If your analytics show you something like this, what is your next strategy?
-
What is your thought if your site's analytic is showing you something like that graph? is it "DAMN!!! it is not supposed to be like that, the X are supposed to be greater then Y by at least two or three" And what is your next strategy? is it "okay, i need to put on backburner for my link building kungfu now immidiately...." Please share your thought.. because i dont know if i should be happy or not looking at something like this showing up on my analytics... Please do share your opinion GoodBad.png

I feel that your graphs look OK. The trend is nice, there is traffic and its coming from a variety of sources. I would gleen a bit more from the stats if I knew a bit more about your business and a relative timeline for which the data has been compiled. I would not worry..........
-
Seriously. That is pretty amazing. It looks like you have really captured your audience.
-
The downside to a high search percentage is that if the algo changes and the change isn't in your favor, you don't have anything to fall back on. The traffic sources for my model warship combat site are similar to yours Yumi -- about an equal mix of direct, referral, and search engines. It's a comfort to know that if something drastic changed with the search engines, I still have my referral and direct traffic.
-
Thanks! But I personally wouldn't pay too much attention to where the percentages lay. I would mostly be concerned about whether the numbers keep increasing in each category.
When I looked at your percentages, my first thought was, "Man! I wish I could get as much direct traffic as she does!" My thought was that if I am only getting 5% direct hits then my brand is not recognizable.
I just looked at my stats for direct visits over the last year and I can see that the general trend is upwards. So, whether it's 5% or 50%, as long as it is going up then I am happy.
-
WOW, that is one extremely SEO site you have there.... that is very nice , i wish that my site would have that kind of Search Percentage :((
still a lot to learn it seems... i am brb , i have to movie marathon the whole Pro Video for sure , there must be something that i am lacking as to why it caused my search : referral : direct = 1 : 1 : 1
PS : Thanks for the comment on the site, that is one of the way i used to get more traffic and back link (doing competition on thefwa.com , dopeawards.com , etc ) , and if i may say so those sources are currently my only high authority backlink source... this week i am going into article mode on some high authority site, such as the seomoz.org ( i am planning to post some extremely interesting article that shares some of the top secret of my own company to the public ), and posting a tutorial to activetuts.com .... if you have any other Great back link source, i am all ear xD
Thanks

I have a large site that gets most of its traffic from search - about 60%.
Articles and other static content on the site get about 90% of their traffic from search.
However, a blog on the site gets almost all of its traffic from daily RSS and email distribution by Feedburner along with a lot of direct traffic. There is also a lot of direct traffic to the homepage that clicks into the blog.
So, different parts of the site attract traffic from different audiences and I believe that both of them are successful.
-
I don't have answers for you, but I wanted to tell you how much I love the design of your site! Very cool.
My site's distribution is:
86% from search
8% from referring sites
5.5% from direct
But, every site is going to be different. Mine is mostly an information site and I have thousands of pages, so it makes sense that I am going to have more visits from search.
-
It depends on the site having the link and how deep the link is on the site. The more popular, the quicker the crawl rate and deep the crawl.
-
oh one more thing... the SEARCH Traffic?
i think i have explanation for it... like today why with the traffic spike? because i have just implemented my new learnt technique on creating a good adwords (which keyword all range around quality 7 ~ 10) ... and it paid off (although i paid a lot of money for it ~25$ / day) ... damn it means.. the traffic that comes from search engine is almost non existance...x_x
sigh... it is because i need to wait a lil bit more for the advantages of those backlinks to be useful? or what? (how long does google usually take a backlink into account? 2 weeks?) , because its just been 10 days since i seo-ed the hell out of this site
-
Bounce rate is really nice as is the time on site!!
-
Okay since everyone is asking for more data, here is the complete snapshot on my dashboard
please tell me what is bad from it, and what is good.. i need to improve my knowledge on this stuff
thanks a lot for your time

