the dev site being put on the live site, and the other way around, and also things being added to or removed from the robots.txt without our request or knowledge. The verification files for Google and Bing Webmaster Tools would sometimes go missing, too.
I used that code monitor to check once a day and email me if there were changes to the robots.txt or verification files on the live site and the robots.txt of all of our dev and staging sites (to make sure they weren't accidentally indexed). Was a huge help!

Yes take another look at that robots file for sure. If you provided us with the domain we might be able to better help you.
Also, go into Webmaster Tools and poke around. Check how many pages are being indexed, look at sitemaps, do a fetch-as-google, etc.

Hi Dan
It sounds like your robot.txt are still blocking your site despite the redirects. You might be best getting rid of the robot.txt and starting again ensuring nothing is blocked that it shouldn't.
regards, David

Does creating too many parent pages damage my website's SEO?
I need to know how to keep my website structure well organised and ensure Google still recognises the key pages. I work for a travel company which needs to give customers various pieces of information on our website and this needs to be well organised in terms of structure. For example, customers need information on airport pick-ups and drop-offs for each of our destinations but this isn't something that needs to rank on Google. Logically for site structure would be to create a parent page: thedragontrip.com/transfers/india Is creating parent pages for unimportant content a bad idea?

Should m-dot sites be indexed at all
I have a client with a site with a m-dot mobile version. They will move it to a responsive site sometime next year but in meanwhile I have a massive doubt. This m-dot site has some 30k indexed pages in Google. Each of this page is bidirectionally linked to the www. version (rel="alternate on the www, rel canonical on the m-dot) There is no noindex on the m-dot site, so I understand that Google might decide to index the m-dot pages regardless of the canonical to the www site. But my doubts stays: is it a bad thing that both the version are indexed? Is this having a negative impact on the crawling budget? Or risking some other bad consequence? and how is the mobile-first going to impact on this? Thanks

What if my site isn't ready for Mobile Armageddon by April 21st??
Hello Moz Experts, I am fighting for one of our sites to be mobile optimized, but the fight is taking longer than anticipated (need approval from higher ups). What happens if my site is not ready by April 21st? Will it take long to recover, like Penguin? Or, will the recovery be fairly quick? Say I release a mobile version of my site a week later. Then Google will have to reindex it and rank me again. How long will that take before I regain my traffic? Thanks,

How to take out international URL from google US index/hreflang help
Hi Moz Community, Weird/confusing question so I'll try my best. The company I work for also has an Australian retail website. When you do a site:ourbrand.com search the second result that pops up is au.brand.com, which redirects to the actual brand.com.au website. The Australian site owner removed this redirect per my bosses request and now it leads to a an unavailable webpage. I'm confused as to best approach, is there a way to noindex the au.brand.com URL from US based searches? My only problem is that the au.brand.com URL is ranking higher than all of the actual US based sub-cat pages when using a site search. Is this an appropriate place for an hreflang tag? Let me know how I can help clarify the issue. Thanks,

Need help understanding "Clone sites"
I just read an article about Panda and it warned against against Clone sites: "Clone sites are a strong panda factor (JM, Mar 10, 2014)" I don't have any clone sites, but there are dozens of sites with imitations of mine. We were the first in the area of interest, and then all these other sites that imitated us popped up. None are exact replicas. But many have spun some of our articles and used them to create their sites; the site structures are not identical though. Google seems to know we are the original site on the topic since we are ranked #1 for most terms. Would these be considered clone sites in their eyes?

Will these 301's get me penalized?
Hey everyone, We're redesigning parts of our site and I have a tricky question that I was hoping to get some sound advice about. We have a blog (magazine) with subcategory pages that are quite thin. We are going to restructure the blog (magazine) and feature different concert and have new subcategories. So we are trying to decide where to redirect the existing subcategory pages, e.g. Entertainment, Music, Sports, etc. www.charged.fm/magazine Our new ticket category pages ( Concert Tickets, NY Yankees Tickets, OKC Thunder Tickets, etc) are going to feature a tab called 'Latest News' where we are thinking of 301 redirecting the old magazine subcategory pages. So Sports News from the blog would 301 to Sports Tickets (# Latest News tab). See screenshot below for example. So my question is: Will this look bad in the eyes of the GOOG? Are these closely related enough to redirect? Are there any blatant pitfalls that I'm not seeing? It seems like a win/win because we are making a rich Performer page with News, Bio, Tickets and Schedule and getting to reallocate the link juice that was being wasted in an pretty much useless page that was allowed to become to powerful. Gotta keep those pages in check! Thoughts appreciated. Luke Cn6HPpH.jpg

Same day indexing... some tips for a non blog site
Hi There's a question today about paying for Yahoo directory - I wondered if these kinds of links would help with getting indexed. We're adding about 10-20 pages of new unique content each day, but it takes google about 4 days to list it and then it only lists a few pages of that 10-20 pages, we have other older sites and blogs that are within the hour. What tips can you give me for getting at least a same day index, and a thorough one at that, so if we publish 20 pages on Thursday by the end of play Friday they're indexed? Would the Yahoo Directory help?
