Changing menus regularly - will this impact SEO
-
We are working on an internal project, where the website owner is thinking of making regular changes to one or two items on the top level menu. Assuming they redirect the original pages or navigate to them in other ways, is there any other impact on SEO to changing the menu structure? I assume they'd submit new sitemaps after each change.
Many thanks
Fiona

That depends on how often users come to the site. If 90% of visitors are new the UX issue doesn't exist. If 5% are then you'll soon get feedback as to whether it is driving them nuts or not

Your welcome, good luck with the project

Thanks - that's really helpful. Yes, I did point out that the UX is going to be a major issue as the users will feel like they are walking on shifting sands... I think we are hoping to push the "What's hot" idea, as you suggest.
Thanks again

Hmmmm, I think it could slightly affect the internal linking structure and possible mean the loss of important pages being linked together.
However my main concern would be to regular users from a UX perspective. You are clearly going to be making people work a lot harder to find regular content that is possbly the bread and butter traffic for the site. Rather than changing the menu, would it not be better to implement a "New Item" in the menu structure rather than changing it all. Or have a feature banner.
Hope this helps a little.

Pages Indexed Not Changing
I have several sites that I do SEO for that are having a common problem. I have submitted xml sitemaps to Google for each site, and as new pages are added to the site, they are added to the xml sitemap. To make sure new pages are being indexed, I check the number of pages that have been indexed vs. the number of pages submitted by the xml sitemap every week. For weeks now, the number of pages submitted has increased, but the number of pages actually indexed has not changed. I have done searches on Google for the new pages and they are always added to the index, but the number of indexed pages is still not changing. My initial thought was as new pages are added to the index, old ones are being dropped. But I can't find evidence of that, or understand why that would be the case. Any ideas on why this is happening? Or am I worrying about something that I shouldn't even be concerned with since new pages are being indexed?

Should I change or redirect this URL?
Happy Friday everyone! I just noticed that one of our Attorney Profile's url's is wrong. We used to have someone named "Dana Fortugno" as our Family Law attorney, but when he left, (over two years ago) we hired "Scott Finelli." The person who setup the site, just changed the information on the page not url. So instead of it saying "http://www.kempruge.com/scott-finelli-jd-llm/;" it says "http://www.kempruge.com/dana-fortugno-jd-llm/." I'm considering taking all the content on the page with the wrong url, copying it to a new page with the correct URL and 301 redirecting (what would now be a blank page) to the new page with the correct URL. Is this the best way to handle this? Also, I don't believe there are many SEO concerns regarding the pages specifically. The profile pages aren't what we rank for in any of our Family Law related keywords. I am worried about having a completely blank page that just 301 redirects as looking bad to google, but not sure if it would? As always, thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide. Will combining multiple websites/brands into one Wordpress Multisite Installation hurt SEO?
My company currently operates four websites, independently of each other, a corporate website and three separate store brands. innovativemattresssolutions.com - corporate website mattressking.net sleepoutfitters.com mattresswarehouse.com All of our stores have the same branding, same TV spots, same print ads, etc across the company, we just swap out logos on all marketing pieces. It is proving nearly impossible for us to maintain four separate websites, currently on three different platforms. all four are hosted separately as of now. We would like to combine all four websites to one Wordpress Multisite installation so we can manage the pages from one place, using the same theme and even content in many places because all brands share the same info, policies, products, etc. We would set up wordpress multi using subfolders for installation and point the URL directly to resolve to the appropriate subfolder. The only site that would crosslink to the others would be the corporate website. Is this a bad idea for SEO? What other options would we have? Should we keep the corporate site on its own installation, but put the other three brands on a multisite install? Would duplicating content on the three brand pages be an issue? Less of an issue if they were not on multisite? Any insight is much appreciated.
