Are Bullet Points Bad For Context?
-
Cyrus' webinar yesterday got me thinking about the use of bullet points and Google's increasing affection for context and semantics.
Because of their brevity, I can see bullet points parsing up context/semantics etc.
Some of our competitors (apparently trying to appeal to Google) are writing 2-4 sentences about the product in the desciption section followed by bullet points repeating the same information. They'll also put a few sentences of description at the top of the page above the price and then repeat it below in the description (this is relatively common).
I put text in the description section and like bullet points as a shopper because I can quickly and easily see important information - therefore I use them heavily in product descriptions.
Is Google smart enough process bullet points and mash together context or would Google prefer content in well written sentences?
Should I be frying bigger fish?
-
Thanks fellas. Agreed.

I would go with frying bigger fish. I've read usability/user experience studies that claim bullet points are helpful, and I think that they can be good when used appropriately, but I wouldn't stress too much about them. I imagine everyone else has read the same studies, because I see bullet points used for the sake of bullet points all over the place. That's not good for user experience, so I wouldn't go down that road. You need to get customers to your page, but you also need to convert them.

Very interesting question but I think you should be frying bigger fish
.
Even if you add them as bullet points it's still text and I think Google is smart enough to figure out the context. Also since you're adding a description you shouldn't have any worries.
Personally I like bullet points when shopping so as long as you don't overdo it I think it's a good strategy.

Is a resource page bad for SEO
This is the page http://www.christoit.com/free-resources/articles. While this page isn't what I would consider to be a "resource page" (there are no downloads or any other resources) The question is, does a page like this that just has links to articles, hurt the overall ranking of the site. If you have any examples to support your opinion that would be great! Thanks so much for all awesome threads and answers on this site. There are some really smart people all in one place!

What's the point of my blog?
My website, www.toplinecomms.com has a reasonably good blog that gets quite good interaction and sharing. I introduced the blog at the start of 2013 because the general sentiment from all the SEO books and articles I had read was that a good blog could be invaluable to a search marketing campaign. The posts on the blog are keyword optimised and they get great shares and social engagement. However, I have noticed that the blog is stealing my services' pages' thunder! There are some keywords that I am keen for our services pages to rank for, but the blog is beating them to it! So my question is: How should I be using my blog to get my services pages to rank higher?

Collaps-O-Matic for product video transcripts - bad for SEO?
I'm using Wordpress plugin Collapse-O-Matic as a collapse/reveal function for my product video transcripts. Is this ok from an SEO standpoint? Will Google and other search engines see it as hidden content? Are there better options?

Are My footer links bad?
I started working here recently, they said the footer links were to help with navigation of their most popular products. I am curious after reading http://www.seomoz.org/blog/internal-linking-strategies-for-2012-and-beyond if having these footer links could hurt the ranking of those key words after the penguin update. I am looking more into the analytics, and have not seen a negative impact yet.

Non-linked product short descriptions bad on ecommerce sites?
Hi, I have a question regarding SEO for ecommerce: Do you guys think it could be a bad thing to display non-linked short product descriptions of products on the home page and category pages? Can that cause cannibalism between different pages and non-optimal keyword targeting? I have a shop of which it's homepage tend to rank for some unintended phrases. Thank you, E

Redirecting to an exact match root domain: good, bad, or neutral?
We have a client who wants to secure an exact match domain for their new website, but it's very long. They're wondering about securing an additional domain that is much shorter for marketing purposes (business cards, email addresses, etc). We would then 301 redirect the short domain to the main domain. Are we going to see negative SEO implications from that?

Would it be bad to change the canonical URL to the most recent page that has duplicate content, or should we just 301 redirect to the new page?
Is it bad to change the canonical URL in the tag, meaning does it lose it's stats? If we add a new page that may have duplicate content, but we want that page to be indexed over the older pages, should we just change the canonical page or redirect from the original canonical page? Thanks so much! -Amy
