.htaccess yikes!

Hi guys,
Having a bit of trouble getting a htaccess redirect working. It's very easy but I am making a small typo somewhere!
I want to redirect about 400 product pages located at;
http://domain.com/product/product-name
to
http://domain.com/product-name
..basically just dropping /product/
Any help would be appreciated as my errors in Moz are all over the place!

mod_rewrite and RedirectMatch are two different ways of doing a 301 redirect - both are fine. You can have both inside a htaccess file, however you may want to place the RedirectMatch directive outside of the call for the mod_rewrite module so after

Thanks for this, appears to work fine!
Is it ok sitting at the end?
BEGIN WordPress
<ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
RedirectMatch 301 ^/product/(.*)$ http://cdkeyprices.com/$1</ifmodule>END WordPress
#php_flag display_startup_errors on
#php_flag display_errors on
#php_flag html_errors on
#php_value docref_root 0
#php_value docref_ext 0 -
You could use the following RedirectMatch directive in your htaccess file obviously swapping in your actual domain -
RedirectMatch 301 ^/product/(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1
-
I'm sure you don't want to rewrite all the pages 1 at a time, try the following to rewrite the entire folder.
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.)product
RewriteRule ^(.)$ product/$1 [L] -
Hello MrPenguin,
Your code should look similar to this:
Redirect 301 /product/product-name http://domain.com/product-name

Why are my URL's with a trailing slash still getting indexed even though they are redirected in the .htaccess file?
My .htaccess file is set up to redirect a URL with a trailing / to the URL without the /. However, my SEOmoz crawl diagnostics report is showing both URL's. I took a look at my Google Webmaster account and saw some duplicate META title issues. Same thing, Google Webmaster is showing the URL with the trailing /. My website was live for about 3 days before I added the code to the .htaccess file to remove the trailing /. Is it possible that in those 3 days that both versions were indexed and haven't been removed even though the .htaccess file has been updated?

Help needed please with 301 redirects in htaccess file.
In summary, we're currently having issues with our htaccess file. 301 redirects are going through to the new described URL but in addition the new URL is followed by a ? and the old URL. How can we get rid of the ? and previous URL so they don't appear as an ending. None of the examples we've found re this issue online appear to work. Can anyone please offer some advice? Can we use a RewriteRule to stop this happening? Here's a summary of the htaccess file REDIRECT CODE BEGINS HERE LONG LIST OF REDIRECTS, which appear to be set up perfectly fine. Converting files from .html to .php or editing .htaccess file
Good day all, I have a bunch of files that are .html and I want to add some .php to them. It seems my 2 options are Convert .html to .php and 301 redirect or add this line of code to my .htaccess file and keep all files that are .html as .html AddType application/x-httpd-php .html My gut is that the 2nd way is better so as not alter any SEO rankings, but wanted to see if anybody had any experience with this line of code in their .htaccess file as definitely don't wan to mess up my entire site 🙂 Thanks for any help! John

Non-www to www code not working in htaccess
I use the same rewrite code on every site to consolidate the non-www and www versions. All sites in Joomla, linux hosting. Code is as follows: RewriteEngine On rewritecond %{http_host} ^site.com/ rewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.site.com/$1 [R=301,L] Immediately following this code, I also rewrite /index.php to /. Thing is, I can get index.php to rewrite correctly but the non-www won't rewrite to www. I use the same code on every site but for some reason it's not working here. Are there common issues that interfere with rewriting a non-www to www in htaccess that could be interfering with the code I'm using above?
