How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
-
Hi,
I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I:
1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed
2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool)
3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed.
I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it
Thanks Ben

Hi Ben,
I'd echo what Patrick has said and probably recommend his first suggestion the most. Google Webmaster Tools is a good way of checking indexation and if you have a large site with lots of categories, you can even break down the sitemaps by category so that you can see if certain areas are having problems.
Here is an old, but still relevant post on the topic:
http://www.branded3.com/blogs/using-multiple-sitemaps-to-analyse-indexation-on-large-sites/
In terms of creating the sitemap, Screaming Frog has an option under Advanced Export for creating an XML sitemap file for you which works very well. You just need to make sure you're only including pages that you want indexed in there.
Cheers.

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for replying.
Can you recommend any tools for creating the site map i've had a look around and the few i've found seem to all deliver different results? One has been submitted previously so i need to go through the process for myself so i can under these basics.
I've had a read up on robot txt so i understand what is happening there from an exclusion perspective and once i understand how the XML site works ill be able to do an audit as mentioned above.

Ben,
You can check a couple things:
- Have you submitted your XML site map to Google? If not, create one and get it submitted so you tell Google what pages you want indexed.
- Submit your domain and all pages through Google Webmasters Tool as well (Login > left side bar > Crawl > Fetch as Google
- Screaming Frog is an awesome software, so yes, if you have it, use it to scan your pages
- Try and do a simple "site:domainname.com" search in Google to see what is being indexed from your domain
Cross reference it all and you will then have a better understanding. I do believe, your sitemap is crucial in telling Google exactly what pages you do and do not want indexed. They will follow that. You're on the right track and hope my input was helpful! - Patrick

Meta no index crawler warnings
I've decided that the duplicate content issues on my site weren't worth the effort from the amount of traffic the archive pages on my WordPress site received no I decided to no-index them using Yoast. Now I have 60 meta no-index crawler warnings. Should I just ignore these? It seems I get warnings, either way, I use the site. Does anyone have advice on how to move on with this?

Page Rank vs Page and Domain Authority - who wins?
A client has found another SEO agency promising various things to do with link building. Most of these promises are based upon links from sites with allegedly high page ranks. So my questions: Page rank seems to be fading out am I safe to stay with PA and DA metrics instead? I don't agree with link building tactics and feel that it should more a networking activity to provide USEFUL links to users... am I being too white hat and missing opporunities? The other company have promised long list of links including 100 SEO friendly web directory listings, 200 PR 8 back links from Pinterest (which i thought was no follow) & 10 long lasting and high quality mini web sites (with three pages/posts, video and pictures). Am I right that this all sounds a little spammy or is this really what I should be doing for me clients?

Where do I post this list of hacked sites?
Hey guys, Fairly new to SEOmoz but loving it so far. I was working on a new clients site a noticed some spammy links added right before the tag. Used Open site explorer to list the domains linking to the url and found nearly 300 unsuspecting domains. Some like heartresearch.com.au which just drives me craaazy, I have already emailed them. Below is the list. http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links.html?group=0&page=3&site=www.rhcie.com Short of emailing every single person can anyone suggest a forum or such that would be helpful for posting this information ? I know it's just a few links but it is frustrating to me and If I can do something about it I would like to. Thanks in advance. Jason

On Page URL's not updating?
I recently moved my site to Shopify which completely changed the URL structure. I went to my old pages and created permanent 301 redirects to my new pages on shopify. For some reason, the On Page reports are not picking up on one of the new pages. This is effecting my grading. Just wondering why this is happening & whether this may be an indication of a larger problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Using the On-Page optimization Report Card
I am curious if there is a way to get the on page optimization report card to not show a grade of "F" for a page that I'm not targeting a particular keyword for? For example my home page has a lot of grade "F's" for keywords that are targeted on different pages.

Is there any way to set up Open Site Explorer to show these things for competitor external backlinks: Google Page Rank of the page the backlink is on Google Page Rank of the domain the backlink is on Whether the backlink is a follow or no follow Is this possible in OSE? If not, are there any other SEOMOZ Tools that will do this? Thanks.
