New e-commerce launched, drop in traffic

One of our clients launched a new e-commerce site and there was a significant (60%) drop in traffic in Google Analytics following the launch. We are about 10 days into the new site, and our suspicion is that the move has caused a decrease in their site authority which has lowered their search position.
The old site had the store at sitename.com/store. The new site has a Shopify store at shop.sitename.com. There were very few external followed links to the store pages, so we thought that there would be little effect for overall site traffic by moving the store to a subdomain.
Any recommendations for next steps on diagnosing the problem and working towards a solution?

Hey,
It's easy peasy. Here is what u need to do:
1. confirm your site sitename.com/ with google webmaster tools.
2. check the craxl errors section after 3-5 days. you will find lots of 404 errors under the /store/ directory.
3. Make the right fixes to those 404 errors (most will have to be redirected 301 to the new location urls under the new subdomain shop.sitename.com ).

My first thought is that redirects were not done properly. Check the wayback machine or Google Cache and check some of the old links and see if they redirect. Also if there were any previous versions of the website (before the most recent,) then make sure those are redirected as well.

IMO, this new site structure is the cause of what you are experiencing for SURE! Any way of reaching out to the sites that are linking to the old URL and have them update those links to the newly structured URL? This will help with the DA/PA drop and possibly help with the rankings.
Using OSE, I would run the site and go to the "Linking Domains" tab and start creating a list of the sites that are linking to the old url structure. Then reach out to them and ask if they will update. This would be my initial plan of action.

For some pre-reading, Groupon experimented with deindexing part of their site back in 2014 and found that they had a big drop in direct traffic: http://searchengineland.com/60-direct-traffic-actually-seo-195415 Recently I've conducted a similar test on a very large site and have found that Direct dropped somewhere between 50-80% for the pages deindexed, depending on the day (It has been running for ~4 days). Has anyone else tried this experiment before? If so what were your results?

What I'm most interested in now is to find out why this traffic is classed as Direct - there appears to be no reason why the site or server would interfere, so I can only imagine that Google is sending traffic without referrer data. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why they would do that?0 -
Trying to locate the e commerce tracking code on shopify?
Hi everyone, I am doing a google analytics site audit for an e commerce site using shopify. I can see e commerce data on GA but I'd like to make sure that e commerce tracking code is present and correct. I have the shopify thank you page checkout.shopify.com/example1234556 but cannot locate the client's e commerce tracking code http://cl.ly/191F0Z460p1L. I guess this is normal since we are on the shopify domain. Is this normal to not have the client e commerce tracking code present on shopify thank you page? Does shopify have a system in place that integrates and or generate this e commerce tracking code for the client? Finally, how can I verify if the ga e commerce tracking code on shopify is correct and in place? Thanks for letting me know!

Is there an automated way to determine which pages of your website are getting 0 traffic?
I'm doing a content audit on my company website and want to identify pages with zero traffic. I can use GA for low traffic, but not zero traffic. I can do this manually, but it would take a long time. Are there any tools to help me determine these pages?

Google referral traffic drop around 14th July 2014 (UK). Anyone else seeing it?
We've seen around a 25% drop in Google referral traffic from the 14th July 2014 onwards and having real trouble identifying why and from what search terms we're being effected. WMT and Moz Pro don't show any movement. Is anyone else seeing the same thing on UK search terms? Seems a bit late to be the effect of Panda 4.0? Any help would be amazing. Thanks.

Finding an Explanation for a Massive Spike in Organic Search Traffic
Hi, I watch analytics on a website (for a friend's business) that is reasonably stagnant, which just experienced a massive spike in search traffic for no explainable reason. The organic search engine traffic had always been steady, but about two months ago, organic search traffic started rising slowly. I checked OSE & a few other tools, but couldn't find any massive source of gained links or other explanations - just the usual occasional blog post about the company. I got in touch with my friend to see if maybe they'd gone with a competitor or something else, but he also had no idea (and even if he wasn't being honest with me, we still should've been able to spot links or social metrics or something!) Then, yesterday, their organic search traffic just tripled. The crazy thing is, it's not from one keyword: Every search term, and (not provided) essentially went up 200-400%. And I have no freaking idea why. No large gain of links. No website editing. The only possible explanation I thought up is maybe one of their competitors got knocked out, but I doubt that would cause such a stratospheric rise. So figured I'd turn to y'all. Any ideas on what might be causing such wonderful results? Anyone have any good tips on figuring out why a website could all of a sudden be doing incredibly? A switch from Search to Direct traffic from Feb 2012
I have read about the Google algorithm updates galore in 2012. I would therefore be inclined to suspect a sudden sharp drop in Search traffic this year to be caused by such updates. However, I am seeing what appears to be a direct switch from 'Search' to 'Direct' traffic as of about February 16th this year. There are no specific brand-building exercises or general advertising campaigns happening around this time for the site in question. It seems very UN-explainable?
