Php 301 redirect
-
Hi
I am migrating an old wordpress site to a custom PHP site and the URL profiles will be different, so want to retain all link profiles and more importantly if a user visits the old urls via search then they are seamlessly transferred to the new equivalent page
For example
www.domain.com/about-us is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/aboutus.php
www.domain.com/furniture is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/furniture-collections.php
etc
What is the best way of achieving this apart from .htaccess as not 100% confident of doing this. Could it be done via PHP or using meta tags?
-
Hi, Not meta tags. If no other way, You should do it with PHP header() function.
<code>header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently"); header("Location: /somelocation");</code>
But you need to add some conditions to determine if the page should be redirected. For example to redirect /example.html to https://www.new-domain.com/example you need to write something like:
if (isset($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']) && parse_url($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], PHP_URL_PATH) == '/example.html')
{header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently');header('Location: https://www.new-domain.com/example');exit();}
It can be a lot of code, if you need to redirect many pages. In this case, You can try to use PHP 301 Redirect Generator - https://www.301-redirect.online/php-header-location-generator

OK - take this page: www.domain.com/about-us
Presuming that this is a php page, open it up in an editor and insert this code right at the top
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
Header( "Location: http://www.domain.com/aboutus.php" );
?>and repeat this same procedure for any other files you need to redirect.

Hi
Thanks for the link, it mentions under php
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
Header( "Location: http://www.new-url.com" );
?>So how would I implement multiple page changes in the code above i.e.
www.domain.com/about-us is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/aboutus.php
www.domain.com/furniture is going to need to redirect to www.domain.com/furniture-collections.php -
There are various ways of doing this and yes the good ol htaccess can be a bit daunting at first.
Check this page out, should help you.
http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.phpYou cannot do a 301 redirect with meta tags - a meta tag "refresh" does not provide a 301 redirect.
Useful hint: Before commiting to it, try using the same script either in PHP or HTACCESS but with a 302 (temporary redirect) - then test it works and then make it a 301 (permanent redirect) - that way if you get it wrong, Google will not take the permanent instruction.

Tough 301 redirect with a /www in it
Hi Mozzers, I'm using Eggplants 301 redirect via wordpress and for some reason I can't redirect one url. The example of it is below: www.website.com/news/www.website.com As you can see, it looks like there's 2 url's and this plugin doesn't do the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe via .htaccess? Thank you!

Website Redirection Issue
Hi All, Like to know is there any better way to do 301 redirection. My Client whose website name is Online Plants created with OpenCart. Over the period of time he added nearly 10,000's of products and now he is cleaning them ( by grouping similar attribute under one products) which is right way to do. For example , Product A with different size ( X,XL,XXL ) previously had 3 product entry ( A - X, A - XL, A - XXL ) , now he is moving all of them under one. So while moving he is deleting the other two entry. Now whats the best way to inform google . Putting a manual 301 redirection for each and every product is impossible as there are more products. Whats the best way to go ahead on this.

Tracking URLS and Redirects
We have a client with many archived newsletters links that contain tracking code at the end of the URL. These old URLs are pointing to pages that don't exist anymore. Is there a way to set up permanent redirects for these old URLs with tracking code? We have tried and it doesn't seem to work. Thank you!

301 redirect a old site that has been "dead" for a while?
Hi guys, A quick question. I have a client who has an old business website that had some great links (Forbes.com, CocaCola.com, etc). The problem is that he knew nothing about SEO and let the hosting expire. He still owns the domain, but the site is no longer listed in Google. He did no SEO, so I am not worried about being hit by any artificial anchor text penalties, since the links are as natural as it gets. So my questions is, would there be any benefit from 301 redirecting that site to his new business? The new business is in almost exactly the same niche as the old site. I am thinking of 301'ing to a sub-page which will refer to his past venture with the old business, not to the homepage of the new site. Thanks in advance for your help.

Login redirect 302
Ok - anyone knows what to do with the temporary redirect to the login page? In our e-commerce system we have a checkout page, which requires user to be logged in - if they are not, we redirect them to the login page using simple php header("Locaiton: url"). This however has been found as a Warning as it's a temporary redirect. I can't really put there permanent redirect for obvious reasons so if someone could give me some clue on this situation that would be much appreciated.

301 Redirect for 2500 pages
Hi, We have an existing site done in DNN and we recreated it on a new platform (EPiServer) and now we're going live. However, there are 2500+ page URLs from the old site which is not exisitng on the new site. What do you reckon is the best way we can address this? Do we create a 301 redirect individually for each of these pages? These 2500+ pages have a domain authority 34-35 and I think it's best that we retain those. We'll be using the same domain name. Suggestions for ways to approach this issue would be greatly appreciated. I have access to the server and IIS. *Also, how do I create a virtual page in IIS? and redirect it to another URL within the site? Thanks.
