Alt image tags , shoud i reupload my site images as i never optimized right first time?
-
Hi guys i own a photographic website. www.hemeravisuals.co.uk
And when I created it , i wasn't aware of the world of SEO , alt tags and labelling your images etc...
Would it be wise to reupload my sites images (100 in total) as I cannot rename the files on my wordpress site but it does allow me to add alt text , captions etc?Or just add the data i can to the images allready on the site?Would it be worthwhile in terms of search and pagerank?

I have deleted to old images and uploaded versions with optimized files names alts tags etc also done all my page seo too
-
Yes, this is okay if the URLs for the images themselves don't have significant inbound links. (Just let them 404.) For any images that, do, however, have significant inbound links, I would 301 redirect the URL for the old image to the URL for the new image. (Notice I am saying image not page. Keep the URL for the page the image is embedded on the same.)

is it ok to just delete and replace the images and put them back on the same pages on my site (only begun the seo optimsing process this week) ?
-
I have only begun optimzing my page for SEO this week, so I am just in the process of deleting my images are reuploading them to the same pages they were on before thanks again

I agree with Jarno, given the nature of your site. I'd also strongly suggest 301 redirecting any of the old URLs that have inbound links and/or are receiving organic search traffic to the new ones that will be created when you rename the images. (There are several Wordpress plugins that can make this easier on you.) If the images don't have any inbound links or traffic, you can simply let them 404. Best of luck!

Hi there,
i would defiantly do it. Both rename the files and give good alts just like suggested above. But there is another very good reason to do so. Since 2007 when I started with some of my websites I always used logical names for images and descriptive alt tags and this turned out to send me quite a lot of traffic actually. Don't think of 100,000 visitors per year but using analytics I've seen years with about 7500 to 15000 visitors per year through image search by Google.
Also, these people also opted in for our newsletter, viewed a lot of pages etc. etc. So yes. I would use logical names and alt tags and invest the time in it.
Regards
Jarno

However you can go about doing it, I would highly suggest it. Search engines can't see images so the alt tags and the file name tell them what the content/purpose is.
This is especially important for you if the majority of your content is photographic in nature. If your site wasn't a photography site and not so image heavy I would say just changing the alt tags would be enough. I realize it's a pain and time consuming to rename and reupload your files to WordPress, but I think it's worth it.
Hope that helps!

Hi, you don't need to upload the images again, you can add the alt tag, and if needed, other data to the code.

Why is my landing page title tag being applied to the entire site?
I have a unique title tag for every page on my site but depending on what page a user lands on, that title becomes the title tag for the entire site. For example, if you come in from SERPs via the "Zach King: My Magical Life" page, the title "Zach King: My Magical Life" title will be applied to every page on the site even though they have unique title tags. This is the site: https://www.shelfstuff.com/book-shelf. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Long Title Tags
Hi guys, We have product e-commerce title tags which are over 60 characters - around 80 plus. The reason we added them in there is to incorporate

more information for Google. The format of these title tags are: Name + Colour + Rug Type + Origin Name = for people searching for the name of the rug
Color = people searching for a specific color
Type = The type of rug (e.g. normal or designer)
Origin = Where the rug is for. So this title will cover people searching for: People searching for designer rugs, the specific colour and also where it comes from. This then results in the title tag going way over 60 characters - around 80-90 characters. -- Would it be wise to try and shrink it down to under 60 characters, and what would be a good approach to do this? Is this over optimization??
I have blog website – packforcity.com, all articles were having almost same title tags (as need of the website) I only change the city name for example What to Wear in Miami in February What To Wear In Dubai In February What To Wear In Budapest In February What to Wear in Beijing in February What to Wear in Los Angeles in January What to Wear in Miami in January What to Wear in Las Vegas in January Is this over optimization?? Before December, My all keywords were ranked on the first page and my old articles still ranked, but my January and February articles (newly posted articles) were ranked No where in Google. Has my website hit by google?

Facebook page optimization
I'm working with a client who is "under attack" by one unhappy customer. That customer created a Facebook page to share her outrage, and her page is outranking my client's (consistently immediately above his FB page). I've checked all of the obvious things... page name page URL About section, and all business-related data He has MANY more "Likes" than she does, makes posts far more frequently (with much better Engagement), references his company name in almost every Post (as she does), and on and on. My main question is this... are there one or two factors that seem to have the most impact on how a given FB page ranks? Thanks for your help, Moz family! 🙂

Our quilting site was hit by Panda/Penguin...should we start a second "traffic" site?
I built a website for my wife who is a quilter called LearnHowToMakeQuilts.com. However, it has been hit by Panda or Penguin (I’m not quite sure) and am scared to tell her to go ahead and keep building the site up. She really wants to post on her blog on Learnhowtomakequilts.com, but I’m afraid it will be in vain for Google’s search engine. Yahoo and Bing still rank well. I don’t want her to produce good content that will never rank well if the whole site is penalized in some way. I’ve overly optimized in linking strongly to the keywords “how to make a quilt” for our main keyword, mainly to the home page and I think that is one of the main reasons we are incurring some kind of penalty. First main question: From looking at the attached Google Analytics image, does anyone know if it was Panda or Penguin that we were “hit” by? And, what can be done about it? (We originally wanted to build a nice content website, but were lured in by a get rich quick personality to rather make a “squeeze page” for the Home page and force all your people through that page to get to the really good content. Thus, our avenge time on site per person is terrible and Pages per Visit is low at: 1.2. We really want to try to improve it some day. She has a local business website, Customcarequilts.com that did not get hit. Second question: Should we start a second site rather than invest the time in trying to repair the damage from my bad link building and article marketing? We do need to keep the site up and running because it has her online quilting course for beginner quilters to learn how to quilt their first quilt. We host the videos through Amazon S3 and were selling at least one course every other day. But now that the Google drop has hit, we are lucky to sell one quilting course per month. So, if we start a second site we can use that to build as a big content site that we can use to introduce people to learnhowtomakequilts.com that has Martha’s quilting course. So, should we go ahead and start a new fresh site rather than to repair the damage done by my bad over optimizing? (We’ve already picked out a great website name that would work really well with her personal facebook page.) Or, here’s a second option, which is to use her local business website: customcarequilts.com. She created it in 2003 and has had it ever since. It is only PR 1. Would this be an option? Anyway I’m looking for guidance on whether we should pursue repairing the damage and whether we should start a second fresh site or use an existing site to create new content (for getting new quilters to eventually purchase her course). Tags, categories or both?
There is so much debate regarding duplicate content, horror stories, losing visitors, being penalized, yada yada... that I am wandering if it's wise to use tags/categories on a WordPress blog. I saw that all major blogs are using these structuring etiquettes and they are all dofollow and meta robots on index, follow. What do you say? It is wise to use tags, categories or both? Should I nofollow them, noindex or follow and index? Or noindex follow? Cheers and thx.

My site has multiple H1's, one in the logo image and one as a header. Is there any official stance from the search engines on this?
In doing some research on this issue, I came across this blog post which seems to suggest it certainly will be a trigger to search engines. http://www.seounique.com/blog/multiple-h1-tags-triggers-google-penalty/ Could be a false positive on his specific case, but I was wondering what the community thought. Thanks in advance!

Building a mobile site.
We are building a mobile site that will be launching in another month. I’m concerned that the mobile site will start catabolizing our traditional rankings. Is there a way to keep this from happening? Should we utilize the cross domain canonical tag and point back to the traditional site URLs?
