301 Redirect from ASP.NET to PHP...Is it possible?

Hi all,
I'm trying to migrate my current website over to wordpress however my current website is ASP.NET and obviously Wordpress uses PHP.
Is it possible to perform a 301 redirect from a asp.net to a php?
Or do you need to convert the asp.net language into php?
Or something different?
I welcome your thoughts?

From what I understand I could just do this...
I build up a new wordpress website on a different hosting account. Within the .htaccess file I create my 301's. Then once I point the domain from the old hosting and website to my new one everything should work fine?

sorry for my late answer.
As Alan was saying, the web server intercepts a request before it serves a page. If it finds a rule that redirects that request, there is no need for the files to exist. So you would manage the rules for the request that you want to redirect on the same server where the old domain is located. If you are redirecting to the same domain, then yes, this means the rule will be on the same server that manages that domain. When somebody looks for your page, then the DNS would point to your server's IP. After that, the request is sent to that IP and the web server will try to serve whatever is needed for that request. But if you successfully add a rule for that specific request (let's say "www.mydomain.com/page1") to be sent to another URL (let's say "www.mydomain.com/newpage"), then the server will redirect that request.

you don't need both sets of files.
before the request reaches your pages, it is intercepted by the webserver and checks for any 301 rules. if it finds one for that url it will redirect, even if neither of the files exist. this all happens early in the request life cycle.
But as I said before, make things easy for yourself, only 301 the pages that had external links

Thanks for replying. Wondered however how you would get both the files to sit on the same hosting?
I know that windows can take both PHP and ASP.NET but I have heard that windows hosting for WordPress is not as straight forward as Linux. Is it still possible to perform 301 redirects for both sets of files in Linux?

I would find any pages that's have external links, and only 301 them, as there is no use 301'ing pages that have no external links, you can 301 any url you want, the language is not relevant.
What server are you on IIS(Microsoft) or Apache? For Apache then use .htaccess for iis use web.config
Me myself I would not be moving to WordPress, you will end up with many more crawling problems

I did not code ASP.NET, but from my understanding, a 301 redirect does not need to be connected to the language you write code in. You could perform a 301 redirect from your web server for example (in Apache you could use the htaccess file).
Anyways, I think you should redirect from your asp.net file to php and everything will work ok. You can check the link below for some code examples I have found searching on Google.

301 Redirects for Multiple Language Sites in htaccess File
Hi everyone, I have a site on a subdomain that has multiple languages set up at the domain level: https://mysite.site.com, https://mysite.site.fr , https://mysite.site.es , https://mysite.site.de , etc. We are migrating to a new subdomain and I am trying to create 301 redirects within the htaccess file, but I am a bit lost on how to do this as it seems you have to go from a relative url to an absolute - which would be fine if I was only doing this for the english site, but I'm not. It doesn't seem like I can go from absolute url to an absolute url - but I could be wrong. I am new to editing the htaccess file - so I could definitely use some advice here. Thanks.

Using a Reverse Proxy and 301 redirect to appear Sub Domain as Sub Directory - what are the SEO Risks?
We’re in process to move WordPress blog URLs from subdomains to sub-directory. We aren’t moving blog physically, but using reverse proxy and 301 redirection to do this. Blog subdomain URL is https://blog.example.com/ and destination sub-directory URL is https://www.example.com/blog/ Our main website is e-commerce marketplace which is YMYL site. This is on Windows server. Due to technical reasons, we can’t physically move our WordPress blog to the main website. Following is our Technical Setup Setup a reverse proxy at https://www.example.com/blog/ pointing to https://blog.example.com/ Use a 301 redirection from https://blog.example.com/ to https://www.example.com/blog/ with an exception if a traffic is coming from main WWW domain then it won’t redirect. Thus, we can eliminate infinite loop. Change all absolute URLs to relative URLs on blog Change the sitemap URL from https://blog.example.com/sitemap.xml to https://www.example.com/blog/sitemap.xml and update all URLs mentioned within the sitemap. SEO Risk Evaluation We have individual GA Tracking ID and individual Google Search Console Properties for main website and blog. We will not merge them. Keep them separate as they are. Keeping this in mind, I am evaluating SEO Risks factors Right now when we receive traffic from main website to blog (or vice versa) then it is considered as referral traffic and new cookies are set for Google Analytics. Is there any benefit to changing 303 redirects to 301?
A year ago I moved my marketplace website from http to https. I implemented some design changes at the same time, and saw a huge drop in traffic that we have not recovered from. I've been searching for reasons for the organic traffic decline and have noticed that the redirects from http to https URLs are 303 redirects. There's little information available about 303 redirects but most articles say they don't pass link juice. Is it worth changing them to 301 redirects now? Are there risks in making such a change a year later, and is it likely to have any benefits for rankings?

Google Is Indexing my 301 Redirects to Other sites
Long story but now i have a few links from my site 301 redirecting to youtube videos or eCommerce stores. They carry a considerable amount of traffic that i benefit from so i can't take them down, and that traffic is people from other websites, so basically i have backlinks from places that i don't own, to my redirect urls (Ex. http://example.com/redirect) My problem is that google is indexing them and doesn't let them go, i have tried blocking that url from robots.txt but google is still indexing it uncrawled, i have also tried allowing google to crawl it and adding noindex from robots.txt, i have tried removing it from GWT but it pops back again after a few days. Any ideas? Thanks!

Can an incorrect 301 redirect or .htaccess code cause 500 errors?
Google Webmaster Tools is showing the following message: _Googlebot couldn't access the contents of this URL because the server had an internal error when trying to process the request. These errors tend to be with the server itself, not with the request. _ Before I contact the person who manages the server and hosting (essentially asking if the error is on his end) is there a chance I could have created an issue with an incorrect 301 redirect or other code added to .htaccess incorrectly? 302 redirects in the sitemap?
My website uses a prefix at the end to instruct the back-end about visitor details. The setup is similar to this site - http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=sf with a 302 redirect from the normal link to the one with additional info and a canonical tag on the actual URL without the extra info ((the normal one here being http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com,) However, when I used www.xml-sitemaps.com to create a sitemap they did so using the URLs with the extra info on the links... what should I do to create a sitemap using the normal URLs (which are the ones I want to be promoting)

How to stop Google crawling after 301 redirect?
I have removed all pages from my old website and set 301 redirect to new website. But, I have verified old website with Google webmaster tools' HTML verification file which enable me to track all data and existence of pages in Google search for my old website. How To 301 Redirect .html pages
I need to redirect a page/URL that is purely .html to a new location. I don't know how to do this. All the redirects I can find are for server side code pages .php/.aspx etc. From my understanding I can't put a server side redirect in a .html file. I am hosting on a microsoft server, however the new page I am redirecting to is .php. I am running some WordPress (.php) files on the server. I need to make it redirect before the old page loads so visitors don't start reading something that is about to get redirected Can someone please help me?
