Why is my featured expert tip being nofollowed by Examiner.com?
-
Hey guys, I recently got a press hit featuring a tip I provided for an article on marketing medical practices. The article is on examiner.com and I am wondering what their reason may be for no-following the links in their articles ...ttp://www.examiner.com/article/the-biggest-challenges-medical-marketing-and-how-to-overcome-them-1
Don't get me wrong, I understand and am excited about the intrinsic benefits of being featured in such an article...just wondered why something like that would be no-followed!
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
Ricky

They were dofollow but recently examiner changed it to no-follow due to massive abuse
-
Google probably does what the nofollow tag says.
Still... think positive: you got a mention on "examiner"!, probably will drive you some nice organic traffic...
(my inner jealous talking: I'd kill for one! even knowing they are nofollow :P)
-
Yep, I hear ya!
I didn't understand it either. It seems to be a perfect example of a link that SHOULD be followed. There are links all over the internet passing link equity that are total crap (ie. blog comment spam, .edu spam etc.), really odd that the system currently has those links adding value but links like this one doing nothing for your site authority!
You would think Google would WANT to put stock in a mention like this...wonder how tightly they stick to honoring "nofollows" like these...
-
Thanks Tim! Yep, I saw also it was a site-wide policy but was unsure why. Maybe I'll give it a go on reaching out just to see what they say..couldn't hurt!
-
As Tim pointed, it is a common practice on examiner to nofollow their outbound links.
I personally found that disgusting... (regardless the site doing it) they are "profiting" with what you wrote while not giving you any credit. Yeah, I also get the point of being featured on their site, organic link traffic, etc. but still, they are quoting me, naturally, why not linking naturally too.
My quick guess, is that they do so many product reviews, they are just covering their a***s against any advertorial accusation that could led to a penalty...
-
Hi Ricky,
Congrats on the mention in Examiner! I looked through a bunch of their other articles and it seems that no-following external links is a standard practice for them. For example, here's an article that links to HootSuite, LinkedIn and the iTunes App Store - all of them are no-followed.
You could try to find the contact info for an editor and request that they remove the no-follow tag, but if this is a site-wide policy, I'm not sure that they would do it for you.
Tim

Not appearing when www.domainname.com.au is searched
We are working on an SEO campaign that has an issue, of which we are unsure of the cause. When the domain is searched for in Google as domainname.com.au. The search results show the website just fine. See here for the display of this. http://imgur.com/a/Vcbqs However, when the domain is searched for in Google as www.domainname.com.au. The search results do not display our website. See here to see this issue. http://imgur.com/a/jX692 We are unsure why our website does not appear in Google's listings when the www. is added in search. If anyone can help us here to explain and help us resolve this, that would be much appreciated.

Syndicated content with meta robots 'noindex, nofollow': safe?
Hello, I manage, with a dedicated team, the development of a big news portal, with thousands of unique articles. To expand our audiences, we syndicate content to a number of partner websites. They can publish some of our articles, as long as (1) they put a rel=canonical in their duplicated article, pointing to our original article OR (2) they put a meta robots 'noindex, follow' in their duplicated article + a dofollow link to our original article. A new prospect, to partner with with us, wants to follow a different path: republish the articles with a meta robots 'noindex, nofollow' in each duplicated article + a dofollow link to our original article. This is because he doesn't want to pass pagerank/link authority to our website (as it is not explicitly included in the contract). In terms of visibility we'd have some advantages with this partnership (even without link authority to our site) so I would accept. My question is: considering that the partner website is much authoritative than ours, could this approach damage in some way the ranking of our articles? I know that the duplicated articles published on the partner website wouldn't be indexed (because of the meta robots noindex, nofollow). But Google crawler could still reach them. And, since they have no rel=canonical and the link to our original article wouldn't be followed, I don't know if this may cause confusion about the original source of the articles. In your opinion, is this approach safe from an SEO point of view? Do we have to take some measures to protect our content? Hope I explained myself well, any help would be very appreciated, Thank you,

Google News - How to be featured in different countries with same domain
Hello, I am sure I am not the first to go through this but I did not find the answers in the previous Q&As. So, sorry if this question is bit redundant for some folks. We have a site in English with readers in multiple english speaking countries. How to make www.mysite.com accepted in Google news for US, UK, India, Australia and Canada at the same time? It is currently accepted in the US but, as I stated above, we do have a strong audience in other countries. I have read about sub-domains, but wouldn't it be considered duplicated content if I had the exact same article in different sub-domains? We are talking about creating 4 copies on mysite.com just to be added to Google News in those specific countries www.mysite.com/same-article/

Can using nofollow on magento layered navigation hurt?
Howdy Mozzers! We would like to use no follow, no index on our magento layered navigation pages after any two filters are selected. (We are using single filter pages as landing page, so we would liked them indexed) Is it ok to use nofollow, noindex on these filter pages? Are there disadvantages of using nofollow on internal pages? Matt mentioned refraining from using nofollow internally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SAPUx4Beh8 But we would like to conserve crawling bandwidth and PR flow on potentially 100's of thousands of irrelevant/duplicate filter pages.

Best website structure for product benefits and features.
I'm in disagreement with my partner over how best to represent our products' benefits and features on the homepage of our website. I'm interested in this from primarily a SEO perspective but it obviously has an impact on conversions as well. I believe that a homepage shouldn't contain too much information so as not to overwhelm the user, a brief sentence or two about each benefit with a link to another page with in depth info about the related feature. Each of these inner pages would be optimized and contain much more content that you could put on the homepage example below. Each Please see wireframe A He believes in more information on the homepage. There is more content to index which he believes is important for the homepage. Also, by using tabs most of the content is hidden from initial view so its doesn't clutter the page and the user doesn't have to leave the page to decide whether he is interested in the software. Please see wireframe B below. I'd really love to hear from other Moz'ers which they would choose and why?

Why DBDResults.com is #1 on Google for "Internet Marketing Agency"?
They have a new site, no links, no content, their page isn't optimized for this keyword (it's not even one on the page or their page title)... They only have 5 incoming links with the keyword in it, but its competitors have way more. Can someone solve this mystery?
