Cleaning Up Bad 301 External Links From Old Site
-
A relatively new site I'm working on has been hit really hard by Panda, due to over optimization of 301 external links which include exact keyword phrases, from an old site. Prior to the Panda update, all of these 301 redirects worked like a charm, but now all of these 301's from the old url are killing the new site, because all the hyper-text links include exact keyword matches. A couple weeks ago, I took the old site completely down, and removed the htaccess file, removing the 301's and in effect breaking all of these bad links. Consequently, if one were to type this old url, you'd be directed to the domain registrar, and not redirected to the new site. My hope is to eliminate most of the bad links, that are mostly on spammy sites, that aren't worth linking to. My thought is these links would eventually disappear from G.
My concern is that this might not work, because G won't re-index these links, because once they're indexed by G, they'll be there forever. My fear is causing me to conclude I should hedge my bets, and just disavow these sites using the disavow tool in WMT. IMO, the disavow tool is an action of last resort, because I don't want to call attention to myself, since this site doesn't have a manual penalty inflected on it. Any opinions or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, 301...Thank You! I'm trying to address bad 301 links being sent from the old url, to the new url.

401 is unauthorized. Do you mean a 301 redirect? If not, could you expand a little bit so we can better understand the situation? Thanks!

How to Check 301 Done Properly on Homepage
Hi All, I posted previously about this, and had some good advice (thanks!)... but not quite sure my problem has been fixed. About a month ago we changed our hosting over, and our dev didn't coordinate to have both versions of our homepage redirected to the same URL. Our crawl showed up with every single page as duplicate content, and our organic traffic has since dropped by over 60%. They have told me that it is fixed as of last Monday, and a redundant error that was appearing in my Google Analytics now says that it has been fixed, but Moz crawled my site 2 days ago and still says everything is duplicate content, and my organic traffic is stressing me out! Any advice on how I can check this is done for myself, rather than trusting these guys haven't messed it up any further? Or is it possible the Moz crawl is a bit slower? Thanks in advance.

Links don't add up
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm new to seomoz. I've run an analysis for one of my pages and it's showing 624 total links - 118 internal and 6 external. Why doesn't the sum of the internal and external links equal the total links?

Compare link metrics - What time frame is this in?
Hi, I'm comparing three sites and one of them I know is quite popular however a few of the social statistics are puzzling me; they've got a small amount of Facebook likes and times shared on twitter - Which just can't be right if it's all time. What's the time frame of this data? The last three months or? Thanks, Dan

Competitive analysis of inbound links
I am trying to figure out how to best use SeoMoz tools to do some competitive analysis of inbound links. With the site explorer tool I can "compare Link Metrics" I see that a competitor is beating me on External Followed Links and Total Linking Root domains. I want to dig further into this data and see how these are distributed. What I am really after is which root domains are sending them the most links. Knowing that 20k of their links are coming from 5 specific root urls would be great to know. Is there anywhere that I can see this data. Ideal column headers would be: Linking Root Domain of Followed Links (from this root domain) Linking Domain Authority The ability to drill down from there into specific links would be mind blowing. Is there any way to browse this type of data in SeoMoz?

Which Moz Rank and I'm seeing External or both external and internal?
I found this on the MOZ site. It confused me. "Whereas MozRank measures the link juice (ranking power) of both internal and external links, external MozRank measures only the amount of mozRank flowing through external links (links located on a separate domain). Because external links can play an important role as independent endorsements, external mozRank is an important metric for predicting search engine rankings." In the tool bar and other places in Moz am I seeing the combo Internal or the External and how do I get to each? Maybe I'm just reading this wrong. 🙂

4XX links in SEOmoz
My campaign is showing me that I have 7 4XX errors. Is there anyway to see where these pages are linked from in order to remove the links?

HUGE LINK!PR9 Not showing up
Hi ,My site is ranking very well.Although lacking large numbers of links ,Im only able to grasp the bottom page of First Page, Im in the position #6 through Position #10 with approximately 44 keywords. Its been about a year now so i think im doing well .. ** Here is my problem,** I recently was able to pick up a few very good High ranking backlinks ,They are in the Range of pr8 & 9 they have huge amounts of links pointing to them,One of them is a Dot Edu back link..Niether one of these are showing up..In fact , In the open site explorer i had a couple very high domain rank backlinks showing as my top link. This been there for 7 months They are gone...Now i have these 2 new backlinks both pr8 and pr9 not showing up in the top of the list..They are both cached .I can see them in the cached links .. ** But where the heck is my new links ??? been about 1-2 months ..shoudnt these show up in the top of open site exploreer?? Very aggrevating...Could this be open site explorer reading the site differently month after month??**

Open Site Explorer Question- Link Value?
One of my backlinks is from a site that has a page authority of 74. However, the domain is a domain I purchased and 302'd to my current main domain. What I'm wondering (without getting into why a 301 is better than a 302) is this: does OSE have any tool that shows if there is actually value in a link? My assumption is that despite this domain having a PA of 74, the 302 is not passing over any value. To be clear, I understand that a 302 doesn't pass over any SEO value, but my question is whether or not OSE shows the value of a link? Thanks!
