How do I track a PDF?
-
I have this eBook in PDF and I don't know how to track it:
http://www.shipoverseas.com/PDFs/how-to-buy-a-car-in-usa-and-ship-it-overseas.pdf
I ultimately want to do like SeoMoz in their Ranking Reports: Export to PDF
Anybody have a quick idea on how to do this?

What analytics tool are you using?
In Google Analytics you can use onclick function with pagetrackview to track all the link clicks (internal and external)
onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/yourfile.pdf')
You can add this line to the GA code and track one URL as well i.e onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/URL.html');
Omniture onclick syntax is as follows using s.prop (property / traffic variables)
<li onclick="geturl('http: www.yourwebsite.com'');onclick="s=s_gi('nameofyouromniturereportsuite');s.prop1='Name" of="" hte="" file="" for="" reporting';s.tl(this,'o','name="" the="" reporting')"="">Anchor Text of the file</li onclick="geturl('http:>
Coremetrics has event conversion metrics that can be used to track downloads and link clicks
cmCreateConversionEventTag ("Event ID","Action Type","Event Category ID","Points");
Event id = Name of the file
Action type = 1 for event initiation and 2 for event completion
Event category id = Name of the group / page
Points = lead scoring points

Downloads. Besides, is it possible to tack just one URL? This URL is not in my CMS. I created a file in FTP called PDFs on the root folder.

What type of tracking. Views after downloads, or just downloads / views on the website?

Google Analytics - Tracking multiple thankyou pages?
Hi Guys, I want to track email opt-ins for multiple thank you pages. The setup is as follows: http://image.prntscr.com/image/57632e05a15f42fda0b8ffec2d176460.png I have not yet built the thank you pages, so i was wondering what the URL should be to make it easy to track them in GA? I'm thinking: domain.com/thankyou-page/page1 Then using regular expression in GA to track /thankyou-page/ Would this be a good way to go about it? Cheers. f6c7r0

Is It Possible to have Cross Domain Tracking on Two Different Accounts?
Good afternoon to all, I have this kind of dilemma regarding setting up tracking code on two different accounts, namely bioglass.com with GA Code UA-12345678-1 where all the product information has been listed and shopbioglass.com with GA Code UA-87654321-1 where the prices are located and transaction takes place. Both of them are connected since if you click the buy button on bioglass.com for a specific product, it will automatically redirect to shopbioglass.com where the prices and transactions comes into place. Dilemma: I want to check how many conversion took place from bioglass.com to shopbioglass.com. I know they have different GA Code but is it possible for me to have a cross domain tracking for this?? What are the possible remedies if not? Thanks to all 🙂

301 Tracking with Google Analytics hurts SEO?
Hey guys, I have an old-domain.com and a new-domain.com. old-domain.com has reputation and through a 301 redirect it's handling it over to new-domain.com. I want to know how many people still visit old-domain.com and track this with Google Analyitcs. I read the best solution for this would be a Google Campaign URL. My question: Does a URL like "http://www.new-domain.com /?utm_source=&utm_medium=redirect&utm_campaign=" hurt the effectiveness of the 301 redirect?

Best practices to track blog.mydomain.com in Google Analytics?
What is the best practice in Google Analytics? Tracking blog.mydomain.com + mydomain.com under the same profile? Or creating separate profiles for each blog.mydomain.com and mydomain.com? Thanks!

Cover my tracks / two websites on the same Analytics
Hi, I've got 2 websites and I like one of them to make some links to the other one. These two sites are on the same Google Analytics account. They have been set up 3 month ago and they have some articles on them. I've heard that Google can see that those websites are related in my Analytics and use this information to give less power to the link I could make between them. What do think about it and what do you recommend me ? Shoud I closed the Analytics account ? Or down one of the website and rebuilt it whith a different domain / host / analytics ? The thing is if I delete one of the website i'll be force to republish the articles, because there are links on it, and they're part of a deal I've already made. Thank you

Tracking SEO tests
Trying to get some best practices on testing SEO changes. We are going to make a bunch of changes on subsets of pages. Say testing about 5 different on-page changes. Originally we were going to submit separate Sitemaps to GWT and see if our test sets get indexed, how quickly, etc. But we noticed that GWT says some pages in our Sitemaps aren't indexed even though we know they are (what gives?). So we thought, for each test, let's put a unique code on the page so we can see how many get indexed by Google. But that doesn't solve the issue: how many people clicked on our test pages. So we are thinking of putting a tracking pixel on the test pages, specific for each test. But then I am thinking, why not just create a separate Google Analytics profile and place that code on the test pages (set up goals to track visits per test since we aren't going to change the actual URLs). and on and on This is where you come in. What kind of tracking do you implement when you set up tests? Advice appreciated! E