Because i am quite new with this, i dont know if i should be happy about those diversity source... I thought if my SEO was better, i could have easily gotten a lot higher Search Traffic (but it seems that my seo is lacking enough?)
I was wondering if there is any good guide how that traffic source be like? is it like Search : referrence : direct = 2 : 1 : 1? or is it 2 : 2 : 1?
The site in question is my company site http://ikt.co.id
EGOL, how about if we compare with the site you ussualy have? how is your percentage traffic source look like?
again i dont know if i should be happy about anything, because i am quite new... but if my hunch was right, those 1:1:1 on traffic source shows that my SEO is lacking?
-
I like the referrals and SE traffic, but I would ask what is the direct traffic? Seems to be quite of lot that have you memorized or bookmarked. If there is a good reason, such as this is a new site, then great. However, if this is a online retailer, my next step would be to look at those people who already know my URL and what are they doing, and is that what I want then to do, and if not why.
I might also look into the V dip to see what I did, or if this was just a Google hiccup spanning just a day or so in reporting.
I would also check the referrals to see what they are doing and if the referring link is not doing what I intended, then why. What were they looking for from the referring site that they did not find on this site? Was the bounce rate high or did they look over several pages and spend a good amount of time on the site.
There are a few other questions that could be extrapolated from this, but a broader look at what this graph was reporting on would be needed.
I hope that helps.

Really need more info! Good trending though!
-
At first glance it looks great! But really hard to say without knowing your history further. Overall you have a very balanced traffic set with a 1/3rd split between all your traffic sources. it looks like you are climbing so I would continue to monitor positive or negative effects of link building. Direct traffic at a 3rd of traffic is very impressive and could denote a good following and good branding.
But really this is hard to diagnose without further info. How long does your search traffic stay on the site? What is the bounce rate of your referral sites?
-
What concerns you about the graphs?
I see rising traffic which is good. I also see a site that is getting traffic from a diversity of sources. I like that.
I cant' give any more detailed comments because I don't know anything about the site or about the pattern of the traffic.

Client would like to 301 redirect the homepage to a category page
Hello MOZ Community!!! I would like your expert opinions on a scenario, please! My client is an ecommerce company, and currently has one of its category pages outranking its homepage for a few key phrases. The homepage, however, has a better conversion rate. So, the client is asking that we make the homepage the category URL, so http://www.theirsite.com/blue-clothes. The existing homepage URL - http://www.theirsite.com - would 301 REDIRECT to the category page - which would render the current version of the homepage. Therefore, there would be nothing, ZERO content, on the MAIN URL: http://www.theirsite.com Has anyone ever done this before? What are the pros and the cons of this practice? Here is my same client, for reference: https://moz.com/community/q/issue-with-category-ranking-on-page-1-vs-homepage-ranking-on-page-2

"No index" page still shows in search results and paginated pages shows page 2 in results
I have "no index, follow" on some pages, which I set 2 weeks ago. Today I see one of these pages showing in Google Search Results. I am using rel=next prev on pages, yet Page 2 of a string of pages showed up in results before Page 1. What could be the issue?

Hi Mozzers, Context: I am working with a plumbing company that is located in NC and covers 6 locations( 1 address + 5 target cities). His services are: PLUMBING EMERGENCY PLUMBING WATER TREATMENT WATER HEATER INSTALLATION WATER HEATER REPAIR TANKLESS WATER HEATERS SEWER AND DRAIN CLEANING REPIPING GARBAGE DISPOSALS GENERAL PLUMBING Since I am including 2 to 3 extra areas offering all these services above, should I include a subnavigation which will create a localized microsite within the site itself for these extra locations or not? SEO Audit Strategy For A Complex Website?
I am looking for a list of SEO audit tools and strategies for a complex website. The things I am looking for include (but not limited to): finding all the subdomains of the website listing all the 301's, 302's, 404's, etc finding current canonical tags suggesting canonical tags for certain links listing / finding all current rel=nofollow's on the website listing internal links which use & don't use 'www.' finding duplicate content on additional domains owned by this website I know how to find some of the items above, but not sure if my methods are optimal and/or the most accurate. Thank you in advance for your input!

Sub domain will not index - Next plan of action?
I'm not sure exactly what option i should take next. but i'll run you through a few points: The page is optimized to a rank "A" The page has 350 backlinks* a strong social presence Interlinking pages. High domain authority an OK page authority The domain ranks highly Every other sub domain rank highly. I make a search and the first page that ranks for this domain is a product page within the exact sub domain i'm trying to rank for, followed by some external blogs I've written and then the rest of the product pages. I've submitted the URL to web master tools twice and yet it still will not rank for that keyword. The only time i see the page index is if i copy the exact URL into Google. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is is better to write something on Squidoo or do a guest post?
I've got a blog that has a good follower count, moz score, twitter fan base and PR offer to let me do a guest post, as long as the approve it. Is it better to do that vs. a Lens on Squidoo? I'm thinking the blog post would be best but Squidoo has huge domain authority. Would that get the content out there more and hopefully get others to link to it? And yes I know I should be writing something for both. I probably will but let's just pretend I'm not going to. I'm like everyone else, too little time and too much to do.
